After playing around with a lot of different builds on different classes. It has come to my attention that toughness is one of the main issues with pvp balance. It scales to well compared to power. You are pretty much better off using pvt gear over zerker on just about any class to deal dmg. Using zerker makes you very squishy and doesn’t give you that much more dmg then pvt gear.

This is probably one of the main reasons conditions is the meta right now. You only need condi dmg to put out a lot of dmg. There is no stat that directly counters condi dmg like toughness does raw dmg. So you can get your dmg out put in condi dmg and two defensive stats like dire gear. Or you can get condi dmg and take precision for more on crit condi dmg and a defensive stat.

Vitality directly counters condition damage as well. So does Healing Power.

It scales so well compared to power? Then you see threads like:

OMG I got backstabbed for 12k with 3k armor, OMG nerf Ele insta burst cause I died in 2 seconds but I have 3k armor

Toughness works well with vitality thats why its good its also good with healing power. On it’s own it isn’t that great if you don’t have any vitality and or healing power to help it.

If it was all about toughness eles would run with 10k health 3k armor and 300+ healing power but they don’t for a reason.

Not many people are running 1 gear all on it’s own. Also if this was a simulation PVT vs Zerker the PVT should win if they just auto attack each other.

You don’t run full pvt unless your trying to tank or troll just like you don’t go full clerics unless your trying to tank or troll. Most people mix and match.

Zerker gives you much more damage then PVT gear and it becomes much more visible when you come across someone else with sustain and build more towards a tanky build. A full zerker thief is scarier then a full pvt thief that you can ignore there is a reason why.

And vitality and healing power dont do anything against power builds? Interesting.

Every time i tell someone i know about this game that toughness doesnt affect condi damage they just laugh and ask me if im serious or not.

Of course they work against power builds. I never claimed they didn’t.

Here’s a question: if not conditions, then what is the weakness of high toughness? If Conditions were reduced by Toughness, then wouldn’t Knight’s just be the best gearset in the game for PvP?

Actually if you look at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage you see that power and armor essentally negate each other. So saying that power scales worse than thoughness is wrong, well atleast if the formular is correct…

OP just give anet enough time to give each class their own condition immunity and then everything should be dandy.

Thats kinda like saying using your heal counters raw dmg. For those that claim zerker gives you so much more dmg then pvt in spvp which class are you talking about besides thief and or maybe mesmer. All other classes really just dont dish out much more dmg with zerker gear and become way squishier. Even a thief can just trait for 100% crit chance from stealth and still hit hard with pvt gear.

So what your saying is power builds have been doing it wrong? Instead of wasting points on crit damage everyone should just grab power mainstat and stack precision if you have fury access or a crit chance modifer your good to go.

Dont waste stat points on precision?

This has been a thing for a while because of precision modifers many classes have. Elementalist shoot for 20-30% crit chance get perma fury, its ok if your crit chance is low on mesmer cause of fury on phantasm, hidden killer is self explanatory, unsuspecting foe is self explanatory, deathly perception self explanatory. This isn’t anything new slacking on precision because of those precision modifiers for a direct damage build has been a thing for a while.

It still holds that zerker out damages PvT easily but yea you direct damage builds can also slack on precision for many builds.
