Do traps really have any place in game? As they are, there are better options in pve . As for wvw, last time my guard stepped on a trap, first time since game started!!! , well 2 traps in a row, he went “oh oops, oh well”. Some use in spvp, but aside from that, given their effects and cd, pretty… negligible if you ask me.

I can tell you that thief traps are useless and probably will be forever. There was one guy who made use out of the trapper runes, but in turn took away all his mobility. I’ve seen people walk right through them with ease aswell. It’s just a pathetic utility skill.

Can’t tell you about Ranger traps. They seem to be more profitable to use.

Kitted for Condi and Traps , Its a lot better for Rangers to use these runes.
dropping all three traps on a Spread of location against a person trying to gap close you will end up downing himself , if he don’t react quickly enough with a Block/evade or dodge.

i;ve seen warroirs use Endure pain to get through these Traps and they just end up burning themselfs out.

the traps on ranger can be used as Massive spike(3 at a time)
one for runes to repostion and cripple.
two traps to set up a Firefield>leap>frost trap(stealth leave/repostion (putting there skills on a slower cooldown) allowing you to control the tempo of a fight.

on rangers they can be ether Powerful or So weak (untraited) they arn’t worth taking at all.

Ranger traps are a pretty brutal suprize for thieves/mezzy’s and possibly engies too. Aside from that there probably lacking as utility skills.

they are devastating, yes, but they lack finesse and they DO lower ones survivability.
If ArenaNet would listen to it’s community and turn traps into a sort of “kit”, then we would go a long way into making them MUCH MUCH more viable.

Ranger traps, in their basic form, is weaker then thief traps. They lack hard CC (immob for spike trap requires master trait). They lack duration and the cooldowns are not THAT short, given their short duration.
Traps also lack extra functionality tied to them. Still, when traited, thief traps got nothing on ranger traps. Sure the KD trap for thieves is good, and the trait applying vuln is also “good”. But alas, it’s the wrong skills/utilities for the wrong profession.

i would use traps if they where f2 f3 f4 skills .

but talk about a wasted utility slot XD
