In GW1 we had a system where we could save our builds… there was discussion some time ago about this happening in GW2 too but nothing has happened.

Any news on when we are going to get the ability to save our skills and trait builds?

I think the main problem for this, in Anet’s eyes, was where to store the information. They absolutely love storing everything server-side so you can play on any computer and have the same results (bar graphics). Note: Results is interchangeable with settings.

However, their problem was that what if someone decided they wanted 59 builds? 294 builds? 3000 builds?

Of course, this is easily remedied by a, literal, hard-cap as to how many builds you can have saved server-side (think Favorites, like in Dyes. Only your Favorites are stored on the server and you can have up to, say, 8 templates stored).

Additionally, with the current implementation of traits, it’s extremely simple to store the traits. A very visual, hexadecimal example of a trait setup would be:

[src] (Look at the traits tab)

64004:36b243a
Kudos to my friend Dotco for being a code-enthusiast and telling me this as soon as he saw the new traits.

Layman version:
64004 = 6/4/0/0/4
36b243a = III, VI, XI, II, IV, III, X in that order, meaning…
6 = III, VI, XI
4 = II, IV
0 = 0
0 = 0
4 = III, X

If you replace anything with a 0, it will be blank (wildcard). If you try to input something silly like
66666:123456789abcd1234567890… etc
you will get the traits:
662000:1230450

Relatively simple to implement and only taking up 12bytes per template.

well in GW1, builds were translatable into text files (like you suggest), so it’s REALLY cheap to store server-side and to share. armor was stored as a separate build (and IIRC, only PvP-exclusive characters could use them), but also a text file.

IMO, if i could just save the traits/utilities, i’d be happy enough. i know what armor and weapons i want with each build, i can put those myself. though it would be cool if the PvP builds also stored amulets, runes, and sigils (since they decided PvP players need to physically own the weapon they want equipped).

You could always limit the number of builds you could save (2 per char) and sell expansion wardrobes for additional builds using gems!

Absolutely. Personally I have no problem what so ever paying a few bucks for a handy and convenient benefit of this nature. As I see it, it would make players happy, while at the same time, giving Anet additional cash flow.

A solid legitimate quality of life feature. I would love to see this one day and it could definitely warrant the cost of some gems or what have you.

But this feature would be excellent in any form it would take.

So would other quality of life features, like:
-Bank of the Mist’s
-An option to relocate/remove the "Tournament Que " message from the repeatedly appearing Message in the center of your screen Indicating you may now Join your Tournament.
-An option to show the after match statistics in a smaller and transparent format in the corner of the screen at the end of each game. Allowing you the option to continue to play uninterrupted after the game has ended while still being able to see the final score/progress.

But more importantly :P
-An Audio effect when striking a friendly Turret with Tool Kits healing auto attacks. Preferably only sounding when the turret is actually being repaired.
