Right now the mesmer is overpowered in duels, it’s good in roaming yet never seen in sPvP or WvW zerging (except the utility bots).

This is my take on balancing the mesmer.

These are nerfs, buffs, reworks. These are all suggestions, please don’t burn it down if you see your favorite skill mentioned, but try to give feedback.

The main idea is to bring down passive play while buffing the shatter mesmers again.
Also to make the mesmer more viable in small and large scale WvW.

Traits

Domination

Shattered Concentration
Shatter Skills now remove 2 boons on hit.

- Confusing Echantments
ICD removed.

Dueling

Retaliatory Shield
Is now a minor trait (5 points).

Critical Infusion
Is now a major trait (10 points).
ICD reduced to 5 seconds instead of 10.

Confusing Cobatants
Moved to master tier (15 points).

- Sharper Images
Moved to grandmaster tier (25 points).

Chaos

Mirror of Anguish
Block the incoming CC and mirror it back to it’s source instead of only mirroring.

Greater Mantras (new trait)
New master trait (20 points).
All mantras are now AoE and their radius is increased to 480 from 240.

Prismatic Understanding
Interval increased to 3 seconds from 1 second.
Grant a random boon to everyone that you have stealthed every 3 seconds while they are in stealth.

Inspiration

Restorative Illusions
Heal you and your allies for a small ammount when you shatter illusions.
Heal increased by 150%.

Illusions

Imbued diversion
Moved to master tier (20 points).

Immortal illusions (new trait)
New grandmaster trait (30 points).
Illusions gain distortion for 1 second when summoned.

Utilities

Signet of Illusions
Renamed to Signet of Speed.
Passive effect changed to +25% movement speed.
Cooldown reduced to 75 seconds from 90 seconds.

Signet of Domination
Now hits up to 3 foes within a 240 radius of your target.

Mimic
Absorb all incoming attacks, charge a blast to return the damage.
Hit up to 5 foes within a 360 radius.
Added blast finisher.
Duration decreased to 3 seconds from 4.5 seconds.

Illusion of Life
Skill duration increased to 20 seconds from 15 seconds.
Poisons foes standing on the target location every second for 3 seconds.
Field duration increased to 2 seconds from 1.25 seconds.
Cooldown reduced to 90 seconds from 130 seconds.

Null Field
Field channels for 2 seconds when placed, after it will remove ALL boons on foes and cleanse ALL conditions on allies.
The field no longer pulses.

Timewarp
Quickness increased to 100% from 50%.

Don’t think they would change Quickness for Timewarp only. Make Timearp a Glamour, doesn’t need anything else, imo.

Personally i’d like to see the following:
- Keep Deceptive Evasion as is (always summoning a clone).
- Change all on-clone-death traits to only trigger when a clone is killed, not when replaced.

Also:

Shattered Concentration
Shatter Skills now remove 2 boons on hit.

That trait is already very powerful. Better leave it alone.

While i would lose on Sharper Images (actually a positive change for me…stacking bledding without wanting to and having a necro transfer it back is no fun) and Blade Training/1200 Range Manipulations, i think i could live with it if i could keep Vigor.

i think the mesmer simply needs either new skills or new traits that allow us to spec for aoe dmg.
de could have been handled like lavra said.

Hm… This trait is already really strong, 1 boon per shatter is fine.

Well 480 radius is reallly big. 240-360 would be better.

Prismatic Understanding
Interval increased to 3 seconds from 1 second.
Grant a random boon to everyone that you have stealthed every 3 seconds while they are in stealth.

PU is something you shouldn’t nerf into the ground so its not viable anymore. Make it:
Interval stays 1second. Every second you gain a random boon (aegis, protection or regen), for 1.5 seconds. (50% shorter uptime of the boons) Remove the 1 second longer stealth on every stealth.

Yes this really needs to happen. Especially with the nerf we’ll get next patch.
Switch it with the reset of shatter skills below 50% hp and reduce the cooldown of that trait to 30 seconds instead of 60.

Utilities

Hm.. signet of domination is already really strong. Aoe 3 sec stun seems a bit too much. I’d rather see the mantra of distraction fill this role.

Maybe in some sort of arcane blast type of skill? I’d say this would need a lot testing and work to do so. For example: it should be viable in roaming, as well as in raid. Maybe they can create some system it will deal less % damage of the absorbed damage the more attacks you absorb. With 5 attacks having a 50% damage blast and 50 attacks having a 5% return. The damage you deal back is based on your own stats. Meaning if you run full tank and someone of full zerker hits you for 5k it doesn’t send back 5k. Pretty much how reflects work now.

Hm now this is something interesting. Yes this could work, but make it more obvious to see. Something that looks like feedback. Maybe something that grows bigger the longer it’s placed on the ground.

The ones I didn’t discuss I didn’t really thought they were needed.
Another thing: I’d like to see a new elite for mesmer too. With GW1 you had things like Echo:
Elite Enchantment Spell. (30 seconds.) Echo becomes the next skill you use (30 seconds)

And
Power Block":
Elite Spell. If target foe is casting a spell or chant, that skill and all skills of the same attribute are disabled (1…10…12 seconds) and that skill is interrupted.

Elite skill that does 2 second daze and another 3 seconds when interrupted anyone?
Or the Echo from GW1, but with a 40/60 seconds cooldown instead of 30?
