about ranger update
While I agree it’s not the greatest trait in the world… it is worth noting the sword (which is our highest DPS weapon) provides perma-cripple whilst AAing, meaning the trait is more or less a flat 10% DPS boost to our already high damaging weapon. Also, with the update to our pet traits they mentioned, it’s possible some pets will also be able to grant perma-cripple (although it does seem likely the trait will be given an ICD to prevent this.. but you never know).
Ranger’s do in general have the best soft CC of all the classes, so it does make sense as a trait for us, even if they % seems a bit low IMO.
Gunnar’s Hold
in a PvE scenario this trait is fantastic: use sword and trait for pet cripple on crit and you already have a perma cripple build, and you are not considering that even in dungeons you are with other 4 people and almost everyone has some sort of soft cc to help you take advantage of the new trait. If we talk about PvP or WvW, well I agree with you: I would not invest 6 points for a 10% boost to damage, not even it it was reliable all the time.
I think Predator’s Onslaught might be one of those things that you need to get in your hands before it starts to make sense. But, right now I think the gameplay behind the trait is that you’re meant to access the Cripple already available on the weapon and time your heavier hitting skills with that, using snares from pets and utilities as more of a supplement.
Like;
Longbow; Barrage → Rapid Fire
Greatsword; Crippling Throw → Maul
Sword + Axe; Sword Autoattack Kick → Path of Scars
Sword + Warhorn; Sword Autoattack Kick x2 → Hunter’s Call
Still not enough for wvw
Just the WvW
R3200+
Would be nice if that trait also made the duration of your cripple/chill/immobs irreducible. Otherwise you are forced to run + duration food in wvw, hardly ideal for direct damage builds.
I agree with vox and the other posts, I am just saying that it is too gimmicky. Even with what vox said you will need an order of skills to use or one particular weapon to use. The ranger has way tooooo many traits that require multiple steps to be useful. This trait isn’t good enough again…best case ie I hit my shortbow bow for about 1k. If Im able to spam cripple I could shoot for 1100?? And that is if the damage is taken off the top (while cripple is in play). I was hoping for goodies like the other classes have…
Many other classes have useful traits and slot skills that you ckittene regardless! what build you are. Like a slot skill skill to pop fury, offensive sigs like + to power of precision.
So for the reasons mentioned above, it will be REALLY good in PvE and kiting.
But i think you’re underestimating pvp and wvw value.
It could work really well in a power trap build (6/6/x/x/x) with frost and spike trap.
It also work would really well in a (6/0/2/6/0) build with SotF’s and revamped entangle and MT. I think with the other changes to intimidating training and entangle, the trail will be better in spvp and wvw (lol im imagining a midrange ranger w/ the entangle bombs and axes with might going everywhere.) that people think.
Also could really help skrimishing SB….crip shot says hi. That’s where they are going with this.

Predator’s Onslaught is going to become the PvE 1 hand sword meta with the build 6/5/0/3/0 build particularly in mind.
Besides that though, it does receive some pretty hard competition in other game modes. The removal of Signet of the Beastmaster and addition of making signets affect rangers by default is arguably the more valuable change to take away from the addition of Predator’s Onslaught.
I prefer Predator’s Onslaught to Strider’s Defense any day though. If I had to choose between more of one or the other, it certainly would never, ever, ever, ever, ever be the latter.

predators onslaught will synergize with Axe, longbow, with control traps, entangle, and definitely will benefit the ranger in a Champ train or EotM Karma train. Get a big enough zerg, and high HP mobs will certainly have movement impeding conditions on them at least 50% of the slaughter time. +10% damage against high HP mobs is mobs isn’t exactly meaningless. especially considering how 2% damage buff or nerf is the difference between OP and worthless according to posters on these very forums.
dudes…just wait and test it.
I cant understand why some People thinks in WvW the trait would be gimmicky.
IMO in zerg it means perma 10% because almost everyone has some sort of movement condis.
This trait is good, ist okay enough to be a ranger trait. Not every kitten trait Needs to be OP as hell just because some of u want to feel like a god.

the skrittfinisher was my idea!
Ranger has so much access to cripple and other movement, immo and chill its unreal. Taking advantage of the trait will be incredibly easy!
In fact I so believe we are number one for those three conditions.

and another point, you wont be able to have the 10% damage and fire the longbow faster, they are both yellow skills…
Am i the only one here who noticed the pet gaining 5% damage increase on the target too?
Also, literally EVERY one of our weapon sets has a form of soft CC on it, no matter what you do this trait will be at least partially useful. Also, just by getting the trait all your cripples, immobs, and chills are going to last 30% longer, not to mention that pairing this thing with Muddy Terrain, Entangle, and/or the new Intimidation training (all pet F2s apply cripple to those they hit, and you can increase that further with Malicious Training) and you’re going to have a lot of added damage.

It is a PvE trait, first and foremost

Idj, it just looks like a damage trait to me, I can totally see it being used in PvP for more skirmishy builds.

I’m with chokolata. While you’re right it is just a DPS trait like any other, only sword can really maintain 100% cripple uptime with relative ease.
The various traits and pets will keep it up reasonably well too, I suppose. But still seems more sword focused.
I agree with the posts, im just saying it is totally hindering the ranger by putting both read the wind and the new trait bonus cripple damage in the same trait line. That is just wrong. It would not be a game changer or make rangers op.
many other profession ie – the guardian and ele both have more damage when set on fire and THEY ARE NOT YELLOW TRAITS. Why should the ranger’s first ever ‘’more to damage’ trait be a final trait?? and why does it have to offset with the longbow trait so you cant have both??

Oh our first ever? What about our 5pt in skirmishing, wilderness survival and Nature Magic, and then there’s also Steady Focus, which is an adept trait.
So please tell me more about how this is our first “more damage” trait.

The only problematic thing is that piercing arrows is a trait on its own. It should be merged with quick draw and put at adept level in skirmishing. Everything else is non bow specific. Remorseless is a silly trait and should be removed
Yea I’d really prefer it was more than 10% given it can be a bit difficult to achieve in most cases unlike endurance and health full conditions, flanking, buffs.. Cripple and chill are very noticeable and generally cleared by people as a priority so the eligibility for this buff will be a low time frame. Either that or a little extra flair like adds duration to cripple/chill conditions.

It’s 15% since it’s 10% for you and 5% to your pet, not to mention we literally have a cripple or chill on ALL our weapon sets, and we can trait pets F2s to apply cripple ontop of other effects, and we have a multitude of other abilities to immob, cripple, or chill the enemy when you look at our pets and our utilities.
It’s hardly going to be as difficult as most people think.
