time for new class?
We have never once in 2 years had all 8 classes show up in either the PvE, PvP, or WvW meta at the same time. Some classes have never shown up in one or more of these.
Adding another class to have the same issues (or worse…) seems like a bad idea.
Well we only have 2 heavy armor classes, so why not one more?
What about a paladin?
Class mechanic being dark/light. Kind of like attunements but only 2.
What does the meta or being the meta have anything to do with a new profession?

We have 8 classes. If only 4 are useful, why add a 9th instead of making the other 4 useful?

Starting fresh is easier then perfecting something I guess…? Who knows, maybe building a class from scratch would give the devs more insight into balancing the others. Worst case scenario we get another useless class or another broken class in some game modes but still get something new to play with.
No we do not need another new profession.
OP, if you do not play the game now, because you do not like any of the professions, why would you like a new one? The ones we have are varying and unique in their own ways.

All of the professions are useful. If you cannot get solid use out of one, then your doing it wrong.

You don’t have to be meta to be useful.

Impossible imo… I would rather see dervish or parangon from Gw1 than this copy paste… And also guardian quite fit the roll of paladin as paladin is mostly good…
I loved dervishes, but I doubt they will bring them back. It is hard to come up with a heavy armor class that doesn’t step on the theme of guards, warriors, or necros. Light is what a guardian is. Straight up brawler weapon master is warrior. Dark is obviously necro.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.
No this game needs new classes badly. New classes brings new skills, new traits, and new elements to the game in general. If a new class were to come out that for the most part had its way with warriors, but got battered by necros, that alone changes the dynamic of the game. yes, of course balancing is important, but nothing is EVER going to be 100% balanced, they also need to open up the table more
I would love to see a samurai class. Only uses blades and a bow. Lots of evades with very few blocks/blinds. Output depends heavily on traits splitting offense and defense. Maybe their class mechanic could be “outcry” that you build up like life force or adrenalin, but when used gives you buffs that last until the bar depletes. Base buffs plus offensive or defensive buffs from trait lines, that can range from regen/stability to % damage increases/etc.

Huh? Which 4 classes are useful? Would love to hear your answer.

probably GWEN in wvw…
the problem with the gw2 classes is that they’ve spread classes out quite far so most things are already covered in small amounts.
there is room for a Deathknight/evil crusader style class though,
themes of both a heavy melee character like warrior mixed with necromancer themes.
you could probably also pull off Paragon, but other than using spear on land their skills would be very similar to warrior lol
you miiiight also be able to squeeze in the dervish, but i can’t think of how they’d be anything more than a PBaoE class with a scythe.
ritualist wouldn’t have a place since turrets already fill the role of offensive spirit of pain/anguish/suffering etc, and ranger spirits fill the healing/protection roles.
back in gw1 they planned a chronomancer class, i can’t see how the mechanics would work, but that would be an awesome class to see. (here is some chronomancer concept art from GW1)
There are so many archetypes that can already be made, just so few are viable. Rather see (for once…) an effort made to revitalize all the completely useless traits and utilities and weapons that just do not work no matter how much you want it to. You would see a lot of diversity if the reward of such builds wasn’t like locating waldo.
Sure mix in an additional weapon selection for each profession just to spice things up but they gata address the tumbleweeds for kitten’s sake.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
fix the current ones first (bugs)

For those commenting on Atherakhia’s post, I’m guessing it went completely over your heads. He wasn’t making a statement about the games current balance, he was elaborating on a previous comment by using a hypothetical example.
As for a new profession, no thanks. I’d rather see more diversity opened up on existing professions.
I honestly support additional classes sure we have 8 but why not 10? there are surely infinite playstyles why are you kittening about balance of other classes? this has nothing to do with the balance of other classes it has to do with the number of available classes. I personally wouldnt mind a class that actually used guns effectively as a primary weapon. or one that was built around hammers. also while each class has its own nearly infinite range of playstyles they only have ONE class mechanic. new class mechanics could improve the game as well.
Dragon Knight- The dragon knight offers a different style of play than the Warrior. They have lower defense values, but make up for this disability with high evasion
can take on groups of enemies to make fights easier on teammates
dragon knights wield spears with force, and cover themselves with dragon scales for defense.
Martial Artist /samurai/monk- Having both offensive skills and defensive skills , they can beat down their enemies with an onslaught of attacks. The more times they hit an enemy while under their Charge, the more attack speed and physical attack they gain.
focus on combo moves and breaking through enemies’ resistances.
warlock: uses swords to cast both light and dark magic,
large magic attacks with long cast times resulting in explosive effects

The thing about adding professions to a game with a solid stable already is that the devs have gone to great lengths to incorporate characteristics of professions that they may have had to leave out into existing ones. So if you were to add more you run a heavy risk of redundancy.
Not only that but we have a hard enough time getting the current professions balanced.
but thats the thing it is not stable and idk if it ever will be. there will all ways be a meta
as long as each class has a specific role in the game they will have a use .
take ranger & mesmer GS for example they both compete for long range damage but have very different uses
and that’s not holding people back from using them
Yes, it’s about time.
Coming soon™
Along with the new set of legendaries, mounts, and 3 breant new cult. armours.
one thing about new classes though
new classes = character expansion slots
