Part of the fun last year was grouping up and entering together, watching your friends die to ooze :P Been trying repeatedly to get in the same instance as my spouse but no joy.

It’s just unfun for me to be sitting across the room for him but unable to actually play with him if we’re doing this activity. PLEASE make it so parties are put in the same instance.

/2 coppers.

Just tried to complete it with longtime friends. Disappointed. A step backwards imo.

This year isn’t an actual PvP event, so it isn’t going to work out.

I wonder if a nice dev could explain why it is the way it is?

Yeah it’s starting to feel like they are actively trying to STOP you from grouping, judging by the number of times we loaded to lobby and synced clicking to enter it (to no avail).

Ghosting other players is an improvement over last year imo. But forcing me to run it over and over again with strangers only is a big step back.

This isn’t a social game.

That’s just how it is unfortunately.

The ghosting of other players is a huge improvement, but setting the clock tower in pvp I think is a huge set back. Last year part of the fun was running with friends and joking around with players between sets. This year no one talks, they just run it and then leave, even if you do try and chat up the other players most of them tend to ignore you.

I will be very disappointed if they do this to the Christmas jumping puzzle as well. Half the fun of the Christmas one is throwing snowballs at your friends and guild mates as you wait for the next round.

If Anet really wanted to improve the clock tower give us something to do while we wait for the next round to start. Dont use PVP for jps anymore PLEASE.

Dearhearts, please understand that making the jumping puzzle a PvP area is a choice dictated by technical limitations Anet has.

The reason why the clokctower is a PvP area now is because that was the easiest way for them to control other aspects they wanted to change without writing new specific code (removing buffs, skills, limiting player numbers per instance etc) – PvP instances already have this code background available, so they used it. PvP gear and random teams are a side-effect.

Of course I’d prefer to be “my own PvE self” in the Twoer, and I’d prefer to play with friends, but choosing between a ball of charr and norn on my screen or sudden swiftness that ruins my jumps and other problems from last year I can honestly say it is not a step backwards. Anet did bets they could. I just wish they could write some more code not to use PvP for it, but I see it as fair trade.

Your explanation makes total sense. I don’t even mind my PvP gear.

For me though, the fact that I COULD and DID finish it despite massive manly norns (who to be fair, many of which removed their armor to avoid blocking as much as possible) in my face makes me prefer that + friends over this + no friends.

It’s nice to have someone disagree civilly for a change though

My problem is, the change makes kind of sense considering all those annoying charrs and norns last year, but it also makes me sad, because my guild and I had a lot of fun doing it together. It’s like too sides of a coin, can’t decide what is better.
(Btw what annoys me most, is that the game wants to kick me out while waiting for a new run… “50s left before kick”)
