So, a new event brings new skins…hard to get as always but always cool!
As usual the GS (Chiroptophobia in this case) gets all the love. How cool are the bat animations!
Sadly however Im a ranger, and cool skins are so hard to come by, (I refuse to wear flowers or unicorns If i was a big tank dressed in metal i would have a handful of cool GS skins to choose from..
So i was pretty stoked to get myself a cool Araneae spider bow. I was pretty happy with my new toy, until some big Charr came by sporting his bat sword, with sweet animations :/ … creepy little bats flying around
Even the Bloody Prince scepter got some animation…
How hard would it have been to show the bow a little love…just once? How about it drops little baby spiders when wielded?? or even cooler make it shoot webs when fired…
So thats my beef… just once… show us rangers an act of kindness and give us something cool too …

No kidding. I haven’t used a one hand on my ranger in months. Carry it around in case I feel like it, but rather the GS. That said. I STILL hate, HATE, the change they made to the GS. 3 stacks of vuln for a few seconds is useless crap.

I guess you totally missed the entire point of the post, and you missed the fact I called myself a “ranger” not “melee ranger” but thx for the tip Im sure you were trying to be helpful…

I hardly ever use long bow on my ranger (I’ve been using a short bow since before the nerf and got used to it), but if they got some love then I’d probably use it

Setting aside the question of bow ranger versus greatsword ranger, I think it’s worth noting that at least there is a new longbow, which is more love than axes, torches, or warhorns got. It would be nice if the longbow had some more special effects, but if you’re going to dramatically frame it as “could we just once get a little love?” I think a little perspective is in order.

If there are a lack weapon skin types, chances are Engineers are the ones that weild those weapons and we always get nothing or neglected.

Sorry I didn’t roll a meat shield with giant weapons, I don’t need to be punished for it.
edit: I’m just not gonna bother with one more year without expansion, next MMO comes out I’m gone.

I was trying to be helpful actually, but the term “ranger” doesn’t refer to someone who fights from range. It refers to someone who ranges, roams, traverses land, etc.. Melee or ranged combat both fit the outdoors man archetype the class is suppose to fill

I don’t think the sword counts either but it is probably the perfect skin for people who want to be “unique”. You’ll probably never see another player using that sword.

Yeah btw, greatsword have always good skins during events, other weapons got no love (like daggers…or pistols) designers need really to put some love in other weapons too.

Yup as an engineer myself I feel your pain. Our rifle skins are terrible (even worse if you are Asuran like me as they are so small). The only rifle skin I like is “The Predator” legendary, only problem I have is that I cant get “The Hunter” pre-cursor from the mystic toilet.

Just once I would like to have a rifle or pistol skin that looks nice. So tired of Greatswords getting all the love.

It is true though, that GSs are like the favorite child of weapon skins.

Just look at legendaries:
Which weapon type had a legendary that was so good from the start it didn’t need an effects buff in the semi-recent patch?
Which weapon type has the only combinable mega-legendary?

Though I think all of the weapon types could benefit from a full pristine down-to-earth set.

By that I mean:

Greatsword: Long Shiny Thin(ish) Claymores (as opposed to nearly Anime proportioned massive broadswords)

Daggers: Something like the AC daggers but shiny silver and much smaller (sharp and small, sharp and small, not blunt and file cabinet sized)

Swords: Bonetti’s Rapier was awesome, more of that

Staves: More stuff like Monsoon. Very slim base with cool glowy/glassy/jewely things at the end. Maybe finish the set and make a tornado one and a earthquake one.

I wholeheartedly agree. Would be nice to see a nice warhorn skin for a change.

That is very much a personal taste thing. I find many of the GS skins to be extremely ugly. The two Legendaries for example while not in the extreme category they are at least in the slightly unappealing category. Then there is the dragon’s jade GS. Lets not forget the crafted exotic GS. It is too bad GW2 doesn’t have the holy trinity because with that thing you are going around spanking enemies with that giant paddle.

This bat gs is of legendary aesthetics. The only thing it is missing is footfalls… but the bat effects help in that regard.

Meanwhile look at daggers… there literally have been no good non-legendary, particle effect daggers since launch. The few that come close (super, fused, winter’s, zodiac) are still lackluster compared to gs counterparts.

I liked the fused skins specifically because they didn’t have massively overblown effects, but had a little somethin’ extra.

You could hand me a fused dagger, and an incinerator, and I’d pick the fused dagger simply because it’s effects aren’t overdone to the point of just plain ludicrous.

I much prefer the flopsy one-handed sword, but that’s just me. That perfectly captures the spirit of this “holiday.”

I do agree that the bow could have used some animation, but then, I would never use it anyway. Much prefer my simple and elegant Pirate Bow skin.

The new Halloween 1H sword skin is perfect for anyone who wants to play the part of “comedy-relief” pirate.

Glad I’m not the only one. Every new GS skin to release gives me a good laugh simply due to the sheer silliness of them, but with this event’s GS skin, I literally couldn’t laugh just because of how stupid it looked. But then again, these weapons are designed with the target audience of people who think comically undersized glowing wings flopping around on armored warriors’ backs look appealing, so I guess I’ll not expect much of weapon designs in general in the future. Though who knows, maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I completely and totally agree. I was working on the components of Twilight, but then I saw the bat Greatsword. I now have an ascended Bat GS and couldn’t be happier. I literally danced around the room with glee when I saw the look of the sword, squeed at the bat sounds and get a huge stupid grin when I see the bat flying around when I wield my new awesomeness.

To whomever designed it, Maggie Jackdaw would love to thank you from the bottom of her heart.

This is exactly how i felt last year when the greatsaw came out. I decided i wouldn’t ever go for twilight/sunrise after all.

Well you as a ranger can equip a GS, but what about the allmighty Thief. What we get is a legendary with cool effects and that’s it. Even scepters get more love than daggers.

It’s probably a catch-22 situation. Greatswords are the most popular weapon by far, so they get the most attention devoted to their skins, which in turn continues making them the most popular weapons.

That’s what having a whole generation or two of kids growing up with Cloud Strife, Inuyasha, Berserk, and countless others will get you. Also the GS is usually one of the easier weapons to use. Its the noobtube of GW2.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t shy away from using them when the situation warrants it but we could use some more love on other weapons.

The lack of decent looking maces and foci in this game makes me sad.

I expect the mace variety to be a little lacking since only Guard and War can use them, not sure why Engi can’t has mace and hammer.

As for focus, i’d like some more talisman looking foci, like an Ank, that blue glowey symbol on the guard’s starter helm is an Ank i want one of those, or maybe a focus that looks like a dagger, like an ornate ritual dagger made out of bone or gold.

Where the f’ are my maces?
