Halloween costume review:

Female outfit review:

The Executioner’s outfit is a tent. Bulky and cumbersome. The boots are thick and make your legs look very heavy and thick. The animal skull in front is over sized, as are the keys. Though is is not a surprise Anet has a tendency to oversize everything. I would have liked the hood if it did not make your neck look like an elephant, though the mask underneath is nice. The weapon is very well done, but not work the price alone.

The Bloody Prince’s outfit is passable, though the mask is very Heath Ledger. I hate the strap skirt, it just sticks out and and does not flow. The entire outfit would be much better if it was removed. The shoes have a high heel. I am happy for, but the heelss a little thick and clunky not very fashionable (per usual shoe). The leggings are nice as well are the gloves. The bodice is one of the nicest I have seen in a while , though the straps are again much too thick. The weapon is very well done and has great detail on it.

Final Note: Costume review is luck warm. For some reason Anet does not want to produce a sexy costume. But look at the stores for adult costumes and they should figure out where they are going wrong. Most female adult costumes are some what sexy or at least fashionable. What ever happened to the GW1 designer that made the Raiment of the Lich outfit?

Speak for yourself- I love the costumes and the Bloody Prince costume looks very sexy on my Sylavri female Necro-

I have a huge problem with the fact that they are town clothes and not armor though
I have the Witch costume on my main since last year and every time I wear it I get complimented on my sexy armor -_-

LEGO Stores has a Pick-a-Brick lego figure option.
Arenanet should offer a Pick-a-Piece costume maker ^^

Yep Executioner is a “tent”, but the design looks good tho.
Its GW2’s new fatish to make everything look Fat (butts) and oversized (Shoulders – wow style?)

Traditionally, executioners don’t inspire “sexy” so much as “this is the end of you”. They’re foreboding, cloaked and hooded grim characters meant to inspire dread.

The costume is spot on.

(And besides… someone, somewhere finds all that sexy regardless. )

I don’t want every costume to be sexy. Halloween is supposed to be scary!

That’s the main problem with costumes now. You should be able to (like in GW1) override your PvE look with your costume. For obvious reasons this should not apply to WvW and sPvP, however.

Actions, not words.

@Morgan – I was speaking for myself, thank you. I respect your opinion, but also think should respect mine.

@RoyalPredator great idea about the pick what parts you want. Might get me to buy those shoes or weapon

@CETheLucid the GW1 Raiment of the Litch was scary and sexy Love the scare too BTW. I am not say all should be sexy but give us one and let the buyer choose!

Astralporing. I love how GW1 did costumes skins. And especially the tailor.

I love the costumes and really want the Mad King one however I wont be buying as I would want it as a armor not just a town costume. If I could transmute the skin on to my armor wether it be light/medium/heavy then I would not even be thinking twice about it

So far, all the costumes have been amazing. Unfortunately, the fact that they are all merely town clothes is a testament to stupidity. Bring back the GW PvE costumes and get rid of the costume brawl garbage…or make it like the new weapon skins: they can be either PvP or PvE so make the outfits either armor skins (PvE) or town clothes (PvP) for the costume brawl (yuck). Simple. One has to wonder who has so much clout at ANET that the costume brawl still exists in its current form what with all the people begging to throw money at ANET for actual armor skins, yet they continue to waste amazing artwork on town clothes…ugh.

I don’t mind town clothes that are not for armor use (I do a ton of RP), so long as there are also armor skins. It’s nice to be able to flip outfits at the press of a button and not have to worry one has forgotten to re-equip PvE gear when heading out to fight. Plus it gives more variety.

The Executioners is great because it has good looking boots and gloves and an interesting hood. Combine those with the axe, riding pants, and ornate shirt (on a woman) and you have a striking look. I actually bought a second set of it so that more than one alt can have quick access to the accessories.

The Prince, on the other hand, desperately needs a way to hide those shoulder spikes. Without them it’s flexible to many situations even if it is just one skin from shoulder to toe (it hides the pants and boots you are wearing). With them it’s purely Halloween and frankly, despite others here going on about how perfect it is for a necromancer, neither of my necros would wear big unbalancing spikes like that. The Prince outfit lacks flexibility and I might not have bought it had I known that in advance, other than hating to miss out on any outfit chance. Though I’ll admit the Staff skills are fun.

I’ll also throw in my opinion that I find these new additions to be VERY well done……

……but the fact that they made them town clothes??

If they’d have made them actually USEFUL pieces of in-game gear I’d have bought all three (Mad King, Executioners and Princes’) in a heartbeat. I’ve already bought the Primal, Brahm’s and Light Aetherblade for my corral of alts. But only one did I pay money for. The rest was bought with converted gold.

Instead they expended talent, resources and developing time to give us stuff that a fraction of the population will use a fraction of their in-game time.

Boggles the mind.
/sigh

Time to take a page from Rift Devs if you want more of our cold hard cash. I played both games for the first six months of the year….and dropped way more money on their cash shop in those six months than I have the entire year in GW2. Their system was WAY more robust in allowing their players to mix/match and buy armors and skins so the players could feel their toons were unique and awesome.

It’s really one of my biggest gripes about this otherwise awesome game.

I love the executioner outfit. As an actual female player I think it’s nice that my character doesn’t have to run around dressed like a stripper. I honestly can’t believe you would be so over critical of a costume design just because it’s not yet another kittenty female outfit. Don’t you think a little diversity is good? Why berate something for looking stylish and awesome instead of sexy?

I love this game for allowing us female players the option to dress our characters however we want. Nothing really compares with that bitter disappointment when your hardened warrior finally finds that all powerful enchanted breastplate, only to find out it’s a freaking metal bikini for some reason.

I just wish my character could look this awesome even in combat. <3

Introduce costume slots that even existed in Original Guild Wars. Let us fight in these costumes.

- or do something fast with the whole town clothes and costume thing because now the whole idea is rather, eh.

Also introduce a Costume Maker that even existed in Original Guild Wars that kept your costumes for you, so you didn’t have to hold them in your bag or bank space.

I just bought the Executioner’s and I have to say in costume brawls it seems crap. Skill 2 never hits even if you have your target selected, you just run past them. Skill 4 makes all flee and then you run off forward usually away from all enemies. What’s the point of that? Again it wont make you chase and hit your enemy, a totally useless skill. Also the skeleton familiar seems to do NOTHING but stand there.

I was fighting someone in the Mad King’s set and he did nothing but stun lock me or make me flee I had no chance. The only thing I can hit people with is skill 3 and that just becomes spam fest, yay…

So can we now rate them all not only by looks but also by usability?

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Haha, I know what you mean. I allowed myself to buy the executioner one, but I bet I’ll probably end up buying the bloody prince one too before it goes. It looks fantastic in game.

My compliments to whatever artists are hard at work making such great costumes.

Here’s my own review:
- Not an unlock. You pay DLC price not for the costume, but for perishable single items. They may be account bound, but only one character can have them at a time, and if you forget who had them, you may have to spend a lot of time juggling inventories, or having to keep it in the bank while not in use. PEople who pay should get convenience, not hassles.
- Not usable in activities. Activities have separate skills and rulesets, and while some change your appearance, in the rest you play with PvP clothes. Instead, people should be able to choose between PvE, PvP and town clothes in there.

Therefore, none of the costumes is worth buying right now.

Tell’em to call me when they make it an unlock that can be used in activities like GW1’s.

Then I’ll get them all, like I did in GW1. Every single one.

SUGGEST-A-TRON says:

^ Yeah, I’m not buying any costumes either unless it’s an unlock. I REALLY want a PvE armor wardrobe.
