I have noticed a few posts about how Scarlet could be related to the mad king. Well…
1) We never really found out who or what made her go cuckoo.
2) She is mad, kind of obvious.
3) Mention of a clock in that poem, despite no clocks being in that update. The clock tower?
4) “Be a good subject and recruit a few villagers for me.” This may be just over thinking but could 3 villagers be related to the 3 factions of the Molten Alliance, the Flame Legion and the Aetherblades.

Now all of this is entirely theory crafting but connecting the 2 is totally plausible.

There is massive speculation bout the possible connections between Scarlet and Thorn. People are speculating such because of the themes, the Briar/Thorn semantics, the dates, the technology, etc.

For the purpose of the story, since Halloween is taking over as the LS content for this update, it’s important to note that somehow their paths may cross, but I doubt it will do so in a way that significantly impacts the overarching Living Story plots.

It would be a very poetic knot to tie, for the two characters (three this year) to be related, and one that players are greatly anticipating. I am hoping that when the two characters are not connected in any way that there isn’t a massive wave of disappointment. Not to say that it isn’t possible, but I just don’t think they would allow an annually recurring festive character to have a place in the game’s primary plot device (Living Story). To do so would take MKT out of his element and place him in the context of the rest of the world. Remember, Scarlet serves as the driving force behind the entire LS at this point, which includes Cutthroat Politics, Flame/Frost, and Southsun (and somehow Tequatl).

It has been said that the threads will be sewn in time, and that all of these plots will converge, and unless ANet comes completely out of left field with MKT being a part of any of those events, I think it is highly unlikely that he and Scarlet will be related, at least in any significant way. Although it would be awesome

Imho – she is a member of Lunatic Court and she is breaking the seals to free our beloved Mad King.

If your theory is correct and the lore team writes a masterpiece that nobody expects, (she is really an elite member of the lunatic court) and is a servant to the mad king, I will cry tears of joy.

Yeah you could find a lot of things that tie them together and honestly I hope that they do have some kind of event like this, I just think it’s unlikely. The introduction of this new character though is what catches my interest.

If they were to make MKT/Halloween events the new direction for living story, I would like to see it one of two ways:

Scarlet attempts to break out Thorn but in the process, the new Prince steals the show and is released instead, introducing a brand new Villain to Tyria.

OR (and the favorite of my two theories)

Scarlet sacrifices herself and Thorn is released to overthrow Jennah, plunging Kryta into the dark ages and the new Prince becomes the central Halloween figure.

There was a forum post a while back by a player concerned about the living story concentrating on LA, and was asking about when Divinity’s Reach would have a spotlight. A dev replied “Kryta will have its day.”

It could be assumed that Kryta already had its day, in the Jubilee. I’m hoping Kryta is about to see its day in the form of a new, mad King.

But probably not

Well, although the theories here are very interesting and intriguing. I fear that once again we will have to face the harsh reality that the fan fiction and speculation surrounding the living “story” are, as usual, MUCH more interesting than the story itself.

Remember when the scarlet update was first teased? The forums were alive with all sorts of great ideas. Then the content dropped and… we got scarlet…

That being said, I freaking love MKT and am happy with him just being the way he is. The story and content around him last year were awesome. The scavenger hunt with the ghosts who told his story had me racing to the next location to learn more. By the end of it i had been introduced to a character that i both loved and hated.

To this day, MKT is by far my favorite character from the game.

One thing that intrigues me the most is this whole “Personal Nemesis” thing. I came up for this today but…. I wonder why Lord Faren was such an important figure of recent events? Another GW2Wiki quote about one of the NPCs from the last year:
“The reign of <<King Thorn>> was nasty, brutish, and short. His first act as king was to execute Lord Humphrey FAREN for accusing him of murdering his father, declaring all traitors would be punished without delay.”

Coincidence? Maybe… or maybe not.
He was also a noble like Lord Faren from PERSONAL story (Personal Story – PERSONAL Nemesis… wink wink ). Also check out their outfits (they look very similar):

Thaia, way back in beta I did the noble PS and I loved Lord Faren. I was super worried he’d turn out to be the bad guy, having staged his own kidnapping (mild spoiler but it happens in the very first PS step so I’ll not worry too much about it). Then in live play I got past level 20 and … nothing. He might as well never have existed.

But then he came back in Southsun and the Funhouse, and it still looks possible for him to be so much more than the fop he’s seemed all this time. I don’t want him to be my nemesis, I want him to be my buddy, but it would actually fit lore to have him prove false. They did say the nemesis was someone we already knew, which certainly rules out Scarlet.

The evidence is certainly available that MKT can possible have a role, but if you look hard enough for anything in lore, you’re likely to find it. This is true of most conspiracy theories, the more you want something to be true, the more likely it is that you’ll fit random links together to form a cohesive story, even if one doesn’t exist. But if this turns into a play that brings us to the release of MKT, the writers deserve a kudos for doing so.

The loose ends however are the roles that Evon and Kiel play in this whole drama. What is significant about Thaumanova and Abaddon (which must be considered because it was a potential reality).

if scarlet is involvd in this, it’d be because we’re not paying attention to her, after being the focus of everyones annoyance for ages, halloween comes and everyone pretty much forgets about her, for a maniac criminal, that’d be the worst insult :P

we’d be probably joining mad king in fighting her unless she recruits mk…. but i doubt hed be willing to share the stage
