Mad kings tower screwing me over
It took me a couple tries too. There’s a certain spot that you want to hit when you fly at it. Since it’s turning, it’s easy to miscalculate. You basically want to hit the left side of the opening with your character.
Sometimes visually seeing it helps. Last year I had to watch a video of someone doing it before I could understand exactly.

Last year there was a bug or something that caused you to hit an invisible wall on the clock face. I’m not sure if it still exists, but if thats what it seems like you are doing then you can leave and enter another lobby/relog and it should fix it.
But it does have a very precise spot you have to hit. The link Rekia posted may help. I know I had a lot of issues discerning when to hit the clock without watching a video.
Good luck.
Well I completed it twice today on two different characters with the method above and it worked for me, so maybe watch the video and give it a try. Unfortunately, you only get the gloves once per account it looks like.
I actually don’t think you have to hit the clock face that precisely; however, if you have lag / latency to the server, sometimes you have to jump extremely early.
I’m talking like 2-3 walls earlier (before the clock even gets hit) depending on how much you lag.
You can use the rising level of the green mist to help gauge when you need to jump.

It’s lag, as null says. I haven’t done the Clocktower again so far this year, but last year, one good way to tell if you were lagging was to observe the gears at the start when they burst out of the wall. If they flowed out in one smooth motion, you’re good. However, if they seem to freeze in mid-air or suddenly appear in front of you, you’re lagging and you will need to jump about 1 – 2 seconds earlier than the lightning strike at the top in order to make it into the window.

I’ve experienced the same thing in 3 different lobbies :\ Also I’ve already watched a video of it which is how I’ve managed to do it at all. I’ll experiment with jumping super early but I’m not very optimistic about it.

I agree with this, I also use the animations of spawning platforms to tell how much I’m lagging. If the platforms after the leap of faith chest spawn instantly (without animation), then I gotta jump about 2-3 tower walls / faces early.
I have completed the clocktower multiple times (at least 20 times) and not once have I failed jumping into the clocktower when reaching the top.
You have to wait for the lightning to strike the clock and then proceed to jump.
edit: yeah I think most people will be super excited and jittery when they reach the top and will jump way too early. You gotta wait a long while til the lightning strikes.
EDIT2: I have finally encountered this bug, ITS REAL. I believe it has to do with server/latency problems when the server slightly lags or if you are lagging. I have video proof and have been able to re-create this lame bug. Will be uploading tomorrow.

Don’t try to anticipate the jump. Just wait for the lightning to strike and the clock face to break, then jump.
Jump from the far right corner or the platform right when the lightning strikes. You’ll make it in every time.
It took me a few tries to get it down. Basically I was jumping too late. Last year I could jump just after seeing the lightning strike, but that’s too late this year. Now I jump as soon as I see the clock face on the last revolution.
Okay, I’ve now made it to the top 10 times with exactly the same result every time no matter what I do. Anet can keep their bullkitten, My server’s probably going to be stuck in gold league with all of the super high tier servers so I’m probably going to quit for a while if not indefinitely.
