Messed Up Candy Corn economy
That stuff could be coming in the second Halloween patch. That’s what I’m hoping for, anyway.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
you can always give the candy corn to the kids running around LA, you get a personalized Trick or treat bag. Its not much, but you get some chance at getting some extra stuff besides just more candy corn.
Just sell it the prices are bound to drop like a rock in the 2nd to 3rd weeks of farming. Buy it back later for less if you want to. Most likely, you won’t even want to.
That’s my line of thinking, panzer. I think the main factor holding players back is because prices are SO high that they mark it off as unachievable and just dump their CC stocks onto the TP, which few people then buy because they see it as too expensive and not worth while.
I think they could lower the prices for the Bloody Prince to 10k, the Pails to 5k, and the craftable Halloween weapons to 5 rare items each. That makes them expensive, but more achievable, and make up the difference by encouraging more players to try to go for them. Of course, it probably can’t be done now since players have likely already crafted these items; we’ll have to wait for next Halloween.
i totaly agree with this post and i am one of the players unwilling to jump through Anets hoops and waste this much time and effort for so little reward i want mini prince thorn but at 20k candy corn thats around 120 g from the tp to get that much candy witch i just stupid for something seasonal with no value in game so yes the end result is im not spending any candy on anything this year its going in my bank till next year
Who’s to say they won’t increase recipes by 10 times again next year!
The ability to upgrade candy corn to Candy Corn Cobs will remain after November 11.
However, I believe it was stated that the ability to upgrade chattering skulls, nougat centers and plastic fangs to their expensive counterparts will be removed. This makes these items worthless for the rest of the year, until next Halloween when the upgrade ability (hopefully) returns. Which is not guaranteed.

This is what I’ve started doing. You get the crafting materials and food fairly commonly from these bags, and sometimes recipes. Maybe there is a chance for the concentrated versions as well.
Btw, the best deal is 8 personalized trick or treat bags for 50 candy corn.

That doesn’t help at all because it keeps candy corn in the economy. It’s either in someone’s bank or in the TP.

This does take candy corn out of the economy, but then has the side effect of adding more mats that likely won’t be used by a vast majority of the community. I would almost be willing to dump a ton of CC into this for the food though, if it were all nice high level buffs like dragon bash.
If the op was right you would see falling prices for Candy Corn (constant demand, increased supply), but the price of candy corn has remained stedy since the 17th and even increased a bit yesterday.

it spiked a couple coppers during the eat 50 daily.
I didnt even have any so I had to buy 50 for it :/, event so lackluster

The amount of CC for sale is steadily increasing according to that chart…

Yes but if people were not consuming it why would the price not fall? People are using the corn for something. It is being consumed.

You read it wrong, I believe. the amount listed for sale is at its lowest point since it was released. The amount ORDERED is increasing, which is quite frankly astounding to me.
The amount ordered can be misleading though, because gw2spidy also counts lowball orders like Candy Corn for, say, 3 copper that will never, ever be filled under current circumstances. It’s possible that the orders are there from people who are speculating that there will be a massive dump of Candy Corn after Halloween is over and are hoping to snap up cheap supplies when that happens.
Sell orders =/= supply, and buy orders =/= demand.
That being said, the price of candy corn has remained remarkably steady. Considering how easily it’s produced, all evidence points to the fact that it’s being consumed at the same rate it’s being produced (or else you’ll see a difference in prices.)
The candy corn economy is doing just fine.
it’s a shame really, a lot of people wanted the 20 slot pail and the mini prince though with the current prices, i for one don’t care at all for them once i saw how much i had to grind/spend. i’ve been buying and re-selling candy corn pieces for gold. if the prices were more reasonable i would have actually spent a lot more for getting those 20 slot pails for my other toons and would have bought the prince a couple of times.

4.8 million orders for candy corn have been placed for candy corn at or below the equilibrium price. There is clearly a desire for candy corn to be used in some fashion, why do you believe that people are dumping their stock on the TP if supply has not yet fulfilled the demand?

Whether the candy corn economy is messed up is entirely irrelevent because a holiday item having worth or not is meaningless.
What matters is whether the est event rewards are achieveable by the majority of players using nothing but the event items that they get from participating in the event this year.
And since the answer to that question no is no, we know Anet done screwed up.

You guys are right. Looks like candy corn IS selling. We’ll see how this turns out after the event is over and people cash in.

We still haven’t seen the mask. That will probably be the “free” event item from Mad King Says. That said, i think holiday events should have a mix of easy to obtain fun stuff and hard to get exclusive stuff.
I think they’re just desperate for gold sinks after all the duping and trade manipulation which has been going on since launch. Kind of sad that we all have to pay for the actions of a few bad apples instead of just having these individuals be punished for their selfish actions but I guess that’s the way it goes.
Though I would implore the powers that be to look into putting a higher emphasis on other currencies than gold. It would also be great if the best rewards were tied to personal accomplishments rather than any kind of currency which could easily be manipulated. I think we can all agree that the economy experiment has failed and that it’s time to bring fun back into the game. More farming isn’t the answer.
I think, like i said in the OP, in this case the best currency sink would have just been to put a variety of lower priced things on the market for candy corn. More fun for more people and it removes more from the economy.

This quote. Can this be everyone’s signature message? Holy kitten.

You have a source for that? Last I head everything but the pail and mad prince mini are gone after halloween.
I stopped doing the Halloween event because of the ludicrous cost of items in terms of candy corn.

Logged in just to +1 this.
It’s great that there is an economist who gets to play virtual central banker. He seems to be keeping inflation in check reasonably well. However, it is a kitten game and the basic premise of farm more gold to buy what you want off TP just isn’t fun.
