More Rounds of Mad King Says Please
It’s over already?
Just jumped in to see if the wife and kids n I could catch the tail end of Mad Kings says as we couldn’t do it yesterday (eg long work day) and it’s all over already… :/
Have to admit I’m left somewhat disappointed.
It would be much better if these events went longer so there’s a greater chance of working folk with kids to be able to participate in these singular activities…like have it run for 2 days rather than one, or create mini instances for accounts that don’t have the Title to access for a day or two after.
…maybe in the future , who knows?
Mad King Says was actually on the loop for 48 hours, from the 30th to today.
Release NotesMad King Thorn himself will arrive in Lion’s Arch on Halloween from 9 a.m. PDT on October 30 to 9 a.m. PDT on November 1. Laugh at his mad jokes and play his Mad King Says game!

That doesn’t help you now, unfortunately, but at least it’s something that’s being thought about! There’s a reason they’ve steered away from some of the super-restrictive timed events (Mad King erupting from Lion Statue, Karka invasion of LA, Ancient Karka battle,) and tried to make schedules more flexible for people who can’t be on at particular times. Mad King Says is still restricted to two/three days around Halloween, but it’s easier to catch it than last year, happily. (More frequent, I think? Not sure what the timer is.)
Yeah but its over now :| That’s not cool. I was working these days, and I didn’t even see this message….
So I guess I get to miss out on completing this years achiev because once again ANet has decided to screw those of us who have jobs. Great.
I work full time and go to college full time. I knew at the start when this event would be because they told us the dates and times for start and finish.
I did this event because I could – but before October I’d taken two months off this game to complete some projects of my own and I “missed out on” stuff and that was my choice.
I don’t think it makes sense that they should have to design content around the idea that a person is at work 24/7 for 48 hours in a row. That’s just not reality for the vast majority of people.
I understand the frustration of people who feel like they missed something. I know that after coming back from my two months off it kind of sucked to see all the stuff I missed and would never get to do. But that was my choice. If someone did have a job schedule where they worked 48 hours straight (hopefully with sleep breaks) during that event well, that’s life – you’re in that job and having that job means you’re going to miss out on some things, be it an event in GW2 or a sale at the mall – but presumably you’re in that job because you want to be and because you chose that path in life and willingly applied for that job. If you want out of it, I wish you the best of luck and hope you can do something like go back to school in order to find a schedule that better suits your priorities.
They posted the dates/times on both the release notes page and the official guide to the release, both of which went up Oct. 15, over two weeks ahead of Halloween. The release page doesn’t give a specific time for Mad King Says, but it does link to both the release notes and guide which do. Both of these pages showed up in the news feed on the account login screen that appears when you start the game. Basically, if you didn’t see the message, I’m not sure where you were looking.
I think 48 hours around Halloween is a very reasonable time for a holiday event that takes very little time to actually do, especially considering that’s the one thing with this Halloween that hasn’t been doable since day 2-3 of the release. Not everyone is going to be able to do it (Say, people who are traveling,) but that seems to be expected to me. If you’re busy on a holiday, you can’t go to a holiday party. In this case, it’s like the party has been going on for two weeks, and if you’re busy on the holiday, you just don’t get cake and ice cream, because that’s the time they announced they’d serve it at the start of the party. That’s hardly someone trying to screw you over, because they wanted one element to be actually on the holiday.
There’s a lot to criticize about this Halloween, but the schedule isn’t one of them. Anet’s been pretty upfront with the details of the schedule since it started, and it’s generally much less restrictive on when you have to do things than last year’s Halloween was.
I understand that it was well communicated, but I don’t follow the updates religiously. I missed it too, and am disappointed. Not mad, just disappointed. I understand that they want to restrict the time window for special events, but a weekend day would have been nice, as that’s when I usually play.
To add insult to injury, I am one point away from unlocking the sweet friend achievement and I thought the mad king would get me there. OK, nope, so what’s the daily? Oh crap, it’s the clock tower. Guess I wait another day.

I am in the same boat you are so I feel your pain.
Anet really failed with the design of basically every part of this holiday event imo.
From making an entire area with mobs that have too much hp, do too much damage and use too many debuffs, to content that is only available for too short a window, to a new game mode that favors the courtiers way too much, to rewards that require too much grinding of CC to acquire.

Agreed. No one, no matter how tight their schedule is, is busy for 48 hours straight and if they are, they’re probably not the kind of people who play MMORPGs. From the beginning of the event ANET stated when the Mad King would arrive and leave LA.
(I do not defend their other mistakes, though, such as the stupidly grindy method to obtain weapon skins. Reminds me of WoW).
All things considering, there was no reason to limit it to 2 days anyways. It goes on until the 11th – and its not like theres a power-reward for completing it. I just want the mask.
To add insult to injury, I was looking on the wiki to determine where/when the event was happening, not the patch notes. The wiki is still out of date though, and says it happens in the Grand Piazza. Not that I was available at the times it happened anyways. The entire week, including those two days – were super busy, and when I got off work – I passed out.
Yeah I know, boo hoo, sob story, wah wah wah. The fact of the matter is that they put the event on a short schedule. They gave us a month to do the regurgitated content from last year, and 2 days to do just one of the events that would have been more memorable for old/new players alike.
Always make a habit to read the patch notes after every update/patch.

Some people only play on the weekends. And I personally wanted to take a 48 hour break during that period…but had to log in to do this or lose out on it. Was fun for the three minutes it lasted.
