I love Lunatic Inquisition, but it seems every game I get into now people are spamming mad king says. It’s not really fair when a ghost can just sit back and spam that skill until you do the emote, get killed by the amount of times they can use it, or they catch up to you from the stun. At the moment it is way too OP, the game mode is fun, but getting killed from spam is annoying.

Yeah, and the ghost can get up 2 seconds later. Unless they’re allowing themselves to be hammered to death, that scenario always wins in the ghost’s favor.

To be honest, villagers can’t win. Ghost are just way too strong.
They kill you in 2-3 hits, they have fear, stuns, can force you to stop from long range. They have a legalized wallhack.

Doing that will eventually feed the ghost kills, that’s pointless.

Either CC, or kill (which is just longer cc) and keep running.

Villagers have to be very organized to win.

Ghosts just need to faceroll to win.

And it’s hardly hide n seek, it’s pretty much impossible to hide with nameplates giving everyone away.

Yeah, just run around in circles for 10 minutes waiting for my inevitable victory while getting a few kills here and there. Fun the first few times then becomes a chore. I was hoping they would’ve expanded or improved the minigame, it has potential. /shrug

Well, one of my goals is to die relatively quickly tbh. It’s more fun to play as the ghost (to me). Still it’s enjoyable to get a launch or two in on skill 2 before dying. Listing to them whine is just hilarious.

The idea is you stay away from the ghosts, if theres a wall between you and the ghost, it doesnt work (also it has a range on it.)

The idea is ghosts have their tools and villagers are just faster. The ghosts have more of an advantage because 1 good ghost can do wonders. The villagers have to stick together to survive, they can’t just go lone wolf.

Sometimes i get chained by more than five Mad kings says, so frustrating. I feel if the ghost did not manage to score the kill on one, he does not deserve the kill since this is a nearly guaranteed kill.

You can’t cancel Mad King Says animation by pressing Esc (i mashed it) and you can’t even dodge this (or the windows is very thin). The only conterplay is to spam stealth which recharged at each Mad king says and hope the ghosts are too dumb. I agree that ghost have an unfair advantage but still having a <press to perma stun> button is giving them victory ,period.

The only thing I really have a problem with this year (but honestly I still enjoy this activity the most), which maybe it’s just my memory being fuzzy or maybe the lunatics just know what they’re doing this year, the patrols and hammers don’t seem to do much this time around.

I vaguely recalled the imps in particular actually being a great defense, they could deal with a solo lunatic and it usually took a little later into the game where they had a better lunatic force to deal with the imps (at least 2 lunatics would have to deal with the patrols). I saw the veteran imp get summoned just as a lunatic came by and he just dropped like a wet noodle, he was instantly dead. The summons don’t really seem to matter this year.

It seems to be a similar case with the hammer. The only thing that works well is the knockback. The #1 is just a tickle at best.

Oh they can, but eventually they just give me kills. It’s the worst way to go about the game if you actually want to win as a villager unless the ghost is utter crap.

The Inquisition is designed to be a Last Man Standing style, so the odds are supposed to be weighted in the Lunatics’ favour. I do agree that the Mad King Says spamming is too unfair though; I made a suggestion in another thread that I think they should change it so that if the villager successfully performs the action, it kills the Lunatic who initiated it. (Mad King says, “For every winner, there’s a loser, and it can’t be me, so it must be you, my courtier!”) This makes using the MKS a calculated gamble, best used when the Lunatic thinks he’s close enough to close the distance and kill the villager before they can finish the action.

As far as the villager tactics is concerned, you can either try to run off alone and hide somewhere, or group up for survival. This is especially handy if you can keep the ghosts to only a few members, when you can just gang up on the ghosts and use CC skills to keep them from acting while you kill them (and afterwards you run off again).

I’ve seen the Ripper once, but never found it myself. Where does it spawn?

The way I see it, it’s an attrition skill: You might survive a few uses, but eventually, in a one-on-one situation, the ghost will kill you if you don’t manage to shake him off your tail. That’s why you start with one ghost. What lots of people fail to realize is a ghost can only lock down one person at a time. If you stick together, you can achieve a lot.

Because of this I have much more of an issue with people purposely dying at the start. The difference between having one ghost for 3 minutes until he gets his first kill and having 2-4 ghosts at the start of the game because of griefers or achievement farmers is absolutely ridiculous and soul-crushing to experience.

That, and ghosts used that ‘4’ key on their keyboard much more skillfully, and made use of teamwork and radar on a regular basis. Ghosts laid traps because they had to under some circumstances to stop a mob of roving torch villagers with skeleton backup. This year, the ghosts don’t have to. They can just spam 6-0 keys until the target keels over and dies or they catch up with said target. It’s pretty much the only way for the vast majority of disorganized ghost teams to get kills now, and there’s also a point reward for it to boot.

Yep, it spawns at your feet… And that thing is awesome… I had no idea what was happening, picked up that ripper and sawed that ghost right in two! If anything, a ghost that respawns shouldn’t respawn where he died, but at the Mad King. That way you actually have a chance to get away..

This isn’t last man standing. In a true last man standing game there is a measure of balance between each side where if there is a timer that you have to survive to, you are actually given the tools needed to survive that timer so that if each side is made up of equally competent players then there is a 50% chance of either side achieving victory. Balance in this case is vitally important because there has to be an equal oppurtunity for both sides to achieve victory.

The other type of last man standing can be either balanced or imbalanced and the victory condition is simply be the last person alive. However even in those games there needs to at least be some sort of quasi balance because no player wants to feel like the outcome of the game (ie the person who manages to survive until the end) is determined essentially by random chance (the other side just happened to go after everyone else).

Guild Wars 2 LI is the first type of last man standing which requires balance in order to function. The problem however is that it lacks any measure of balance. Ghosts have a ridiculous number of abilities they can spam which have devastating results on the villagers (including an ability which is both an aoe fear and a teleport on an extremely short cooldown) while the villagers are completely disadvantaged against the ghosts as they have no functional abilities, their run speed gets severely reduced if they throw anything at the ghost (which only would have a 2-3 second CC anyways making it pretty much useless) and they die in just a couple of hits. And unlike the ghosts that respawn with full health after a few seconds, villagers only get one life and an hp pool that doesn’t autoregenerate, not to mention the problem that ghosts get perma speed boosts as they kill more villagers but villagers see their speed nerfed when a ghost uses an ability on them or they throw something at a ghost.

The fact that a villager’s location also gets telegraphed to the entire map if they pass a certain part of the map almost seems trivial given how imbalanced the game is anyways. The problem with villager’s getting disconnected if they try hiding (which is really the only way to win as a villager) is another problem that disadvantages villagers against ghosts. Their one best weapon causes villagers to get disconnected.

In order for this game to truly be a fully functional last man standing game either ghosts need to be severely nerfed or villagers need to be severely buffed in some way either by giving them functional skills, not decreasing their speed at any time, giving them secret safe areas on the map that they can get to via hidden sections of the wall that ghosts can’t pass through (which are randomized between games so ghosts can’t camp them) or something.

I don’t know if I even need to mention how ineffective the patrols are and how they cost way too much treasure to bring out.

That’s what I’ve been noticing. You’re dead if you don’t, and you’re dead if you do.

Then again, anything that makes the Courtier half of the game go by faster is great, because playing as Courtier is very boring.

Upon reflection, I have to agree with some of the suggestions here for balancing the two sides more evenly. Tilting the balance in the Lunatics’ favour just encourages people to suicide so they can be on the “winning team”.

I’d make the following 3 changes:

1. Standing on the Portals no longer reveals villager locations to the Lunatics. This makes hiding a much more viable survival tactic, although experienced Lunatics can still check popular hiding spots. To compensate for this in early parts of the game where there are only one or two Lunatics (and thus can’t cover as many areas), there are more Mad King walls throughout the maze that broadcast villager locations like an alarm when they run past.

2. If a Lunatic is killed by a villager, they respawn back at the Mad King. This gives villagers who band together and fight a fighting chance rather than the ghosts just res-zerging at the same location.

3. If a Lunatic uses Mad King Says on a villager, and the villager correctly performs the action, the Lunatic is killed (and respawns back at the Mad King). Consider it the Mad King’s “prize” to the villager for winning the game. This makes using MKS a calculated gamble, to be used when the Lunatic thinks the villager is close enough that he can kill him before he can finish performing the action.

Maybe it dont remember well enough from last year but it seemed to be on a longer cool down last year.

I play a game yesterday where I was being chased by 5 ghosts and they all used mad king says on me. Whatever, i’m outnumbered, not a good chance I get out of that; BUT apparently they stack, so I failed all 5 at the same time.

Love this skill. I go in to the ghost starting. (Usually a noob) Hit him a few times with hammer for points. Then die. Then I find a villager and spam Mad king says to point farm. kill him off and next one. I get like 400-500 points a game like that Poor villagers.
