Okay, i am farming Kite Fortunes. Get like 5 per day. Yeah 5. And when I open them I get only like 1-4 fortune scraps… Is that normal? Becouse I really dont enjoy doing this grind.

I actually agree with you that the drop rate is quite lame. Some people are getting them from WvW but I’ve not had the same luck. I got around 50 scraps in a week from just leveling my guardian and picking up the basket drops.

i farmed enough scraps to buy 2 helmets and 2 skins (the green ones).

so this is how i did it:

- doing events: there are some events that occur every few minutes. one of those is the Harpy Event near the intrance into Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon. This event starts every 5 minutes and scales really good if there are more than 2 players. Here you can get about 1-3 Kite Fortunes per event if you use high Magic Find.

- doing WvW: zerg with the zerg, what can be fun, and open the loot bags, there are kite fortunes in it.

- buy: you can also buy the loot bags in the marketplace. the kite fortunes drop from all of them (tiny up to heavy), so you can buy the cheapest ones.

Just go to Cursed Shore and do events like Melandru and Gates of Arah. I have 277% mf and I get like 5 or more Kite Fortunes per event. They drop almost as often as piles of putrid essence.

Don’t mean to derail the thread.. but what are you using to get 277% MF? I’m thinking about creating a set just now sure what I need to aim for.

I’ve found way more luck opening more than a few at a time. Every time I opened 1 to 5, I only get 1,2 or 4 scraps each, usually 1 or 2.

However, when I saved up and opened 44, I got 3 that had 50 each in them. So, I got 150 plus another 41 with other scrap counts and ended up with around 235 scraps just from those 44.

Pro tip: collect bags and open multiple kites at one time. I know Heavy loot bags have a very good rate of kites in them (get most from wvw for me anyway). I think it was medium loot bags that also gave me quite a few. I’m unsure of trinket bags, icy bags, bags of booty, etc).

Results for me: $0 spent in gem store with approximately 100 kits opened so far = 442 fortune scraps so far. 250 scrap prize, 150 scrap prize, 4 extra zephyr boxes = thank you, Anet!

I’m guessing he has most of this list except the ascended items, only using Omnomberry Bars, etc.

I was doing map completion in Snowden Drifts last night, and got somewhere around 15-20 fortunes in ~2 hours time. Every other zone (and I’ve been in a lot of them since the patch), with an equivalent time investment, I’m lucky to get 3-4 fortunes. Either way, the drop rate is pretty low.

I’m running around Queensdale fighting centaurs and other things that drop bags with 164% MF, and I’m not getting anything. I’ve run the sprint about 70 times with no back piece.

MF just doesn’t work for me. I always get the RNG rolls that allow you folks to get your good rolls and say, “MF is great!”

Sure hope I get a back before it’s over. I’m not going to spend gold on it like I did the wings. I don’t think I like it enough to eat into my ‘saving for legendary’ fund. If I get it, I get it.

But I sure don’t seem to get kites or scraps or back pieces. And don’t get me started on my MF and T6 materials.

MF works but remember, Fortune kites are rare. The increase you get from an already low drop rate is still perceptibly low. MF works well when it upgrades whites to blues and blues to greens (I almost never get a white when in my MF setup).

As for these fortunes, best advice is to kill densely packed mobs in the lowest level zones that you can kill with 1 shots. Even yellow mobs drop them so keep that in mind when looking for a farm spot.

oh my …are you saying Heavy moldy bags hold kite fortunes?

OMG ( in squealy voice) I think I may tell the boss my leg fell off and I have to go home now ..

I think it may just be the bags from WvW that give kites.

I’ve opened around 100+ heavy moldy bags since the event started and haven’t got a kite from them.

They drop from bags. (Not sure if they even drop from the players themselves)

Also, open the bags in a low-population zone. This worked for me with the jade tickets. Opened in Citadel and got 2 tix. Made me mad I didn’t get this tip until I’d already opened 2000 coffers with 0 tix.

Pretty sure that’s just RNG at work. I got two of my Jade Tickets from opening coffers in the heavy populated Lion’s Arch.

Did a buy order for 100 heavy bags, for about 4 gold and 23s in total, and ended up with 13 kite fortunes, made some of my money back from selling the mats as well.

Nah, they don’t, they only come from Heavy Loot Bags afaik.

Has there been any official word on how long Fortunes will be dropping as loot? I need to know if I’ll have to resort to buying Catchers off the TP or if I’ll have a couple more weeks to get my own.

so I ended up using the money I got from my 5k chest and bought a total of 300 Heavy Loot Bags off black lion in 100 bag chunks. All I had for boosters was magic find booster. On average I got 15-20 kite fortunes. Didn’t keep track too much but I had around 56 scraps before all this. After going through those 300 bags and all the kite fortunes I was around 245 and last 2 fortunes I farmed for a few hours.. Maybe it’s just a bad RNG for me or something. On the plus side I got plenty of mats now

Ah ok. I got the (wrong) impression people were talking about PvE bags.

I’m getting a ton of kite fortunes in WvW (bags dropped from dead players). In the past 3 days I have gotten 146 fortune scraps from WvW alone.

I’m pretty sure MF doesn’t have an impact on drops of kite fortunes. MF only serves to upgrade the rarity of an item drop. The type of item is determined first and the rarity depends on your MF level. Since kite fortunes are just one level of rarity, using magic find should make no difference to how many you get whatsoever.

I farmed around 50-60 scraps from random mob kills and then just bought like 200 or so heavy loot bags. Got lucky with 1 single Kite Fortune giving 50 scraps. Bought the Sunbro helm.

Not sure if kite fortunes are treated as rare for MF. They do come in the those little chests, when mobs drop them, and I have, personally, noticed more kite fortune drops with higher magic find.

Still not getting more than 1-2 scraps per kite. I officially hate this living story and RNG in this game.

Yeah. I’ve opened at least a few dozen kite fortunes now altogether, and all of them only had 1-5 fortune scraps, usually 2-3. I’m glad I got lucky and got my windcatcher skins from the race and that I have no interest in the helm.

I lucked out and got a golden ticket from a kite in orr, then got 2 50’s in a row. Of course I’ve opened up way too many of those things to get 1 scrap per :P

I have been spending it, but I have collected approximately 350 scrap. I have no Magic Find and did not go out of my way farming or hunting down parachutes. I got most by killing random mobs as I roamed from place to place.

My way of getting them was to go and spend all the karma I had (around 150k at the time) on Lost Orrian Jewellery Boxes. Sold everything that I could sell that came out of those. Spent the money (a couple of gold) on Heavy Loot Bags. Opened those. Sold everything that came out of them. Bought more. Kept on doing that until I had a stack of kite fortunes and no more gold left, then I opened all of them and ended up with one golden scrap and enough normal scraps to buy the three catcher skins, as I didn’t really have any interest in the helms.

In my head, I bought them with karma that I wasn’t really using anyway.
