Hellfire Armor vs Achievement progression!
And the point is?
And the point is?
It’s kind of obvious by reading and a little thought. He thinks the new armor pieces are too high in achievement point requirement for the average gamer in gw2.
1) not a few years, maybe one
2) the living story gives so much achievment points, if they’d only do the story every month they’d most likely get to 9k in under a year
There are plenty of cool looking armor sets that new players can choose.I think its selfish to ask for something you can’t get immediatly.I think its a great reward for people who played this game longer and players who are dedicated to the game.
TL;DR-You are not entitled to it
wow something you actually got to earn with time and effort. i truly have no problem with it seeing i have enough to get the first but will take me months to get the next
New players will have to grind for legendary more than at the game launch because ingredients are more expensive now. MAKE LEGENDARIES EASIER TO OBTAIN!!!

I’ve been playing the game casually for a year now (well a year in august) and almost have 6.5k achievements and will have 3 pieces of the armor (i’m going for Radiant because it’s shiny), i fail to see how it’ll take you “a few years” to get there, especially if you are a hard core player, i know one of my friends has like 9k or something ridiculous like that.
Not every piece or gear should be stupid easy to obtain, it makes it not as meaningful, i mean cmon, look at CoF gear, EVERYONE has that gear, it went from being “That really cool armor!” to “That Armor that proves you know how to zerg”

More give me naow attitude. That isn’t what an MMO is. With very little effort a new player reaches the same stat line as a player that has been here since the beginning and has access to all the same content almost immidiately after reaching level 80. (IMO acsended gear represents a negligable difference.)
This is much different then an MMO with a vertical gear treadmil. You could reach max level and still leagues away from other players with tons of content gated by gear and unlocks that you can’t even access.
As of right now there are very few things that take any significant amount of effort to aquire in game. Those things would be Legendaries, Acended items, and now a few armor skins.
I for one am greatful for a few things that vetran players can be proud of achieving. And for the record I only have just over 3k points.
Yeah let me just point something out…
The ones that have enough achievement points to get the rewards already worked for their points for almost a year. It is only fair that new players go and work for it, just like everyone else.

Seriously and Honestly, you really have a problem if you complain about something free.
Sure next you’ll complain about the sun being to bright or water making grass grow to fast
I think its great that they are trying to improve a game and some ppl still not happy.
Honestly I can tell I have all the Precursor’s Gifts about 7 and some months now and not luck about precursor itself but I’m still happy to play.
I am at 3100 points and have 6 weeks of play so no it won’t take “a few years”.

The exception always proves the rule.
so what you’re saying is:

I’m pretty sure the “will take years” isnt referencing actual play time. It only makes logical sense that he means years will pass in real life… that being said, i think it makes perfect sense that they are putting the armor skins on the high end of the achievement ladder. For people like me, I’ve been playing since launch but someone who started playing 3 weeks ago who has no life can have all the same armor and weapons skins i do. its better for the vets.
I have 380 hours of play and 2600 achievement points. I haven’t “farmed” achievement, I just play and have fun. My guess is that in two or three months I’ll get to 5000 at my pace of playing.
I only do the 5 dailies and 4 monthlies, no JP, very few fractals, no sPvP, just starting to complete all the dungeons and I skip the LS that I don’t like (pirates, I’m looking at you). I bet I could get a lot more achievements if I farmed for them.
I’ve been playing since the pre-release beta and I only have 1,200 because I couldn’t really play during school.
I DON’T CARE.
So what. The skins will be there when I get there.
MMOs in general are not the kind of game where you should expect to max in a week and get literally EVERYTHING possible. What’s the point ?
Keep playing, you’ll get it eventually – if it takes years, so what ? It’s not like it’s the only armour in the game and you have to run around naked otherwise.

i couldn’t agree more. GW2 pretty much hands you lvl 80 and its very simple to get max gear. why shouldn’t they add a few things in that it takes time and effort to get? it makes end game more interesting. More things other than a legendary to strive for.
Honestly? I hoped new armors to start from 5k ap, or even higher. The skin doesn’t feel unique if 3/4 of the server will have it.

Wait for the 9000 pts chest. Suddenly you will see a lot less people with the helmet.
Yeah, personally I’m hoping for them to put rewards at even higher levels. The whole point was that everyone gets roughly the same stats and then you work towards aesthetics. This is the first time in my whole playtime that I’ve felt like I was working towards earning something that wasn’t locked behind RNG or dungeon spamming. Absolutely delighted with the new achievement system, and would be even if some skins were actually a few years of play to get (so long as that was years of fun).
Yeah, 9000 points is completely out of line. Playing since launch and I only have 2500.
The argument that it’s supposed to be something you achieve is immediately invalid because you don’t really ‘achieve’ something in a video game. It’s just an arbitrarily big number that I now have to grind.
So The first piece of Hellfire armor cost 3k Achievement points progression to unlock, for a new players, they are easy to reach lvl80 within a week but if they want to get the armor skin they will have to play gw2 few months to unlock the first piece armor. By look at the achievement summary my guess the 2nd piece will cost 6k and the last piece probably cost 9k….With this ridiculous cost new players will need few years completing daily for few achievement point from completed each objectives!
i guess its not intended to be for new players…
long time players want goals too!!

Not everything is meant for new players. Maybe look up the word Achievement and try again.
This isn’t the welfare system it is the achievement system.

Highest is currently just under 12k. It’s not quite physically possible to be at the max amount of AP due to WvW and sPvP achievements being nigh impossible (at least this far into the game. In about 10 years, it would be realistic for people to have them all).
Honestly? I hoped new armors to start from 5k ap, or even higher. The skin doesn’t feel unique if 3/4 of the server will have it.
50% of all players have between 0 and 1100 AP.
90% of all players have between 0 and 3400 AP.
9% of all players have between 3400 and 8000 AP.
1% of all players have between 8000 and 12000 AP.

I’ve been playing since launch and have 7600. I don’t play hardcore, nor have I done every daily/monthly.
You don’t have to grind to get to high AP. In fact, just playing the game how you want to play it will reward you with AP, eventually. Unless you just sit in LA waiting for your inventory to grow, you will reach these higher AP, in time. Don’t just think that since you’ve been playing since launch that you deserve all the skins.
I know that I’m not going to get the helm for a while. I’m fine with that, I don’t really care about getting it that badly, since I already have 8 unique armor sets on my main. I already know what the 9th will look like. I don’t really want to start planning my 10th around Radiant… at least not just yet.
My concern is that there’s no way to pass 4k+ AP being a pvplayer. I’ve been playing since launch, both PVE and PVP (mainly PVP since November), and I’m sitting on 4k AP. Now, the only way to get the pvp version of the set is via PVE (just like the past events: Adventure Box, F&F story jetpack, Dragon Festival skins, and the new Baazar items), since PVP AP’s are faulty and hard to come by. Just a lame system if you ask me.

I do agree. Not including the PvP achievement tab, PvP’ers get about 1/5 the AP of a PvE’er on a daily basis.
If we count in the available AP from achievements, it gets even more unfair.
For the record: APs are not as easy to come by as some people make it seem. The sum total of all Living Story/Special Event APs is 1525. If you have every single PvE achievement the game offers other than Living Story/Special Event, that’s a base of 4226. I’m not sure about PvP, but I know WvW has a pitiful maximum of 891, and nobody’s come close because those achievement tracks are ridiculous. The rest is dailies and monthlies. Anyone can do that. If you’ve been a dedicated player since launch you’ll probably have around 3000 AP from those.
It would not be incorrect to describe achievement rewards past 6-7,000 as bonuses for regularly logging in since launch. Once you max out your PvE AP, you only gain significant amounts of points by doing Living Story (anywhere from 100 to 400 AP per month, though this is starting to creep higher with rapid releases) and dailies/monthlies (likely 250 per month).
This means, once you hit 6,000 AP for a shoulder skin, it will take 4-5 months until you unlock a helm skin. Most dedicated grinders take less time than that to acquire a legendary weapon. I don’t think these are going to be “goals” for people to go for: right now, they’ll just be rewards for veteran players, and in the future, they’ll be an incidental bonus you pick up once in a while. I have 4.3k AP; personally, I’ll be much prouder of my legendary when I finish it than my shiny gauntlets, because something like that is a much better indication of my dedication and achievement in this game than wearing “Masterful Achiever” under my name.
I don’t know, I was just over 6K when they started the daily chest rewards and now I’m closing in on 6500. That’s under a week. True, I’ve been working on the event achieves and I do the dailies to level a character, but I also take time to RP, so the rate seems pretty fast.
These rewards weren’t meant to be unlocked in a week. You guys know this, right? These are always going to be available as players hit these AP tiers. If you see yourself playing this game for at least a few more years, you have nothing to worry about. And if you don’t see yourself playing this game after a year or more, then it won’t matter anyway.

On one side, everyone wants to be able to unlock new, preferably cool and unique gear by getting more achievement points but on the other side people don’t want gear to be beyond their reach. Well, though luck, it’s an achievement reward system so there’ll ALWAYS be gear and other rewards beyond your reach. If not hellfire/radiant armour skins, then what do we agree to give to people who have far more AP than us? I don’t think this is a useful discussion tbh cause whiners will never agree with a reward they themselves can’t get for lack of AP. The forums are already full of “I can’t get it so it’s too expensive” threads.
