By making Celestial Gear the only way to get it is through temporary content quartz it will be the only way to get my favorite set, I serious would reconsider not adding this as a permament way in some way.
Not only that, the recipes are temporary as well!

I had no problem with living story until now, you can’t even get these in fractals. Why isn’t this in WvWvW or Fractals? All time low Anet.

You can purchase Quartz from the trading post for ~50c. That means that one full set of armor is 75s before counting the other materials (ore, silk, etc).
Honestly I’d rather have a way to reliably get quartz opposed to no way at all (like snowflakes). I just wish that the charged quartz was not soulbound (or you could charge quartz more than 1/day even if it was at a different place of power), as it’s silly that this is the only armor set that is time locked for those that like the stats.

I know, that was my point. I’m saying I would rather have access to quartz after the zone is gone (either by completing the meta or from buying it off the AH from people who completed the meta, thus keeping prices down) instead of having a limited supply that you have to wait a year to replenish (like snowflakes). I doubt I’ll use either stat set but it’s better for people who do want them to have easier access.

Did the devs say that already?. I had the impression that the whole area would be off limits once the event is over.

Because that would be great. I mean, if the quartz nodes don’t go away with the ship, since it seems that they are “grown” by the zephyrites, based on some dialogues between npcs.
The place is really close to the Crystal Desert and sorta close to the Elon River, so it gives me much hope that Elona will soon be available (eh, a girl can dream).

They should just turn the node in the home instance into a rich vein.
I wouldn’t even care about this meta achievement if it wasn’t a permanent quartz node. It’s annoying too, because it seems that about half of 16 achievements I’ll need will require going to those obscure jumping puzzles, since Belcher’s Bluff and Sanctum Sprint are not fun to do.
At least every character gets the node (so I’m told), but I can only mine it once a day, so…meh. Still, as Iavra said, it could get more expensive later. I noticed that happened to Azurite, and now I wish they had given us a permanent node of that too.

That would only happen if you didn’t play this event, which then you wouldn’t have the home node in the first place. I’ve already got 3 charged crystals from making one every night so far, and a couple stacks of quartz without really trying, just getting the parachute pilferer achievement wandering aimlessly through zones gives you a ton since in my experience it’s 1-3 quartz per parachute. Plus mining the 5-6 nodes in cliffs while you’re out there doing other things. Lastly, they’re super cheap on the trading company right now, so if anyone, even someone brand new to the game, wanted to stock up, they probably wouldn’t have much difficulty.
The bigger problem I see isn’t quartz acquisition, it’s how lame it is to make the charged crystals. One per day? Hopefully that gets upped after the event is over. I like being able to make my armor on demand, not wait 30 days for just armor. (More if you plan on exotic accessories/rings/amulet instead of getting ascended). That said, the stats honestly aren’t that great. It’s for hybrid builds, and probably will only really benefit a hybrid elementalist. So in the grand scheme of things, probably not that big a deal. Lame, sure, not life ending.

They’re only expensive because you can’t craft them: you have to get lucky with the mystic toilet (and then it’s soulbound, I believe), or find something with one in it, and get lucky on a salvage.

Perhaps I’ve been insanely lucky but I’ve received 1 charged crystal every time I harvested from the home instance one. Either way the heavy loot bags / most loot bags in general all have a chance of dropping quartz crystals.

I don’t understand how this is “forced.” Anet doesn’t release this stuff and say “by the way, if you don’t do any of it you’ll be significantly behind in progression and rewards.” If you don’t want to do it, then buy the materials off the TP. Instead of enjoying new content for free, people would rather complain about it.

I would imagine that it is very frustrating for Anet to keep giving new content for free only to be hit with a barrage of whines EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This is not forced. Reward x depends on condition y. If you don’t want to do y, then you don’t get x. If you want x badly enough, you will do y.

There are 7 kites scattered in jumping puzzles. One is on top of the dome of the arena in the Obsidian sanctum (has skritt guarding it). If you get all seven, it gives you an 8th achievement that counts, IIRC – so that’d be half the achievements for the meta without going in.
If you go to the Main Haven HQ in Lion’s arch, there’s a instance you can view that gives an achievement at the second story.
Just going to the cliffs is another achievement.
Diverse Trader is an easy grab – zone in via the boat, go forward, and when you reach the waterfall bridge, turn right – there’s six or so merchants that will sell Zephyr boxes for crafting mats – talk to all of them.
Grabbing baskets in the normal zones – click one, it spawns 2 bags – need sixty bags. Bags are grabbed by the “account” but again, reset with server reset.
Mine all the nodes – and make charged quartz at “commune” skill points (one per day, day ends at server reset). do this 8 times and there is another.
There’s one for talking to six NPCs there, also one for just talking to the Sanctum Sprint NPC (don’t even have to start a race).
They can add up quite easily if you want.

I am imagining, obviously, that after commandeering a sky merchant ship in order to pursue some thieving sky pirates (who have kidnapped Kiel and Gnashblade’s genetically-engineered love child), our intrepid characters discover a formerly unknown land filled with mighty dinosaurs, flying reptiles, and giant cave asura who wield great spears in combat (on dry land!). This long forgotten land is threatened by creatures from an alternate plane of existence buried deep within the dreams of the giant cave asura, from whence they sometimes erupt when a giant cave asura has a nightmare, to ravage the land and its inhabitants. The giant cave asura, using their primitive but nonetheless quite powerful asuran brains, have devised assorted means of preventing themselves from falling into dream-filled slumber (such as using peanut butter filled pillows), but this is turning them into terrible grumps, making them almost as much a threat to the world as the dream plane creatures!
*New crafting material: oozite, a highly volatile substance which oozes from the ears of giant cave asura suffering from self-inflicted insomnia.
*New features include: oozite-powered ski boots for skimming across liopleurodon-infested waters.
*New mini-game: transported inside the mind of a sleep-deprived giant cave asura, the players must compete with one another to master the art of brain-wave riding in order to quell an invasion of dream plane creatures!
Obviously, that’s the obvious next step in the story!

I typed a rant but decided Nilkemia covered my point nicely.
Good thread. Too much time being wasted on silly jumping puzzles that seem to need pinpoint accuracy when there are nasty monsters infesting the land begging to be killed
If anybody from Anet is actually reading this with any interest or intentions of taking feedback on-board, remember that a lot of your players like PVE. Just PVE. Not PvP, WvW or Jumping
Anyway, off to kill some Trolls or maybe treat myself to an Imp Lord

Yeah it is, I’ve gotten a few stacks from loot bags so far. You can also get fortunes from them. So go kill everyone in sight.
Though it’s by far more profitable to farm pve for this. I’ve done a comparison and you end up with roughly twice the amount of kite fortunes in pve. I don’t mind I’ve got a few weeks at least to kill as many people as possible.
You don’t want to do a thing, you don’t get the reward for doing the thing. Since there are people who WILL do the thing there should be a steady flow on the TP even after the possibility to get the node is over.
Honestly, I’m a dirty rotten casual and I already have the meta done I don’t see what the big deal is. I didn’t do a single jumping puzzle – I got the “Poor Man’s Kite” and didn’t even actually need that (since I’ll get the 8/8 Charged Quartz in a few days) which doesn’t require any jumping at all.
6 of the 16 are complete “Freebies” – all you have to do is show up. After that another 6 are “Easy” and don’t require to you actually be skilled at anything – you do something so many times or you go to the right place (no actual JPs required). That means that only FOUR of these require you to do something that actually requires raw skill or low latency. And you get to pick which ones.
Yeah, it’s “forced” in that if you want a Reward you need to do something to get it. I don’t really see a problem with that.

The only class that gains a clear cut benefit from celestial gear is Ele, and even then people will debate it. Guardians also to a lesser extent can gain some benefit from it, but even then it’s debatable on if it’s worth sacrificing the advantages of a more focused set.
Personally I can’t stand wasted stats, so I prefer a more focused set.

ponders Celestial Radiant Armor of Divinity Yeah, that’d be 100% gratuitous.
As they say, the jack of all trades IS master of none – the stat variety is tempting, but not practical in most cases. (Doesn’t stop me from wanting an ascended amulet with Celestial stats. But that’s because it’s an AWESOME amulet, more than its stats.)
Anyway. To the original topic at hand: between the nodes in the Bazaar, the awards from Sanctum Sprint, the contents of suppl crates or whatewver they’re called, and all the Kite Supplies on the overworld, you can get a lot of quartz
Second: The permanent node in the home instance may only be usable once daily, but it has a chance at rare results of “5 Quartz” or “1 Charged Quartz” – I have personally gotten both to happen (I got 3 quartz and a charged the first night I had the item, and 8 quartz the second time). Getting a Charged Quartz from the node is in addition to manually charging one up for that day!
