Oceanix [OCX]
Sanctum of Rall
Next time it may be a fantastic idea to get people with high latency to check you’re work. I have died 10 times on the same jump because every time I use assisted jump I rubber band back down half way and then fall off the edge because I don’t have enough time to make it back to where I started.
Maybe it’s time you actually put together a good testing team rather than in house testing, because its these simple things at the end of the day that are going to kill you. You can have the most fantastic product in the world but if it is loaded with small annoyances it wont sell.
OMFG finally found a thread on this I thought it was bugging out as all hell but that explains it….It is LITERALLY impossible to complete the lessons in the sky achievement where you collect sky crystals because all the automated lightning pull effects etc make me over shoot every….kittening…..time! Anet I’m begging you fix this kitten before I kill somebody
You wont get anything with this thread other then rants. However Living in Australia, it does get annoying when using Light pull, and realizing that even though your screen showed that u made it, 1 sec later ur back at checkpoint because of latency issues.
Just had a few rounds of Sanctum Spirit and with the constant rubberbanding I could barely finish the thing, let alone actually place.
Safe to say, unless they get lucky, I doubt many oceanic players are going to get that place first achievement.
I second this … please fix the issue of the overextended automated lightning pulls, it’s extremely aggravating to fall off every single time coupled with the waypoint costs :/
I am also facing this issue. Most people in US thought its nice but they dont have lag. This mini game is not welcome us to enjoy.
The idea behind the whole thing is pretty interesting, unfortunately its more frustrating than anything when you get overshot with #3 and rubberband all over the place with #2
I can deal with the dash because I turn it off early. I do everything early in this game because that’s the only way it works: dodges, blocks, jumps, whatever.
Their automatic bloody skill however is such a horrible waste of time and keystrokes. Whether I target it manually or use the ‘get to next platform’ version it will throw me off more often than not. The key appears to be to position yourself so that, if you’re lucky, you’ll hit an object and stop instead of sailing over the other side or bouncing off the edge.
In other news, never ever buying another MMO designed to be played on local connexions from a company who clusters all the servers in only two places worldwide.
Why do I have to live in America or Europe to finish content? This is completely stupid, I have never been so frustrated with game mechanics in my life.
I came here to make a post about this. Playing from Australia for this kitten event is a exercise in frustration. I have spent the last 40 min trying to do the crystal on the left side when u exit the ship and the 3 crystals on the right side near the water. Its impossible as 3 will constantly overshoot the target area or just drop u through the platform.
So I think I’ve got 28/40 crystals now. Between the usual camera ‘fun’, semi-functional skills w/ rubber-banding, and horrible movement controls while jumping, this has been easily the most unpleasant thing I’ve ever done in a game.
I’m not going to do the rest. If I want to play a jumping game, there’s loads of them that aren’t rubbish knock-offs inside something totally unsuited to being one.
I completed this achievement rather quickly and I live in Victoria, Australia. So please stop complaining.
I think the issue stems here with connections that have greater than 300ms latency, as the jumps themselves might not be exactly dynamic and parabolic – rather the code is designed with a leap height and a range in mind. This creates issues when you’re jumping areas that are not level, and are of different elevations, as the data needed that is pointed at your screen might not be the same data needed to jump the distance and land on that other platform.
If you have an engineer, try using rifle 5 in place of leaps if the distance is less than 900, as the leap of Jump Shot is rather consistent and not that dependent in terms of latency.
I noticed this during the SAB jumping mushrooms. Often my camera would simply not show where I was. I’ve hated all content involving jump pads ever since then. The latency doesn’t keep up with the movement speed.

Well as long as this random is okay, all is well.
Oh wait, nevermind, this changes absolutely nothing for scores of people trying to work with a skill that only functions under some unknown ideal circumstances that frequently aren’t feasible in practice. Carry on then.

Or ok 1 person probably with a very good connection and therefore good ping managed this stuff. so lets ignore all the rest of the people struggling cause the kitten jumps wont land where u target. This is not a skill issue. This is a problem with some skills (specifically 3) not working properly with lag in the range of 300+ ms.

I haven’t made it so far into the patch yet so I won’t comment directly on what people are saying.
What I will say is that most Oceanics have managed to compensate for our 300ms ping times with the way we approach most online games.
That said if there is no feasible way to compensate for the activities that developers have in place for those that have a 300ms ping, developers really need to look at this and consider.
Oceanics asked for a Oceanic server, which we never got. Lets not punish the oceanics further.

I don’t think it’s solely ping. Sometimes, very rarely, it’ll work precisely as it should in spite of the latency. Also a lot of people saying they had problems with it in /map, while not near the servers, weren’t nearly as far away as I am. Of course I doubt the latency helps at all either.
As far as the actual skill goes, whether you can compensate really depends. You don’t control when it ends, so your options are basically: go closer/further away from the target area depending on whether it overshoots or falls short (obviously not an issue if you’re landing on something big and can aim elsewhere on it, but very often the things you’re aiming for are tiny, like a beam of wood); approach from a different angle such that you may hit something and be stopped; keep repeating it and eventually, if you’re lucky, it’ll work normally.
This is only with the targeted version, as well. Sometimes the automatic version which swaps in to take you directly from one point to another along a place people will frequently be jumping, sort of like a pathway, will have the same problem. Less, I think, because it’s usually between larger platforms or entire chunks of scaffolding-island-stuff. In this case you can’t aim it at all, and you’ll need to either avoid that starting point, or if you can’t (small platform for instance) after a bit of jiggling around I eventually got the skill to swap back (not sure if through movement or just waiting) and used the targeted version instead.
I’m not entirely confident that ANet is:
A. Aware they’re making a game that requires an online connection.
B. understanding the limitations of thier game engine.
I tried this event last night and it is unplayable. The mechanics of these are too dependent on connection speed. We’ve seen this before. The “jump pads” in the SAB and AR suffer from this same issue.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure what my options are. Unless ANet can do something about this, I can’t see how I can participate in any of content that requires these mechanics.
I really have to give ANet kudos for trying new things, but unless they start taking into consideration the limitations of the environment they’re working in, I fear many players will simply find themselves unable to play.
this is so much more annoying than necessary. Either overshooting by 50% or coming up way short. Why not just make it the same as rifle jump shot so we actually, ya know, land in the spot we clicked on. I thought it has something to do with my smart casting but it clearly isn’t,

Even in the US I have occasional issues with 3 overshooting or checkpointing me upon apparently landing, so I can’t imagine how bad it must be for oceanic players. I hate to say it but there should not be a title for getting first place because of this (yes I have the title).
I’ve found the autoaim 3 chains work best if you make sure not to hold any direction keys, for what it’s worth.
I have not tried to go for the crystals yet but my problem is with sanctum sprint where half of the skill activations don’t fire making it very dificult to actually enjoy the minigame. The lightning pull does not fire on the first one dumping you into the water, I have had the second one misfire launching me into the waterfall instead of the lightning tether, I have been teleported back half the map on the third one because of a misfire… on it goes, I love the idea of the sprint but it is not remotely fun with any sort of latency.
-edit-
Now I am getting randomly teleported backwards in the map, so client → server sync issue this is extraordinarily frustrating.

I had slight lag problems with sanctum sprint but nothing major that prevented me getting first place and the achievement. However I have since left the over flow in Labyrinthine Cliffs and I am lagging horribly.
Trying to collect crystals is an absolute nightmare when I keep over shooting everything. Its not just Lightning pull I’m talking about either, Assisted Leap is delayed so much I die most of the time using it. Never had lag issues with this game in til today..
I’m another Australian who is over shooting with power 3, putting my crystal quest on hold for the moment. Amazing update otherwise.
I found that i could manage the crystals, but the Sanctum Sprint is unplayable as im rubber banding all over the place. Pretty unfortunate i cant even try it, because it seems like a fun game.

I’m from Asia and I also have the same issues with the #3 skill. This single “skill” is costing me more silver than anything else
I died like ~20 times trying to do the diving goggles because the #3 skill keep overshooting me. However, I eventually discover that by pressing the backward key a sec or so while in the air, you will slow down enough to land correctly. Depends a great deal on luck, but its a work around.
I just tried Sanctum Sprint and I was rubber banding all over the map about 50% of the time when I used a skill. The jumps were the worst part by far. I don’t even think it would be possible to get 1st place playing with my connection unless the rest of the group was afk.
The lightning pull is ridiculous. manual: miss. Auto: miss. Fire at max range: Goes further than max range. How are you supposed to use it?
heh, ye im from Australia and i kno what you mean, but after many deaths i managed to get all 40 crystals and now i’ve got the Meta achievement. ^^
Doing the monster events in between managed to pay off the WP cost though, hehe.
From malaysia, so yea i have to chime in that the lagging and latency issues is the one biggest thing that makes me borderline wanna ragequit. which is a sad thing, because when the line is ok, i really enjoy the content.
For the sake of putting another name on th list I too am having the same issues. WA, Australia
Pixelpumpkin and I are attempting to troubleshoot this by using aVPN service. So far it looks promising. More info as we get it.
Also getting issues here (Sydney, Aus). In addition there’s almost no chance for me to actually be competitive in the sprint. Before the first checkpoint I would have rubber-banded so much that the rest of the group are already miles ahead.
Not sure what ANet can do besides grouping people based on latency though (for the race, everything else – no idea).

This, plus its the lack of proper testing that would have revealed these issues. I’m in Melbourne and have exactly the same issues that everyone (bar 1 person) is complaining about. The crystals achievement looks almost impossible to complete, there is absolutely no chance of placing in the sprint, and the only way to get the goggles is via a port.
Another Australian player here, but one that cannot even get to the sprint. Thanks to the Oceanic lag, every time I try to make the jump where the Wind Adept is to the small platform, I see myself jump, only to rubberband back and fall to the ground with a resounding splat or to make the jump, only top see myself as running to far forward and falling (mid jump).
At this stage I have given up on even trying to get to the waypoint up the top, and instead going through all the open world stuff until the issue is fixed (or the lag dies down – whichever comes first).

Yep, I’ve experienced exactly the same issues with it.
ArenaNet really needs to stop testing on development servers located in their building, or at least find a way to introduce artificial lag to the network.

They could make sure they don’t design events that require a low latency. Unless they have servers based in all 4 major regions someone is always going to have these sort of issues.
Haha Crazylegsmurphy! I like at the end where you make it but then get ported down and shrug. Just can’t win! :P

I’ll try that . I keep over shooting as well and landing on the on the sail mask below and dying , The mask below isn’t even far enough a fall that a should necro dye on , its wierd
Playing from Korea, I have all the above issues despite what is some of the best internet in the world. As mentioned though, it doesn’t seem to be a nakedly latency issue. I can pvp or do most other events fine; it’s just here that I have desync issues.
I managed to get 40 crystals with judicious delay compensation and ignoring of automatic lightning targeting, but it wasn’t at all fun.
Sanctum Sprinter, however, is completely 100% unplayable even semi-competitively.
10/10, would bang.
And here’s another video, albiet with slightly lazier editing.
I have since gotten the first place achievement, but I got lucky between a slower pack and a kind fellow who waited at the finishing line so others could get the title.
The issue still remains however, overall its a fun event but this is borderline unplayable for allot of people.
i’m from Hong Kong here. tried Sanctum Sprint last night and as much as i loved it, it was buggy / laggy as well. i don’t even care about the achievements at this point, i just want to be able to play a race, get good at it, have some friendly competition.
i haven’t even staretd on the Crystal hunt yet and not looking forward to it.
i’m not that familiar with server vs client stuff, or anything regarding that really. so is there nothing that we, as users, can do on our end to deal with the lag?
[added: though i will say it’s rather entertaining watchnig other people in front of me leap to their deaths unwillingly as well. i can be stuck no the very first lightning jump for a good minute and there will still be people behind me as well. le sigh. XDDD]
Ooo, here is a new thing. The latency issue has disappeared when I try to do the first jump at the wind adept – now the screen freezes when I jump, and when it unfreezes I find myself as a red smear on the ground below…
I have gone through about 4 other zones since that first screen freeze/splat with no issues, including the Spekk’s Lab jumping puzzle, but when I went back to try that wind adept jump – freeze SPLAT!
o lol, here i was hoping the new thing to be improvements being seen. o well, one can hope. ; )))
Im from SE Asia.Definately lost about 30s doing the lighting pull.
Also sanctum sprint pretty much unwinable due to random rubber banding.
Been having the same issue, It makes it impossible to get the sky crystals. Everytime I use Lightning pull I shoot way off. It’s getting really frustrating.
