This is happening in every chat in every game I play. I can’t report everyone. Is this the so called “helpful” and “friendly” Gw2 Community everyone is always talking about?

To clear up confusion, the foul language in the chat box was directed at me for not letting people win the race.

EDIT: This thread is not about weather or not it is acceptable to let someone win in this mini game. It is about the fact that if a person chooses not to let someone win, they should not be condemned for it.

I’m confused… what are you complaining about? The fact that people are letting other’s win or that they are “name calling” because someone didn’t go along with what they are doing?

Sorry about that, I cleared it up a bit in my original post.

I’m not letting anyone win! I think it’s stupid to let people win. How proud can you be with your title if someone just gave it to you.

Sounds like you met up with a bad batch. I don’t think I’ve even seen chat in most of the games I’ve played, and I don’t think anyone was letting anyone else win.

If the name-calling bothers you, report them and move on. If you don’t want to leave the race, just keep winning, and they can take their altruism to another match. It’s ridiculous that they expect everyone to follow their made-up rules for letting other players get the achievement.

I can see people getting grumpy if you are winning repeatedly, back to back to back, still…no call for being kittens to you though. I’ve been grumpy about my lag, but its just poor sportsmanship there.

Now, them teaming up on you, well that’s typical in any competition. You’ll always get a few small alliances while it benefits them to do it. I sort of expect that.

I assume you’re heavily using the Bad Powerups when you race? That will annoy people a lot more than simply winning without them.

Good, that’s what you should do. You should report them instead of answering to their attacks. I would advise you to leave the race and to join it again after winning so that you won’t have to put up with this kind of stuff.
Though I see no problem and I will let people get first if I get the chance (I rarely ever do, but still), like I told you before, they shouldn’t be mean to you because you are winning.
I hope you end up finding a group of competitive players that won’t do this kind of stuff. Good luck.

I remember that just after I started playing a group of people asked if we would be ok with letting one person win at a time so that everybody would be able to get the achievement. I said that I was fine with it, so they picked me to go first because they decided it would be by alphabetic order and my main character’s name is “Astrid Strongheart”. The thing is that I had just started playing the game, so I was pretty bad at it. One person saw it and rushed to the finishing line, called us “noobs” and said that he would win again and again. People called him a jerk or something like that, I said “It’s ok guys, I’m really bad at it anyways”. We started another race, alright, and my game crashed due to one of my Window’s errors. I went back to the game and, three races later, got the achievement with my own effort.
What I’m saying is that there is no reason to attack each other. If our community was as “friendly and helpful” as people are claiming to be, there would be no need for me to post this.

ArenaNet is a neutral company when it comes to vulgar statements. They can determine that no one is at fault if both parties were involved. If more serious matters are present, a lot of times they ban both sides.

If you’re complaining no action is taken, then don’t provoke people or state you reported them because they will dismiss the report.

I did not say anything to these people to warrant an attack like that. I simply stated that I did not let people win, as I don’t believe in that.

Please don’t refer to me as a “he”, as I am a female. I am making this thread to get attention to the devs about the bad behavior that is occurring, you are correct.

It is up to me weather or not I let people win, just as it is up to you to choose to let people win or loose. I don’t deserve to be slammed because of what I have done.

I’m not asking people not to let others win, I am asking that people not yell at those who don’t.

It’s a race, against other players, to come in 1st (or 2nd or 3rd). Maybe Blue has set a person goal to come in 1st every time, and that’s fun for him. Who are you -or the people in OP image- to attack him for playing the game the way it was designed ?

You call him “a disgrace”, but you are wrong! Attacking someone who is doing nothing but playing the game and achieving the mechanic set goal is what’s disgraceful. Beggging/demanding that he stop playing the RACE properly, just so some people will cheat the system to get an Achievement they didn’t earn, is what is disgraceful.

Winning the race is ONE achievement…there are others to be had like gathering all the crystals and using all the skills — after that, go fly a kite.

I find it a disgrace to purposely win first place over and over for attention, acting as if first place is something to brag about or to show as an accomplishment. Wether it’s a PvP race or not, it’s a community event and there is no reason to win first place over and over unless you purposely want to ruin the experience of others; which does not belong in this game.

I don’t think that people should expect others to let them win, I am with you there. However, I don’t see a problem with people asking and/or letting others win.

Maybe some of you are unaware, but in most online competitive games, taking turns winning to take advantage of rewards for winning is called win trading. And in most online competitive games, there are systems in place to make it difficult if not impossible to effectively do. And at the very least, win trading is often a bannable offense.

I’ve seen this with Keg Brawl, Crab toss, and now this race game.
Some people forget these are PvP events. You might not be killing people, but you are competing against them.
Yes this is a helpful community, but that doesn’t mean we should eschew from trying to win in a game mode that is deliberately set for this.

This isn’t PvE, which I wholeheartedly love because of its cooperation and need for it. Now if there was the ability to join these events with only friends, I could see the charm in throwing the race to help a friend out and rotate out the “winners”.

Problem is these can’t be joined that way possibly due to such thought.
These are competitions, I don’t go into a PvP place like WvWvW and hope the other server folks don’t roflstomp me as I explore a map. I wouldn’t expect people to throw a race or crab game if its a random join.

Addendum: Also to those that take up offense at the idea of trying to win first place by actually winning. Then I think you came into that minigame under the wrong pretenses. You are seeing it as nothing more than an achievement to tick off the list you have. This is a competitive game. These two ideals won’t work together unless you actually compete to achieve your goal.

Lots of overreaction going on in here. Is it disgraceful to play the game the way you choose? Not at all. Is it disgraceful to be charitable and help others get achievements? Not at all.

So you have a group of people trying to help others get an achievement. You chose to go against the grain which you are well within your right to do. You don’t have to amend your play style for anyone. But you shouldn’t expect these same people to not react, some a little more colorful than others. I fail to see what the big issue is here.

How about purposely winning first place for fun? Also, what? People are supposed to lose at games? Kittens, I’ve been doing all wrong. Remind me to wipe on CoF1 a few extra times. Wouldn’t wanna ruin the experience for the bosses. Maybe we should get a petition across the servers to let Sorrow’s Furnace win in WvW till they are number one ranked so that they can have a turn at it. I guess in sPvP tournaments, we should just let the worst team win so that they can win a tournament for once. Maybe NFL teams should all just purposely lose to the Minnesota Vikings so they can win a super bowl since they’ve never done it.

This is such ridiculous special pleading just so people can get a title they didn’t earn Let me guess, at your elementary school Field Day, they just gave out participation ribbons instead of place ribbons so everyone could “feel like a winner”.

BlueSoda is correct. It is all fine and dandy if there are groups that want to let people win for an achievement but the fact that they are being attacked for playing the game the way it was intended is completely wrong on all those players parts. I hope they all get a 3 day ban for it personally.

It’s questionable language not an attack. And aside from the questionable language, yes I think it’s a viable tactic to team up against someone if a group so chooses. Why can you play your way but others cannot? It’s a competition right? You were racing and the others were suggesting a way to stop you. And what you and I or anyone else may or may not find to be nasty words is not always the same.

I see you’re trying to take some moral high ground, but all you’re really doing is trying to cover up the real discussion by pointing at a few people who said some not so nice things. It’s not really propelling the discussion forward in any regard.

By the way your second report was justified. Your first one not so much.

Match fixing happens in real life and for most they go unpunished.
So for some in the group who were willing to “help” other get the achievement.
I’m sure for most players got the AR JP achievements via a mesmer portal even though i’m sure the “intended” way was to do it yourself.

I agree with some of what you said, minus the JP logic.
Jump Puzzles, by their definition, are puzzles and not a competitive minigame.
So yes probably the “correct” way is to do it yourself, but it isn’t really comparable to something like this or Keg Brawl.

Still going on about this? If all of the player s in a race are abiding by graces and you wish not to…..change races…..it’s easy as that. As it stands you are making more of it than is needed and simply making it worse for yourself.

you should get in front and put fake traps in places they can’t avoid, like lightning pads or in front of the finish line, or on the walkways.

then just wait till they run into the ones on the finish line and cross it while their stunned.

Well… To be fair, if people are trading wins, they are probably really bad at the game or have to deal with latency and that race is pretty much an easy win all the time. I understand why she wouldn’t want to change races. I would prefer to report and move on.

I believe the OP is trying to talk about the issue again without starting a fight, since the other thread derailed. Maybe if people refrained from calling each other names, that wouldn’t have happened. Note how she started the other thread telling people to stop letting other people win and this time she is just complaining about people that are being mean to the winners of the race.

ignore them, then take your anger out by beating them on the racetrack! The game isn’t that hard to master. if it takes them more than 25 games to actually win a race without an entire pitty party and people letting them win. they deserve to lose.

I remember when I played Mario Kart it was common practice to pull over and let Wario and Bowser win once in awhile for the achievement points.

It’s much faster to just leave and join a new game after winning, like up to 4 minutes faster. Then the only one complaining is the guy who just joined the match you were in.

This is what happens when Anet has the brilliant idea of putting PvP content in PVE area. The die hard PvP players behave as usual and kitten off some PVE people that want to win a single time to complete an achievement.

Listen, you obviously lack empathy enough so that you are content to win race after race and knowingly annoy a portion of players that want to grab this time limited achievement. Well, if you are insensible enough to not care about the others, then I suggest you grow some and become insensible enough to not care about their recriminations. Grow up.

When I’m around, -no one- will get a free win, I will run, and win the race over, and over again, even if I have already won it 100 times before.

I tend to get first in most of my races and I don’t think I’ve ever given away the lead intentionally to give someone a title. I’ve been called a myriad of filthy names, someone went as far as to call me a fat lipped baboon (lol?) because I had won four consecutive times against him. Each where I was ticking at the end and it would be 10-20 seconds before he showed up. The fact I beat him by that margin is enough for me to decide he doesn’t deserve the title if he’s shooting for the title while I’m in the game.

The issue is that the GW2 community IS helpful, but at the same time it’s also starting to get some of the WoW players it seems who believe everyone should take turns so everybody gets what they want.

I personally like the fact I earned mine through a few failures, it keeps me thinking like Farzo linked, failure leads to success. It’s just some people are better at handling failure and the perception of it. And it made me better at the racing course because of it, in order to get first I had to learn a few tricks, like listening for the oncoming lightning strikes and using a guard.

People need to grow up and realize they should have to earn things, especially on a game where you have unlimited resources at your disposal, like google and youtube. And you can’t say generation crap because I’m 19 and I’ve figured this life fact already and have known it since I was 12 and progressing through AQ40 on WoW with a guild that knew my age and kept me around because they knew I was willing to fail with them until we reached that point of success.

It’s not surprising to me that some people would be rude in that way, there seems to be a growing sense of entitlement within the ‘community’ in this game, that everyone should be able to win everything.

Maybe some people just want to be nice and don’t mind letting others win since the finish has practically no impact on what rewards you get. Every time I’ve seen someone get a skin drop they were in like 6th or 7th place. So personally I don’t care about finishing 1st.

I don’t think it’s entitlement, I think it’s more of the fact everyone decided a few years ago they wanted to be a gamer, or play games for whatever reason. The massive influx of inexperienced “gamers” who didn’t ever want to put dedication towards earning something citing reasons like “I have a life.” or other things. We later come to know these as a form of “casual.”

Unfortunately, that branch became the general view of “casual gamers” which are actually very abundant in numbers, so some games shifted to be more casual friendly where people could earn things without the slightest effort, World of Warcraft anyone?
