RNG boxes - a big step in the right direction
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I just went through 100% completion of Dreadnought Cliffs dry on a Kite Fortune drop.
Either I’m seriously unlucky or the drop rate is too high.
I agree, the fact that people who really want to CAN grind for these now is a huge step in the right direction. Bravo. This also stops people from opening a potentially infinite amount of boxes without a single skin.

This is the really important change IMO. It’s the thing that always put me off trying the boxes before.
I don’t actually mind RNG on it’s own, even with a very small chance of success (I never did get my mini polar bear in GW1 but I don’t regret trying) but the idea of throwing a potentially infinite amount of real money into it and not getting what you wanted is too much risk for too little reward. Especially when the rewards are account bound so if you get something you didn’t want you’re stuck with it and you have no ‘back-up’ plan of buying what you did want.
Now at least you can see that the absolute worst case scenario is that you’d need to buy X boxes (I think the minimum drop is 1 fortune scrap, so in this case X = 250) and decide if that’s something you’re willing to do.
A lot of people might still decide it’s too expensive, but at least it’s an informed decision instead of throwing your money into the wind and hoping to get lucky.

I was pretty ecstatic about the 250 = 1 guaranteed skin

Agreed. I HATE RNG boxes in games, and I feel that the Dragon Bash did a great thing in the right direction towards achieving a great balance of luck / money / etc etc chances of getting a ticket.
However, as good as that system was, you could still be severely unlucky and buy 1000s upon 1000s of boxes and not get anything. This time, you buy, buy, buy, farm, farm, farm, you will EVENTUALLY get what you want – regardless if you get lucky or not.
I like that. Keep up the great work ArenaNet, you’re learning – and taking customer feedback is very important and you seem to be doing it right. <3
