First off, I’m a big fan of gw2, and for the most part I love the latest update. The aesthetic of the bazaar is fantastic. However, the Sanctum Sprint….well, simply put it’s pathetic. I didn’t think things could get worse than crabtoss, but you managed to do it. To explain, I think the general idea is great….the course is fun and the new skills are cool, however the execution is beyond miserable. It is so twitchy and buggy as to be utterly frustrating. Often you’ll hit a skill, say Leap, and see the animation, but your character doesn’t respond to the desired mechanic and you end up falling, even though you knew exactly what to do. Or you use lightning pull and inexplicably miss the target, falling yet again. Or you use Light Dash and end up no farther ahead of your opponent than you were, sometimes even stopping completely in a weird, jerky manner.

Please take the time to polish these updates before you put them out. It is just embarrassing. I’d rather have fewer updates of better quality than this. Again, the ideas are sound, but the actual gameplay is unresponsive and glitchy. Hope to see things improve.

Light Dash stops your Autorun, you must hold down W to keep on moving. If you don’t want the final awkward roll at the finish of your Light Dash, cancel it after the majority of the speed boost.

I’m aware of that. I doubt anyone let’s go of w in a race very often. It’s more of a lag issue.

I agree. If you have bad ping or any form of lag, Sanctum Sprint is unwinnable. I only managed to finish first because I was lucky and landed an instance where everyone who already had first would stop before the finish line so someone who didn’t have it yet could get it. Light Dash is shorter, the lightning leap will often make me fall halfway through or get jerky and jump over the target spot. Sometimes when near one of those lightning rod type triangles, it takes up to 2 seconds for skill 3 to switch to the insta leap (which can also get laggy). Sometimes the wind jump boost will also get jerky.

I don’t dare to use abilites fast, as in be quick to press them, because if I do, I end up falling and teleporting all over the place and then crash on a planet I have no idea where it is.

I still almost win every sprint I enter, if I don’t end up teleporting all over the place.

I’m getting a lot of rubber banding as well. A lot of times when I hit the #2 Dash ability as well, it’ll make my character look like they trip for just a moment and won’t dash forward at all. Yet I still lose my endurance… Y n Y ;;

Hoopa doopa.

How do you stop the light dash? How do you cancel it after the first burst of speed?

I do enjoy the Sanctum Sprint, but it is definitely very laggy. Perhaps this is due to high demand and everyone wanting to play it. There are other issues as well, like a map bug/exploit right at the end, that some players takes use of very often. You can be first and rush up around the bend to the finish line, only to find whoever was behind you, exploited a map weakness and are standing behind the line as winners. They don’t even need to cross the line to win. I doubt that is intended.

i actually love this, but feels unplayable for me. i experienced the randomness of #3, where either it sends me way overboard, sends me way short, or sends me right where i’m supposed to be, then i get lifted back up in the air again and once i floated up and down for a good 3 seconds before i regained control of my character. #2 sometimes sends me way ahead,a dn then i rubberband to be even further than where i started. i even died using #1 once. i tried to jump, it lagged, i floated again, and then i got sent back to the last checkpoint.

so few questions.. am i doing something wrong here? or is it just lag or my conenction to their servers? cause my system is fine.

with that being said.. if i could have some help understanding how the skills work.

  • Skill #1 – just press once to jump and can move forward. can i using this while holding down W? i’ve tried that and it just doesn’t respond so i have to stop each time and do a jump on point, and then hit W to move forward.
  • Skill #2 – so press it once, and then i can press it again to cancel it so i don’t get the weird rubberband movement at the end? i usually hold W the entire time obviously
  • Skill #3 – i really don’t get. so it’s usually a ground target skill. easy enough. but when it comes to those stations, should i be able to hold W until i’m on top or near the lightnig symbol on the ground or at a lightning thingy station, line up my directio to the next station, hit 3 and it’ll send me off? or do i have to stop and then tap 3? should i hold W immediately? often it either doesn’t respond and i end up walking off. or i get launched and even holdnig W, i fall way short.

any help would be much aprpeciated. if i can figure out the skills work, then i figure out if it is lag. thuogh i fear it is the latter. ://

I’m holding down W all the time yet I still have my movement halted sometimes after using that skill.

I agree, the new skills are fun as is the course, but definite polish is needed.

Similar here. The skill lag is really annoying. I do not have it outside of Sanctum Sprint.

Lightning overshoots sometimes, rubber banding, even the teleport skill teleports me sometimes back to the beginning of the current chekpoint instead to the next, jump skill aborts in mid jump (no I was not hit, I understand the mechanics), running sometimes stops (W or autorun makes no difference) after a skill is used and so on.

In addition, I have been stuck several times underground (I think they fixed this today), got stuck on the course (the revolving door) with no way out and even were once bugged inside a wall.

Also the hit boxes are placed really really lazy. This is a quick job, it was obviously not finished for release and rushed.

I still managed to become a couple of time 2nd or 3rd. But never 1st. Tried it about 50+ times now. Rarely a race that does not suffer these problems for me.

Will not do it again until it gets an update, which is sure due, as this was obviously rushed to release.

I really like the idea, but the execution is seriously flawed. I am not the only one having these issues. Constant chat topic at the end of a race.

Looks like this is an achievement I will not able to get because of technical issues on the server I am powerless against.

For me it would be sheer luck to win this…

Regarding the mechanics: you should keep grounded when hitting a fake upgrade. Fake upgrades are OP as the 1st place can spam them and the 2nd place never has a chance unless the 1st place fumbles really bad.

Congrats to all the guys that do not suffer these problems and actually can enjoy this mini game.

Probably not intended. But you do have to run at least between the chest and ribbon for your finish to register. I usually hop up there to use a firework gun until someone else finishes first.

I can mostly confirm that this is latency issue. On good connection Sanctum Sprint seems to be working as intended. I know this becouse I have two ISP connections. One is 100Mbit but from some reason it usually lags on GW2, some local routing issue (minor packet loss). So when I play GW2 I use my second ISP which is only 10Mbit speed but latency with GW2 servers is great. Today I did a small test on Sanctum Sprint while connected with my “laggy” ISP. And indeed, in this case the game behaved mostly as many complaining people are describing. Then I went back to my stable connection and suddenly it was all OK. So, yeah. I guess if anything, for future releases some network code needs to be looked at.

Its not the execution, that was good, its the engine, it plain isnt designed for physics puzzles.
Note how many times the camera bugs out, note how many times rocks that look the same as the ones you jumped onto not even a minute ago cannot be jumped on because kitten invis wall or plain a bit too much of a angle, note how many times people get teleported back when they use forced mobility skills or just get stuck on small rocks.
The GW/GW2 engine plain isnt made for movement like spectacle fighter/adventure games (e.g. twilight princess, darksiders, DMC, Bayonetta, GoW) have.

When life gives you lemon, ask if its from a anime or manga.

I have none of the problems outlined in this thread. Well, almost none of them. I have seen the lightning ability fall short and drop me off the edge a few times (but only like 4 times out of around 40 Sprints completed, so not often at all) and I occasionally stop in my tracks after using Light Dash, but other than that, I haven’t had an issue with any of it. No rubberbanding, no skill lag, everything works as it should.

It must be a latency / internet connection issue, or perhaps a PC issue. My PC and net connection are fairly solid (though far from amazing). Either way, I don’t really know if it can be blamed on Anet, they can’t really be expected to test and adjust the game for slow internet connections or bad machines.

I never use auto run, and every time i use light dash i have to let go of W and then press it again to run. The number of times i’ve stopped dead because of that is uncountable.

The game is fun but easily turns irritating when you run into a bug.
Light Dash has a good chance for me to just stop for a second or two at the end of it, even when holding down forwards. Plus it often just has bad lag problems that makes it pretty much useless to use without Aspect Master.
Lightning Pull sometimes stops just before the platform for no reason, thus I fall.
Even the big jump has occasionally messed up and I’ll appear to make the jump, only to teleport below the platform and fall.
Fake Powerup has -far- too big a range and is simply impossible to avoid in certain areas, making first place the safest position in the race (Which is odd since it should be quite the opposite)

As for the shortcut at the end, how can it be called a bug or exploit? There’s a Jump powerup -right- there, how could ANet have overlooked that? And if they didn’t like it, they so easily could have removed it by now.

This could be a lot of fun. If it was actually about racing, and not about who’s the biggest kitten with the powers. Running in a position well behind the leaders there’s constantly fake power-ups in places you just can’t pass without hitting them. And down you go again. And the highest position I’ve ever been on was 2nd, for a while. It was simply impossible to keep going when others keep spamming all their powers on me until I inevitably fall down and they’re all long gone.
I just generally don’t like the idea of making something like this that pretty much encourages players to screw each other over. There are plenty of those people out there that try to do that without any further encouragement to it.
So this really could have been a lot of fun, but at least for me it’s something I never want to go back to.

Fakes aren’t much of a problem once you’ve done the race a few times. You’ll know where the real ones are and the people usually put the fakes in the same places. That said, since I don’t play for first, I generally let some people go ahead of me to clear the way, just so I don’t have to deal with them. Four place and further back see much fewer fakes.
