So Adnul is fixed. what about...
Ou yeah, we make minigame that is boring and we make it hard, so people have to play it 20 hours just to beat one npc! This will be awesome, players will love it!
Is it really the way Anet thinks? Because every patch makes me feel this way more and more…
Can’t heal, can’t bluff, he just spams all skills that norn…not fixed. Worst mini game ever.
I, like some others I’ve seen here, liked Belcher’s Bluff before facing Adnul. He just cheats so hard. I wonder if anyone at Anet can consistently beat him.
Having npcs play by the same rules and coefficients would be nice.
When did “fun” get thrown out the window for “perceived difficulty” which is just frustration in game mechanics?

I hate to join the kitten fest on Adnul, but he does seem to still be bugged.
Bugs:
-Invisible Critique, at the start of some matches he seems to have critique up without having the icon up
-Chained Critique, while he may not re-critique on the 3rd round of having critique up, he does seem to do it on the second, and very rarely the first (ie back to back). Not a bug but very annoying:
-Doesn’t take enough damage/heals too much, while it doesn’t seem to be a bug, he just has way too much health and doesn’t take any damage, even those he rarely bluffs. Even with counting his skill uses it doesn’t seem like he can be beaten unless you correctly predict every skill he uses.
-Great timing on Critique, he often has perfect timing on when to critique if when not chained. (~75% health or lower, immediately after he countered your water)I’d offer strategy advice such always bluff a couple turns after he Belches and save you own Belch and Water for when he could Belch… however i still haven’t beat him, so take it for whakittens worth.
I have experienced this stuff as well and it is quite annoying. I did it on 5 characters so I’d have the abilities whenever I wanted for fun as I am saving for the permanent belching table. Some with the mango pie and some not before I knew about it.
However after the mango pie nerf and doing it on 5 characters. I decided it just wasn’t worth it as the game really isn’t about skill but just pure luck with a couple of these npc’s. I’ve went through battles where -woo woo woo- was only down for the first two turns and the same for critique even after the so called fix.
This doesn’t even take into account the almost physic ability they have in same matches. When trying on my 6th character to beat Adnul before deciding it wasn’t worth it. He burped every single heal I ever did in 7 matches before I said screw it and left. The bloody npc refused to use burp at all until I tried to heal and then he’d time it perfect every time. It didn’t matter how long I waited or how many times I tried to get him to burp a bluff the few times critique was down or how many times I tried to change up the heal timing. He’d get it perfect every time.
While some npc’s can be beaten with knowledge of how they work or looking for the patterns. A few like mister Adnul don’t really have a pattern rhyme or reason it just comes down to luck and that saps all the fun out of doing it. Because you have to play till you get bloody lucky.
Yes, I am seeing that too. Water does only 10% heal (instead of 20% advertised on the tooltip) and Drink does 20% damage to health (instead of 10% advertised on tooltip). Noticeable on Adnul, because he seems to be more difficult than others.
To reproduce, start by taking a Drink right at the get go, and your HP will decrease from 10,000 to 8001. Next use Water, and it will only increase it by ~1000 hp.
Please fix the tooltip or fix the game if this is not the intended behavior.
I’m pretty sure taking a swig of alcohol reduces your health by 20%, not 10%.

I hate the freaking Norm NPC. I tried for hours and hours. Most of the time, he has perfect timing on my water. He doesn’t take much dmg from drinking. The closest I got him down was 20% then he started his perfect water interrupt timing + prevent bluff. This is so rigged.
He has not been fixed.

When the opposition has an obvious and repeated advantage over the player because they don’t follow the same rules (charr guy drinks every 2nd turn, all of the drinking NPCs use their specials constantly), it’s not a challenge, it’s just cheating.

Tips for Adnul.
Bring the Sylvari’s Boast. Save your water and bluff skills for when he uses Critique. When he does, use one of each, then take a single drink. Or do them in whatever order you choose. That way you are only ‘forced’ to take one drink.
I tried this strategy 15 times last night. Doesn’t work. So I save my water and belch for critique? How about actually getting his health to drop? You are suggesting I spam bluff over and over until he uses it when he is at about 80%. Trouble is I’m always dead by then. He loses almost no health and heals all the time.

+1
I agree with the above posters. Adnul doesn’t adhere to the rules (or any rules I can figure out) and it makes it almost impossible. I’m hoping for a fix here because this is really just annoying at this point (hours failing)
Dear Anet programmers. Adnul Irongut is healing for double of the player when drinking water, still stacks critique back to back and starts out with invisible Critique.
Fix your kitten please.
Just put this guy outside the safe zone for 10 minutes. 10 minutes, and I’ll forget the last 4 hours. I’ll shove those bold undertones so far up his kitten they’ll knock out his teeth. Sitting there talking about petty palettes with his non-combat zone, I’ll show him petty palettes from the inside out.

/e: got him. Took some serious luck, trying to time belches, but make sure you don’t blow Boast unless you’re certain the next 3 drinks will land you below 2k hp, for maximum damage when you belch.
I promise you this: if someone finds an exploit that allows you to kill non-combat NPCs, I am coming back to Hunter’s Hearth and farming him until my hands are bloody. Furthermore, I’ll be quoting back every line he’s used ad infinitum while I do it.

I hate you ANET for this idiot Adnul.
Beat Adnul after about 45 minutes of trying. We died at the same time, but I took the swill and the game decided to make me the winner.
That corsair guy was the easiest, but then again, what would you expect from a twig girly man.
Anyone who managed to beat him just had a serious amount of luck, cause that npc is still bugged, but i read somewhere in this forums that a Anet Dev acknowledged this and that it should be fixed.
I tried a few different strategies and here’s what worked for me, this was pre any patch so it should still work.
- Pick Boast as your signature move
- Always bluff… if he interrupts it with a belch, belch back and drink water in that order.
- This should keep your own health from dropping as fast as his, with luck you’ll interrupt a heal or two and you’ll go into the next phase with a big advantage.
- Eventually he hits a threshold where he’ll start spamming his signature move.
- Use belch, drink water, drink in that priority unless you can get a bluff in.
- Once you get close to 3,000 or so health use boast.
- Try to time your abilities so you use belch at below 20% health to do a large amount of damage. If he gets too many belches, or your losing health much faster than him just surrender and try again. It will take some luck but it’s possible and this strategy is simple enough that you can spam games until you get lucky.
This was helpful, finally beat him ^^
