The wait at the finish...Sprinting
Good idea, I agree.
Good idea.
I love sanctum sprint. And I think it needs ideas like this to be better (and more maps)
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
The timer goes to 0 as soon as all players have crossed the finish line. If someone leaves however, and a new player comes in before the timer hits 0, that player has to also cross the finish line.
The timer should drop to 1 minute remaining as soon as the 1st person crosses. To make it a little more fair to slow people though, the timer should be reduced by 30 seconds for every person that finishes, until only 1 min remains.
I’ve seen people that actually grief the timer by not crossing the line on purpose. Everyone will be finished except them, and they’ll just be sitting there at the end, waiting out the timer.
Did you check the map?? Everytime I’ve had to stand there more than a minute, it was because there were other people still falling off the track and only halfway done.
A better idea at that point would just be to Ladder-Split it. Send everyone who finished in the first 5 minutes to a matchup with others who did the same, Tourney style. Then leave the Beer Leaguers to limp their way there in the 8-10 minutes it usually takes them… (might end all the whining about the First-Place achievement too)

Not to mention that usually when you start the first sprint, the game joins you to a game already in progress, so if the timer is still going it’s probably because one or more players started the race as you’re finishing it.

A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
The sprint will indeed end when all racers have made it up to the finish area. It periodically checks to see if anyone is still racing and if not, it will end early.
Wait, so is it possible that by jumping from the top of it we are delaying the end of the race, since it teleports us back to the last checkpoint before the finishing line? Because I do that all the time while waiting for the timer to run out, but I thought it did nothing since I had already crossed the finishing line.

“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
Also Gabby, if the race isn’t full at the end, and someone joins, they timer keeps going. Same thing if the race is full, but someone new joins after someone leaves after crossing the finish line.
It shouldn’t consider people that finished as “racing” if they go back on the tracks and people before the first/second checkpoint as they just joined and will probably wait until timer is over (since they will not be able to complete it in under 3 minutes).
How about giving early finisher a chance to transfer to a queue for other top finishers? Or, just send the top half of finishers from two instances to a new instance and the last half of all finishers to a race instance together?
Any sort of matchmaker system, even a basic one, would have made this a lot better. The reward for better racers would be much faster runs and the consolation for slower racers would be a better chance to win the next race vs. others in the lower half of the skill curve.
So the problem is people joining mid-race.
So the problem is people joining mid-race.
And people leaving mid-race.

Right, so there the confirmation too just below yours as well.
I’m really surprised we can join ones in progress in the first place TBH.
Not saying it’s clunky or anything… just a smidge awkward.
Oh Well! …I already got first and the only thing left to do is get Crowd Favorite now and joining a race in progress makes that easier … for me atleast. I feel bad for the people who have to wait longer though!

It would be nice if, while we are waiting, the game does not try to kick us for being inactive. We are after all forced to wait.

If you crossed the finishing line, the game should recognize it and stop bugging you with the kickout message. It’s pointless and extremely annoying. Not only are you forced to wait up to 4-5 minutes (my current record is leaving me with about 4min 45sec waiting time. yey..), but in that time you are constantly bugged with tat stupid message. I can’t even go afk.. -.- And no, I can’t leave and rejoin because for some reason the game makes sure I get back into a race with the same waiting time as the one I left! It’s like purposeful griefing.

Either that, put you in a race that’s already halfway done (so you don’t get a reward) or put you in a race at the start with about 40 seconds left so you have no way of completing it.

definately agree!
it also makes me in games where i do win on a regular basis, it makes not want to leave because of the time it’ll take to start a new race to let others in the group have a chance at winning without me hogging over them…
also the game needs to not join players mid race when you start new , especially with the time to wait for a new one to start…. i don’t really understand the logic this at all.
surely it’s not that hard to write the code so that that any games in progress , no players may join, new players get queued to join the start…
the mini game is great, has it’s own issues and all but fun.. just some simple logic that doesn’t seem to be applied whether it was down to time or technological limitations.. who knows.
It also needs to quit telling you to move at the end or it`ll DC you from the game.
2+ minutes remaining, wtf are we meant to do?

This is what I thought as it has always ended like that for me in my games with others.
I finally got the first place achievement with a little help from someone giving up first. That said, I just run it now for the free loot (rares and catchers) at my own pace and leave as soon as I get the chest at the end (exit button at right of screen); the ranking means less than nothing to me. So basically if the ranks means something to you then stay for the tally, I’ll be the guy disappearing asap.

Then pls, can you stop adding ppl to races that already started so we dont have to wait 4 min every single time..

May want to re-evaluate your script o.O
Making sure that It is not presuming the following are active racers:
-People who joined for “practice round” as you have scripted
-People who leave the finish zone to troll around
while you’re at it, please disable the bloody kick timer after you finish the race -_-

Can you costume brawl in a PvP zone?
I would have liked a little on screen cloud shaped thingy with the position you are in that updates as the race progresses, that is a basic for all racer games. This one just tells you what position you are in after each checkpoint. Unless I have overlooked it.
The problem with that is you need logic to determine, at any point within a spiraling track, whether you are “ahead” of the other racers. For a racing game, it’s obviously worth the programming investment to add this. For a temporary minigame in an RPG, not so much. With the checkpoint reporting all they have to do is keep a list of the people who entered the checkpoint, the order you got there is your placement.
They did try active position reporting in GW1 and this very issue came up because there’s one point where the track spirals and the logic gets confused and starts jumbling everyone’s placement.
Sorry, but i’d rather have it late arrivals aren’t allowed. Aka, if the round’s being going for 1 minute, stop new people from entering, if ppl quit then less have to arrive.
Best would of course be to be auto queued to a new instance.

This isn’t correct it has ended for me when I’ve still been out of the track (and not just when I’ve zoned in during a race) and as a consequence I didn’t get the achievement point for completing the race.
Its riddled with bugs I also placed first in 1 race and didn’t get the achievement.

Yeah I had it shut down on me while I was still actively running my butt off after it connected me to a game already in progress…
You did not get first in that race you was second coming over the finish line. The guy that went across the line first got the chest and left the race to go back and que for another. When the time came for the tally of scores the game seen that the guy that got first was no longer there and gave you the first place points but not the win…You will not get the achievement for first place unless you are first…..
ofc you need to be behind the finish line when time’s up…otherwise you haven’t completed the race. and yes, for me a game once ended almost 2 minutes from 0:00 as everyone in the game passed the finishing line.
Is there yet a list of all the bugs in this minigame? Probably useless as it will go away before bugs are adressed. But it’s quite annoying, I may have finished maximum one round without encountering various glitches. The waiting game at the end just adds another level of annoyance.
