This drinking is kittening me off
Yes. Belcher’s Bluff has nothing to do with skill. It’s literally 100% luck. Basically, every time you lose it’s not because you are bad, but because the RNG decided you should lose. Similarly, if you win it’s because of luck.
This is probably the worst minigame I’ve ever seen in a MMO. Disgraceful.
This is not true at all….
I have beaten them all. Adnul is the hardest and does require some luck, but also thought and good skill selection. If you think it has nothing to do with skill it is because you do not know what you are doing or what they are using against you. I can’t believe you would use such a harsh word like “Disgraceful” for free content that is completely optional.
For instance I had beaten the Sylvaria and then moved on to the Charr. I would not die from him but at the same time I could not kill him. He seemed to be able to heal himself for almost half. So then rather than just whine and complain (not referring to you but other threads here) I moved on to the human. Once I beat her, I realized she had the special skill I needed to beat the charr. I went back to the charr, battled it out with him until he got down to half and then used her special skill to win on my first go around.
Same goes with Adnul. He makes you drink….so, use the special skill that makes your drink less potent. Yes it does suck that they can use their skill multiple times, but that is the challenge. I did however hear they were going to “fix” Adnul a bit, but he can be beaten now as is (and with out a pie).

Though I agree with Holy Whirlwind on one point, that it helps to choose the right abilities at the right times. I still think there’s way too much luck involved in this. I’ve been trying on and off for days with no luck. I had no issues with the other npcs.
I’ve gotten very close a few time, only due to the fact that I was lucky with RNG (He didn’t spam his special as much as he normally does).
Maybe I’m doing something terribly wrong and not realizing, but for the moment I remain stuck on this guy.

Following this was super helpful for me.
There is some skill involved when you play other players by keeping track of what skills they use and if their belch/healing skills are available to them. But you never know with the NPC and I have to agree that there is some luck involved especially against the norn (although I haven’t tried him post patch which made him easier).
And if you didn’t see they already did fix him a bit with the last patch: Adnul Irongut has calmed down, no longer insisting on critiquing at every possible moment.
(edited by shiven.1892)
beating Adnul is 99%of luck and 1% of skill
patch dont work as more likely you get criticized even 4-5 times per lost round if you lucky and you survive so long, sometimes he spam critique with one round break which he will usually use for interrupting your bluff or heal, so the only luck you can get is that he sometimes forget to heal himself as one friend experienced after 2.5 hours of trying to beat him

beating Adnul is 99%of luck and 1% of skill
So why can a lot of the people I know that have beat him, beat him on a regular basis (not using his or the last bosses “elite” skill or regen/healing buffs)? I don’t understand why the forums of late have been blaming everything on luck, demanding that things just be given to them.
Its all in the strategy. Besides Adnul was nerfed. Took me quite a few attempts on Adnul before the nerf but I eventually beat him with boast. Each attempt made me change my tactic slightly until it became very easy to get him low and then it just came down to a small amount of luck for the very last stint.
Drinking the juice is damaging me by 20% when it should be 10%, and drinking the water is healing me by 10% rather than 20%. This is why Irongut is impossible for me
That kitten Norn is just impossible, its driving me crazy, its over 2 hours i’m tring and seems there isnt any way to beat him, many times i got him down to 5% but he keep spamming his kitten skill so that i have no other choise to drink and get defeated.
Its just wrong…. seriously.
I have 10000k health juice dmg for 2000 and healing is 1000 if I use dmg reduction, juice dmg for 1000 (3times of juice drinking).. but Adnuls healing is double of dmg he gets from juice ..
yeh, seems like they take less dmg and they heal for more :\ plus, they can spam their skill….
Just bluff every time and drink water right after they belch. If you get low use your belch to give you some breathing room. That is what I did and it worked very well.
Don`t bluff Adnul and use For Science at the right moment. It`s really easy.
if you dont bluff you’ll be dead in 4 rounds.
This is probably the worst minigame I’ve ever seen in a MMO. Disgraceful.
I agree, but only when you’re playing against NPCs. Against other players it’s a lot of fun!
The sad part is that they are going leave this minigame as a permanent minigame when there have been so many more fun minigames out already, but they are not permanent.
He is hard I will say that, I have beaten him though. It took a lot of tries to do it but it can be done.
I used that move by the Sylvari guy? I forgot what it’s called, basically you really need to belch at him. If he uses his heal skill, after 3 drinks he will use his heal again. Belch at him it will bring his health down quite a lot. Keep using your bluff during the first part of it. When he starts using his special move, alternate between your water and your alcohol and use the Sylvari skill that lowers the damage you take from drinking. Belch at him and keep alternating between the water and the alcohol. That’s how I beat him. It is frustrating but it can be done. Good luck to you all and I hope you manage to get it done.
I tried everything, i also started to count how many times he was drinking/bluffing to know when his skills were ready in order to try to interrupt his heal but its totally useless, cause he uses its skills at random, so you cant predict when to interrupt him.
I dont see any way for me to beat him, except a big lucky shot.
i thought i would haveto play this at zephyr whatever.. with the frog guy
but then i get this mail telling me to hop all over tyria.. %&^#&^$
i basically had this drinking game in one of my storylines.. i guess it was ok, because it was character story.. but this, is just incorrigible
it’s prolly what ArenaNet executives do with their lives. . . .
and no there’s no skill.. you win it the same way as everything else in this game..
spam the skill that works
Yeah… IMO Adnul shouldn’t be the most difficult one. I mean, the hylek was supposed to be the grand master or something, right? He was WAY easier to beat than Adnul was, I think.
Needless to say that after FINALLY beating Adnul (before the “fix” and not using food) I was pretty sure that I would not be able to beat the hylek at all. I was pretty surprised that he was so easy in comparison.

This is going to be the excuse people use for poor game design every time. “it’s free”. We’re getting free content updates because they seem to have no plans to work on an expansion. Therefore the content, free or otherwise, is designed to keep people playing and interested. As such this “free content” still needs to come up to scratch.
I too was pretty annoyed with the signature spamming they do. Just gotta keep forfeiting/losing and retrying until they quit it.
if you dont bluff you’ll be dead in 4 rounds.
Using water and belching, is not bluffing. Still use those, just not the bluff once he starts to us his special skill more (usually at about 50%). Then use the special skill where you take less damage per drink when he forces you to drink. This recharges your belch faster and you tag him again.
It looks like Zappix beat him exactly how I did, so that infers that some skill and strategy is involved.

It’s funny, because they “nerfed” him yesterday… YET HE’S STILL IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT. I know its pure RNG for the most part, but when he catches my bluff 4 times in a row and blocks my water 3 times in a row ROUND AFTER ROUND… there’s something wrong with that. Each time I attempt it I cannot bluff or heal, because he blocks them both non-stop.

exactly, its not fixed, its BROKEN! i can say this for sure cause this is what happened 2 min ago:
round X: i used bluff → got stopped
round X+1: i used heal → got stopped
round X+2: he bleched …… wtf ?
Whatever tactic you all suggested i tried, and actually i was already doing it before your suggestions, but there is just no way to beat him, except maybe if he bugs and he forgot to stunlock you for some reason.
Devs should really look carefully at him, cause there is no way for this to be so hard.
Here is how I did it for him
Bluff every time. Even if I had to drink I still took less damage then drinking and then I could get a bluff in when it let me. Drink water right after he belches since I knew it could not be blocked. I belched on him when my life was getting low to keep from having to drink.

I agree that beating him is just impossible.I have no trouble dropping him to about 50% HP by constantly using Bluff,Heal then Bleach. But then his Special Skill drops in… NO WAY! He uses it with only 1 round break and in the meantime he either heals or breaks my heal. It’s really hell on earth and the most annoying thing is I didn’t have any problems with the other NPCs.Even worst his skill is the one u need to defeat the Bazzar frog.He should be nerfed even more really though. And why are we not able to use or special skill like 2 or even 3 times? How are we supposed to beat him. There is no tactic which is correct i have tried every single one i have read in the forums and they all fail because of luck.
Maybe this was just me being lucky, after 50 times belching it out with Adnul Irongut, but I took a “rage” break and came back online only to beat him on 50th…51st… I don’t know, try. He only used his special once and then drank himself to defeat. FYI, this was after ANets update yesterday. Keep trying guys!!!
had a horrible time with it
then just kinda alternated between all the skills
the norn guy finally went down really fast
not even sure if it was luck or balancing health with recast
just something to shake my head at later, i guess
4 hours, 3:15 AM, still going. Is this is ArenaNet? Is this the “action RPG” you wanted to create? Does this match the vision you had for your game? If this is to your plans, then I am done.
I have exactly 999 hours and 1 minute played. I’ve decided if this continues past the 1000 hour milestone, then I am done and won’t return.
it would be really funny to see someone quit because belchers bluff had ruined the entire game for them. haha but to make you feel better, its not like it took that much effort to create, its basically rock paper scissors. take a look at zepher sanctum, that was a masterpiece. don’t get too mad over a more expensive version of rock paper scissors. overall, the update was decent
5 hours, no win.
Ok, I’m nerd raging again. I’ve beaten the Asura and Sylvari, but Maddie has Woo up 100% of the time and I can’t even heal at all.
Edit: Beat that rotten Maddie finally. Now for the Charr and Norn. Not looking forward to Adnul xD.
(edited by Woljnir.7810)
Adnul is so freaking hard! It took me an hour and a half to beat him.
I managed to get his health down to under 1% one time, and all he had to do was drink juice and I would have had it, but of course he drank water and I was down to almost nothing myself. Then he belched for the win.
In all I had a few good chances to beat him, but it seemed like he got harder as it went, so no matter what I tried, and thought how good I played him, in those few times it always went down to the last sip.
Until I got lucky my fourth time, down to the very last drink too.
I don’t think I can go back and do this again with him until he gets somewhat nerfed.
I don’t mind that he does a crap ton of damage. I don’t care that he heals himself for twice as much as you do. I don’t even care that he can belch every other turn and that his belches not only cancel out your heals but tack on even more damage.
But seriously, the signature move spam has got to stop.
Ghhhh I ****ing hate them and their pathetic minigames. Belch is bugged. Sometimes it’s stuck at -1 turn and you can’t use it anymore for the whole fight, and it often won’t punish bluffs. Don’t even get me started on the norn guy.
To hell with you and these godkitten crippling bug. I’d like to smash someone’s head.
i hate this guy… its way too poorly designed even after getting nerfed. it didn’t change a single thing before and after still very horrible.
I’m done with Adnul. I hate to say I can’t do it and I further hate to complain about free content and I certainly don’t mind challenging content (I don’t expect to be handed anything), but I’ve decided it’s just not worth the frustration anymore. That’s the beauty of this game, there’s a few other achievements I can get and still get the Bazaar meta.

EFFF THIS MINIGAME!!!
you have to time all your belches perfectly on his healing… while dodging his belches with drinking. good lord whoever designed this, go eat some berries…
I finally beat this pesky norn, the grand master was incredibly easy compared to him, glad I got that over and done with.
Good luck to those who haven’t beat him yet!

Do not lose hope! You will get lucky eventually! I finally just beat him after many hours. My overall strategy was to heal as much as possible (if below 9000), bluff the rest of the time, and belch when my bluff is blocked. Also, always belch before water b/c then you do more damage and the water recovers 1 belch tick.
To win you have to get lucky on him wasting his belch on your drink (also opening up me to use my bluff unabated for 3 turns), and getting lucky on my belches blocking his waters. The boast elite skill was instrumental for me as it actually made it possible to survive some drinks and get my belch back (when I was debuffed and couldn’t bluff anyway) to block his heal.
Not saying it is a fool-proof strategy (the luck part plays a huge piece), but just wanted to share some tips that helped me on my lucky run.
The biggest problem with this is that Arenanet decided it was ok to have the game cheat. As others have pointed out, Adnul heals for more than he should, takes less damage than he should, while you heal for less than you should and take more damage from drinks than you should. That’s a huge, unnecessary cheat.
Then ALL the NPCs cheat by being able to use a special move more than once per match.
It seems like ANet gave up on trying to make proper AI for them and decided to make them challenging by cheating. No one likes when a game is coded to cheat and it’s a sign of poor game design to boot.
The patch didn’t help. They made a minor shift in frequency of his special move, but they also removed the ability to use regen food during the matches. I know people who had a lot of trouble beating him with regen food and with out it, even with his very minor “nerf”, is just an exercise in frustration.
Bad game design is bad game design. Being part of “free” content, (actually, I think gem purchases by those of us who support the game pay for them), doesn’t excuse bad game design.
Maddie and Adnul were the two I had to play multiple times and get lucky to finally beat. The rest were fairly easy, but I agree, it’s largely luck based, and correctly guessing what they might do based on their health level and what they used last.
Altaholic, can never have just one!
To those that argue there is skill involved – Enjoy your delusions.
The numbers are far too cooked in the NPC’s favor to suggest you have any reasonable chance based on skill. The fact that the NPC isn’t tied to the same rules that you are is proof enough of this. Oh, I can only use a special skill once in a match, but Adnul can do it as often as he likes? Yeah, its simply broken.
I love GW2, been playing every day since launch, and I enjoy hard content… but Arenanet isn’t infallible, and Adnul is a cheater beyond being broken.
This game requires skill. You gotta understand the mechanics in order to formulate a strategy.
To those who think this game is broken: I managed to beat all masters without using food buffs. Took me a while, but I did it. The last boss took me about 5 rounds before I figured out his pattern. Then it’s a simple use of the special skills at the right times.

For me, he’s healed some times several times in a row, used a belch or heal before he could (I keep track), etc….There is some skill, but A LOT of luck. Some people here said he rarely went more than 3 drinks without using the heal or belch, but Ive had some rounds where he won’t drink for 6 rounds, then heal (sometimes healing again right after he does it). The boss is definitely very very buggy.
