I’m sorry, but if you’re going to make a new yearly festival I would rather this one over Dragon Bash a million times over.

What do you guys think?

Edit: Change of heart after learning more, there are some things I like/dislike about both.

Fortune scraps is seriously a horrible idea…

Yeah. The dragon coffers are infinitely better than the kite scraps. I have almost half the achievements from this and i havent seen 1 scrap…

you can buy scraps with gems…..so in essense you can buy the new helmet/catcher back skins………………which is what everyone whined for during DB.

anyway……the new zone is fun and the elemental jumping skill mechanics are awesome.
the new achievement awards are great as well……..earnable skins, something q whole bunch of other people whined for.

….and you can still win these things through the RNG that always existed.

i see no reason to whine about rewards now……………you can get these skins in all ways (rng, gem store, earned).

the overall achievement is a little jump-puzzle heavy………but its a nice change of pace.

While the new skins have not caught my interest in the slightest, I just want to say, “Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!” to ANet for using a token system for them and not making them locked behind RNG as before.

Please stick with this system going forward!

Can someone tell me more about this token system? Is it that you get tokens for winning the dash or something, and you can buy the armor skins with the tokens? I know about the weapons with achievements, but I’m still confused on the armor skins.

I think tickets are getting easier to get now that a large number of people have gotten the ticket(s) they wanted. The prices of boxes on tp are starting to drop below 2s 20c, and I think the event still has a couple weeks to go.

Well, I’m about to buy 25 kites and see what happens, but, earlier.

I used about 600+ mithril, 300+ elder logs, and 200+ ancient logs. Not exact numbers, but I ended up with 28 supply boxes ,and got two kite fortunes out of those 28, and ended up with 4 fortune scrapes from the two.

You need Fortune Scraps to trade for the new backpieces/helms. You get Fortune Scraps by opening Kite Fortunes. Kite Fortunes, in turn, are obtained from killing monsters, from opening the Kite Baskets scattered throughout the world, and from buying them from the gem store.

You can also sometimes get a Golden Fortune Scrap which you can trade directly for a skin of your choice, as opposed to having to collect enough normal Fortune Scraps.

25 kite fortunes = 68 scraps

68/250

Going off those numbers, around 1600 gems for a skin? 1400 if you count the ones you will probably get from open world, and you may get lucky, and get a golden ticket.

I still think I prefer dragon coffers, for now, it’s only the first day after all.

Indeed. I’m not sure what the drop rates of Kite Fortunes are like from mobs, but it may turn out that it’s easier to just farm them from monsters. You could even end up swimming in them by the end of the event, for all we know.

I’ve gotten a bunch of the fortunes off mobs, just leveling my alt, and following about 1/4 the way to buying a backpiece skin from the scraps. It definitely seems like a better option, to just accumulate them over time as you play. I imagine if someone were really farming hardcore, they could get them much faster than I did, as I was mostly wandering in low level zones, randomly killing things for hearts/events.

Already bored. Nice skins though.

Used to be RNG for the item you wanted, now its RNG just to get a few tokens in order to eventually get the item you want. It’s still the same RNG with a token coat of paint.

and, I just realized you can buy back pieces on the tp for pretty cheap, so there is that.

Just need fortune scraps for the helmet.

Yeah, the Aspect backpieces are apparently also rare drops from the Sanctum Sprint reward chest, so my advice would be to buy the backpieces from the TP and save your Fortunes for the helmets instead.

Haha… So.. the “Luck dependents” are angry with the token way for cool itens? BACK TO CAVE TROLL. Or go hunt mobs instead..

Alikely 2 hours of gameplay today (Really playing game, as killing some centaurs, somes wurms ands some lot of common mobs around the world) wielded me alikely of at least 20 fortune scraps. And yet have the luck parameter, alikely me got one 50 scraps toon in one of the fortune scraps.

Its the PERFECT way to do the things. Its nots just RNG, and its not just grind. All sort of people can run after it. By luck, by Buying, or by sample playing the game.

Eh, that first post was my reaction after using probably one of the worst methods to getting fortune scraps. (exchanging mats for boxes) Not counting the scraps I got through gem store purchase, I ended up with 18 scrapes out of 6 kite fortunes that had dropped for me.

Finding out that back pieces were in the tp pretty much killed anything I had against fortune scraps since they are only needed for a helmet skin.
All were from monster drops, I never got any from the baskets.

Same here. I have about 20 scraps from just regular open world play and a wind back item from Sanctum Sprint.

Much, much better than RNG gambling.

It’s day 1 and the sun catcher is 4g 15s to buy on the TP. The lightning catcher is 5g 74s to buy on the TP. The wind catcher is the popular one (it does have the flashiest particle effects I guess) at 12g 97s on the TP so assuming the back items either hold current value or decrease (this could just be an early anomaly) they are very obtainable. I can tell you now, I wasted far more than 4g on not getting a ticket from Dragon Bash. I probably won’t obtain these skins from playing new content (it doesn’t appear that’s the favourable path) but I will deffinitely acquire them from the TP with little grind (only a few CoF runs for these skins). This month is more favourable in that sense.

The helmets I personally find incredibly ugly (and once again, universal gear still looks heavy and out of place on medium or light) so I’m not bothered by not being able to acquire them. It sucks for people who do want to acquire them though.
