I think you’ll find many of the threads complaining about the lag arn’t complaining because they’re losing. I know most folks out there are probably my better at the racing.

What bothers me is this whole idea looks so much fun yet I physically cannot participate due to skill latency making the skills behave extremely erraticlly.

Yes, my latency is terrible at times, actually I might record it this afternoon so people can see exactly what we have to deal with. The only reason I have the achievement is because to combat the lag issue I went looking for a lower pop server to see if it would help. As it turned out I was fortunate enough to enter a race with a lovely group of people . One member asked if he could be so bold as to ask if he win because he was after the achievement . I replied I have no problems with that because my lag is so bad I wouldn’t have a kitten show in kitten of coming first I just wanted the frequent sprinter without taking 10 minutes each run due to being thrown all over the map LOL …. and everyone all was like " Well why don’t we just all take turns at winning " and each and every player sat at the finish line jumping and cheering as each took their turn at finishing first.

No one expected to be given it (well one guy did ask) but everyone worked together to help one another.
It was a very warm and fuzzy moment LOL

If you play the game on a computer that can barely run it from an Internet connection that has high latency then that’s your fault. I don’t mean to sound harsh but that’s the sad truth. That is not an excuse to dumb down content.

As said above. No one is suggesting that the content be “dumbed down.”

There is a difference between “dumbing down” content, and designing within reasonable perimeters based on user feedback.

For example, the Super Adventure Box was playable by almost all the players. The only real prevalent issue seemed to be that the jump pad mechanics were causing issues with players with higher latency.

In their infinite wisdom, ANet decided to use these same mechanics in the new content. This means that for anyone that experienced those issues during the SAB, are now likely to have issues.

As I said above. You are not more important because you have the means to buy a better computer, or because you are closer to the server, or because you aren’t colour-blind, etc.

Every player deserves the chance to enjoy the content. If that content is designed around mechanics that exclude people, then ANet needs to take responsibility, or needs to give fair warning to players that the requirements will now be changing.

In the mean time, the community can compensate by helping those in positions that are less than ideal. Here are a few easy things you can do to make the gaming experience better for everyone.

- If you’re a Mesmer, offer to help people with trouble spots.
- Help other players by escorting them though dangerous spots
- Allow others to come in first during the race
- Help them get other achievements instead
- Donate extra items

There is nothing dishonourable about helping your community, and the more we understand the limitations other players have, and how we can make their gaming experience better, the more fun we’ll all have.

Actually you’re the first person I’ve seen say this. Every time I see people complaining about it, it’s because they want that achievement. Not because they want to play the game or care about the race, they’re just angry that Anet made a title/achievement that they aren’t able to get.

Actually, that’s what it sounds like most are saying. Yes, they’re saying they can’t get it. Not due to not trying, but due to a myriad of factors. It helps to not assume just because they say they can’t get it that it means they are not willing to try to get it.

As said above. I think most players who want an achievement will attempt to get it for some time before trying to find an alternative.

Players wanna play the game. Most understand that there is no benefit to simply getting free achievements and skipping content. Oh, I’m sure there are some out there, but most players are simply trying to find a balance between time and reward.

Take me for example. As you may have seen, I suffer from lag that makes the new content almost impossible to do in a timely manner. Sure, if the content was permanent, I would probably chip away at it until I experienced what I felt I wanted. However, do to the limited time, and the limitations of my computer/internet, I took steps to bypass content.

For example, I’ve done the WvW jumping puzzle for map completion and Sky Pirates, so when it came to this current update, I attempted to do it myself, but eventually took the offer of a Mesmer to get it. The time vs. reward simply wasn’t worth the frustration.

In the race, you find players who have at the very least run 25 races (achievement), and many of those players are probably saying, “If all things were equal, I would have probably gotten first place at least once, however due to my limitations, I have to recognize that this will not happen.”

So, they start asking for help. They’re not asking for freebies, or to be given a free pass, they’re simply understanding that no matter how much effort they put in, they’ve done the best they can with what they have to work with. Because the achievements have value personally, and from a game perspective, these players are basically saying, “If you can allow me to win, then I can feel good about my achievement, because if all things were equal, I would have probably done this.”

I think this is a reasonable conclusion, no?

I tried a few races today on a relatively new laptop on a less than ideal connection, and the results were surprising. Lag was occasionally an issue – I had a couple instances where I’d be racing and then all the sudden I’d be in midair somewhere else, or just suddenly appear back at a prior checkpoint with no explanation.

More interesting, I noticed a few bugs in the course itself: places that, on my desktop, were clearly labeled as lightning tether zones were not labeled on my laptop, which I have running at lower settings (not that it can’t run at higher settings, I just choose the lower settings to keep it cooler). It was not unplayable for me but I was only a half-hour’s drive away from the high-speed internet I normally have, and I can easily see the lag issues being multiplied over a connection even farther away. Even stranger, some lightning zones WERE properly labeled at those settings, but most were not. It didn’t affect me much, as I knew they were lightning tether zones even if they weren’t labeled, but a first-timer in a similar situation could easily be endlessly frustrated by it.

Is there anyone or address in particular I would send screenshots of the affected areas too?
