Q:

We know that with the release of the Bazaar of the Four Winds we will be getting the Zephyr Sanctum, which will be host to the Sanctum Sprint activity among other things, and a new location on the world, the Labyrinthine Cliffs. The question is: will the Labyrinthine Cliffs be a permanent fixture in the world of Tyria? By that I don’t mean just lore-wise like Claw Island where you only get to visit on your personal story but be able to travel to whenever you like.

According to the wiki article, the Labyrinthine Cliffs are located at the southern point of the Deldrimor Front. This is contrary to the belief that it was in the Dominion of Winds. Similar to Southsun Cove, you can’t actually physically travel there on foot. You have to talk to an NPC at the docks in Lion’s Arch.

Assuming that it will be permanent, the question now would be: what would entice players to return to this part of the world once the event is over? Yes, you could have dynamic events and such but unlike Southsun Cove and Orr, there aren’t really any areas to explore outside of the city. Southsun and Orr are mostly devoid of players which doesn’t help either. It might end up being a ghost town like the other cities including: Hoelbrak, Rata Sum, Divinity’s Reach, The Grove, and The Black Citadel. Basically anything not Lion’s Arch will be almost devoid of players.

Well, I’m worried that since they’re talking about the Zephyr Sanctum “Flying away” labyrinthine cliffs will become inaccessible after the event. I really really hope that isnt the case, and to be honest I’d be more than a little put off if that were the case, especially since the zone looks really cool. I’m not counting on it being a permanent zone but I guess I’m hopeful that they’ll keep it open.

They’ve been really vague about Labyrinthine Cliffs so far. We know for sure that the Zephyr Sanctum, which is docked at Labyrinthine Cliffs, is temporary. We also know that it will become accessible via some sort of item kind of like the Margarey cutscene after the event is over.

You might say that Southsun Cove remained in the game so Labyrinthine Cliffs should as well. The difference between a permanent zone like Southsun and a possible permanent zone like Labyrinthine Cliffs is that we know Southsun has enemies, events, and gathering nodes. We know that Labyrinthine Cliffs has events like the bar brawl but that seems to be it.

I do hope that Labyrinthine Cliffs will remain in the game regardless of reasons for removing it or otherwise. The idea that there are still so many inaccessible areas on the world map begs ANet to flesh the world out with new zones. Also consider that the world map you see is only a fraction of the actual world.

I have to send in my laptop for repairs under its warranty which could take up to two weeks…Missing out on achievements is fine with me but missing content that rewards exclusive and unique armor/weap/back skins or nodes is reeealy frustrating, especially when a skin finally rolls around that is actually worth getting (for me it was the fervid censer but I missed Secrets of Southsun). One thing I saw that I want to make sure is that people can still earn the quartz node after the event has passed. This gives those who were able to do the meta event a blatant advantage in crafting items that require quartz over those who couldn’t.

If Zephyr Sanctum is not permantent, why would the Labyrinthine Cliffs be? The zone looks to be small as is, without the sanctum it’s bound to be smaller. I’m fine with the area being temporary, I’d rather have a larger map that better ties into the main lore, than something that seems to come out of nowhere (and BTW, how will this tie into Sky Pirates?). If you need hard evidence, just think about what few WayPoint’s it apparently has and it’s lack of Skillpoints, Points of Interest, or Vistas.

Judging from the previews it looks amazing. The scope on everything is incredible. I’d love it if they took the art design of the map and applied it elsewhere. Or at least just the scale of the scenery.

The Zephyrites may actually be grounded orginally in GW1 lore though obviously it doesnt look like it from surface appearance. A Zephyrite NPC states that the organisation originated from the Dwarves who were left in guardianship of some ’Elder’s Heritage’. We dont know much more except the Elder was a her and the Zephyrites only became sky people after humans inherited the order from the Dwarves (though there is lots to potentially speculate on).

As for how it ties into the Sky Pirates, well, there is a vacant seat on the Captian’s Council. Ellen Keil has been put forward as a candidate (she was given the airship that was left behind at the end of the Aetherblade instance) by Magnus. LA is looking to set up a trade deal with the Zephyrites and both Ellen and her compeditor are attempting to formalise the deal to improve their chances of securing the seat.

Arenanet is actually doing a good job of pulling the Living World story together and tying it into established lore.

Too bad you can’t start polls on this forum. I think what they should really make happen is either complete the rest of the Sea of Sorrows continent. There’s only one zone and that’s Southsun, which is in the middle of nowhere. They could also complete the Deldrimor Front, which is where Labyrinthine Cliffs will be.

Wow, I was not expecting that, after all their posts about learning from the past and bringing in more permanent content, no, I cannot believe what you said, there is no way they could put so much effort into this just for it to be temporary.

Gosh, if that is true then I think I will start losing faith with this game, how could they do that? I cannot fathom it, I just can’t, come on Arenanet, seriously?

Anyway, maybe we will never get new content, with it unlikely that we will get expansions now and even when they do finally create a zone with an enormous kittening race in it, that’s going to be temporary so they can what? Satisfy there hardcore lore fans?

I think you’ll find yourself dissapointed, you will only be able to unlock the personal Quartz node in your home instance by completing the meta achievement for this content. Sorry :L

It’s all a bad joke, if they remove it. I hope arenanet will read what so many people here, on reddit and fansites are complaining about and will make the labyrinthe cliff with the new movement, and the race permanent.

I don’t worry if the ship sails away in a month, because it’s part of the living stoy. BUT DON’T REMOVE THE WHOLE MAP. Until yet the living story felt not living because after each update everything was like before. Where are the changes?

The labyrinthe cliffs and it’s funny activities should stay in the world, so people who liked it can go back again, and in a few month when the next bazaar or other things in living story happen, the map can be used again. but please do not remove because the story part there is just over.

OMG YES!! It makes sense that these people would only stop by for a short while to trade ect, but it doesn’t make sense that we shouldn’t be able to go and ‘trade’ or whatever at the zone anytime through the year.

It might also have something to do with achievements, the quartz nodes on the map, and having to re-model the dock without the zephyr sanctum there. To them it’s too much work and they would rather focus their efforts on creating new content. We assume that this new content will all be temporary but they do have a road map to share with us in late July. Maybe there’s something very promising coming up that just happens to be permanent.

I seriously cannot wait to see this bloody blog post they are doing later this month, it better have something god kitten special in it because if they seriously cannot figure out by now that whilst the living story is a great idea they need to leave more permanent content, then there is something seriously wrong.

Since Labyrinthine Cliffs is an actual place on the map I doubt it would be gone for good. If anything they’ll only work on creating the surrounding areas to flesh the zone out.
