Well, I have been pvping a lot recently and really wanted a sclerite weapon to use there. So, I decided to use my savings and try to get one. Over 600g spent…. Probably about 150 crates opened, and now I am left with nothing. Seriously? I feel cheated x.x Hopefully in the future anet will not release items that are only obtainable through ridiculous gambling.

Is there anything I can do about this besides just suck it up? I really wanted at least one of those weapons, and now it looks like I’ll never be able to get one :/

I noticed no one posts what ELSE they got, could you list that so that it doesn’t look biased like you literally got 0 drops from every drop after 150. And how much that stuff netted you on TP.

Obviously as already stated and as you know RNG is RNG. When spending money on them you know there is not a guarantee and it’s a risk. It’s also not required to purchase them from the Trading Post since you can get the crates as drops in Southsun.

I didn’t buy any crates from the Trading Post. I’ve gotten about 20 from drops and have received 1 weapon claim ticket.

Those skins weren’t very good anyways, when i 1st seen them i didn’t even notice the blood till my friend mentioned it. To waist 600g and still not get one is very sad. For how rare they are, they should spatter blood like mortal combat, you should be able to do fatalities & cut ppls heads off. I would defenetly want the ugly skin if they did that.

Personally if i get a key dropped i use it, but i refuse to spend a single dollar on RNG and i am proud of it. If it means i will never get a flame animated weapon then i accept it.

No they wouldn’t. On the other hand, if they use RNG crates they get people converting 600g to gems to try to get a skin.

Also, by having things in RNG boxes its possible for people without a lot of gold or money to buy gems to still get these highly coveted items.

For people who pay $120, 600gold, or anything in between for these ugly skins, I can only say that it seems like you guys have lost perspective. Next week/month there will be something else shiny and new (and likely better than these skins).

I think I had 5-6 crates drop for me in the wild so far. Other than the regular mats there was one single use crafting station. Yep, good decision not to spend 1200 gems on something like that.

Sure, I can do that. I don’t really want to pull up all my trading post records, but I got a ton of passiflora/fruits/karka shells obviously, 2 minis that were 17g each, 1 mini worth 3g, a couple tiki masks and shark/consortium skins that were pretty worthless. Altogether it was worth maybe 70g? I used that money to buy some more crates. Oh, and two single use mobile crafting station and a single use mobile mystic forge.

That’s great for you, but as I stated earlier I mainly pvp now, and I don’t even want to think about how many karka I would have to kill to get the number of crates that I bought. The money I had was savings from when I did pve, and I know it is RNG but you can’t tell me that 600g+ and no ticket is not a little ridiculous. These items aren’t even that high demand, I just personally happen to really like the skins.

Which is why I wanted to get one before they are gone, even if it cost me all my savings. If I had spent all my money, and gotten a ticket on the last crate, I would not be upset that it took me 600g. I am only upset because it doesn’t look like I will be able to get one of these skins before they are gone, despite my efforts.

I did the exact opposite. Got a ticket in my first few crates that dropped on patch day. Figured the drop must be decent and bought a few more with my gems. Quickly, I figured out the rate had to be as low or lower than Flame n Frost.

I’d be much more inclined to gamble in black lion chests where you could get other valuable or useful items.

Would be nice if they at least increased the rate since RNG plays such a big role in obtaining items such as this one.

This time around I bought a crate as soon as the update came up and was lucky enough to get a ticket off my first one. Though to be honest I would have rather gotten the molten alliance skin, I can’t complain too much since I did get one. Perhaps it scales as more people obtain crates over time?

Took me about 90 crates to get one. Sucks to have spent so much gold and still end up not getting what you wanted, I feel for you OP.

if the jackpot is high enough, you would be guaranteed to make a profit.

For example, if I held a lottery where the probability of winning the jackpot was 1/10 and the probability of winning the second prize was 1/5, and, furthermore, the jackpot was 5$ and the second prize was $2, and, finally, each ticket costed 1.50$, I would make

(.7)(1.5)-(.1)(5)-.2(2) = 1.05 – .5 – .4 = .15, or 15 cents per ticket bought on average. Buy a million tickets, and I’ve just made $150,000 off of you, on average.

This is how casinos, lotteries, etc. survive: by intentionally “rigging” the game against the player so that it is statistically in favor of the casino or lottery.

Sadly, this doesn’t pop up often enough for the more mathematically inclined of us to be able to take advantage of (that, or we just don’t realize it). Still an interesting story, though.

Dang 600g, getting a ticket is almost as bad as trying to win a lottery.

Lots of people complain about the drop rate, simple solution; don’t buy it, you’re just supporting the awful RNG system for the weapon tickets, and they will continue to do it
Because it has been successful so far.

But I commend you Botha, 600g and got nothing, and you’re still sticking around? I would have quit, or would have taken a very very very long break.

Thanks for all the interesting comments guys. @Arganthium, you are focusing on the wrong aspect. The goal for me was to get one of the weapon skins no matter how much I had to spend. If they kept the crates in the game, I would spend more money until I eventually got a ticket, because I want one. If the only way to get precursors was through the forge, would everyone just stop going for legendaries? The only reason I’m concerned here is the limited time window to get these items. I’m sure there are other players who really want them, but simply can’t get them, especially if I couldn’t with my funds. I think that is a bit silly, and that anet should either make them reasonably obtainable during the time of the event for people that really want them, or not discontinue them. I don’t really care for the fused weapons, but the same goes for them.

Other (possibly) discontinued such as the Halloween weapons are different, because they are tradable.

It’s not cheating. They didn’t do anything other than spend enough money to cover enough of the numbers to hit enough times on the weeks when the payoff is substantially higher. Now all the state did then was limit the number of tickets sold at each dealer for that event per day at a threshold that doesn’t impact day to day sales but impact these groups who are buying 100,000 tickets. The same amount of money is still rewarded, just unlikely to end up at these “companies”.

right now your comparing one lottory playout with all the crate now try look at it as one lottory with 1 crate, as each crate is a lottory with a 100% win chance(the winnings differ alot)

and the last 2 lines is also true for the lottory. from what i understand there is alot of people that go a liftime playing lotto but never wins(given that wining is getting first price(you set the first price as the token for a weapon skin))

and any lotto is possible to buy the win tho if its worth it is a diffrent matter.
and buying gems for me is ok and useing it on key’s crates or what ever i want is also ok as i normaly buy gems to support the game so that it can be kept running so i can keep playing and get updates and such. that i get some currency that i then can buy some boost or a gift packet(any chest that has a “random” drop chance of stuff) is a win for me, as i now get something for supporting the game i like to play, so any money used to buy gems is not wasted it keeping the game running and all.

I commiserate with the OP – I’ve opened 60 crates (all from drops) and haven’t gotten a single ticket.

It’s brutal that some people who work really hard and pour hours into trying to farm something, and there isn’t even a guarantee that they can get the item. It’s not like the items are going to be around forever, which would mean that eventually we would get it… it’s quite possible that someone could farm 100+ hours, get 100+ crates by June 11th, and not be rewarded for their efforts.

In the opposite end of the scale, someone who gets a drop on their second crate who doesn’t even really want the ticket, can’t even sell it to someone who is willing to put up the time/gold/ effort.

Kinda crazy.

the best thing to do is simply not want it. the sooner you focus on something else you want, the sooner you will forget about what you were unable to obtain. the random gamble system sucks, unless your willing to lose and get nothing in return, don’t do it.

agreed…it doesn’t really help you to get anything, but, well….I’ve been farming that area since the crate update about 2 weeks ago. I don’t care about the crates, or anything that drops in them. the skins are generally quite fugly, imo. I’m after T6 and rares and ecto, and piles of t5 that I can just sell. crap like that.

I got a ticket in my ~24th crate opened. never paid for one—and there you go. I used it to get a fugly greatsword. Every other crate was the shell/flower/fruit drop.

….now, if only I could have sold that ticket to OP for 600g, imagine how much happier the two of us would be? ><

wait a tic—how are these crab skins harder to get than the fused skins? you had to get keys to open those chests for fused skins and even with a poor drop rate in bl chests, you can’t simply get those keys like you can the southsun crates. They are only from random map completion drops, very specific story mission rewards, or gem store.

that’s it. the crates in southsun tend to drop like candy…more or less…and they are free. the time it took to “grind” to level 10 for bl keys is incomparable to the time it takes to get a handful of southsun crates.

just remember the sting next time they try to tempt you with RNG chests again, I learned my lesson after 150+ chest for a molten fused and still got nothing. I’ll never be fooled by anet again.

You’re not the first and you won’t be the last. However with the amount of complaints that these RNG boxes have caused perhaps they should be looked at in future, possible boost to the drop rates or offer the skins in the gem store. I’ll echo what others have said, people want the skins, people are willing to spend cash on the skins.. A money maker right there! Have the RNG boxes also for those that have gambling problems but expand the options for players.

It takes me about 40 minutes to get a BL key from doing the story line. For me at least, the chests don’t drop at a rate of one every 40 minutes. And I’m not very fast at it. Many people can get a key in 30 minutes, according to what they say on forums.

You might spend £600 and still only get 600 of the same bad cheap useless filler card that does nothing, and Wizards of the Coast still doesn’t owe you your money back.

I don’t know anyone who’s written to collectable card companies demanding a refund because they never got the card they wanted. I don’t know why people think since GW2 is all digital it’s somehow different than that, or that they owe us all an apology for the “RNG.”

I am too, which is why i wish they’d just get rid of them already.

Having them only available in crates was a great move for Anet, they have loads of people converting gold to gems, making the gold to gem price greater, and the gem to gold less by contrast. this stops people from wanting to buy gems for gold, as this has no benefit for Anet at all, so they buy gems with RL money, bringing Anet a profit, as the cash to gem price never changes, it seems much more appealing than spending all of your hard earned gold on a fraction of a chance at anything good
