A plea from someone stuck in the middle
inb4 OP gets slammed
I don’t think letting people keep the skin is feasible, but there is one suggestion that I’m surprised I haven’t seen forwarded. Obviously some people will complain, but there is never going to be a way to keep everyone happy:
Give some gems to the people who bought the skin.
That simple. Give say 400 gems (or 600 or 800) but let them keep whatever the new skin is. If they still don’t like it, they can trade it in for the difference. Effectively giving them a discount (or if feeling really apologetic, for free) on whatever the skin turns out to be. If they don’t want it, even discounted, then at least you tried (this latter complication is why giving a full discount might just be easiest).
Some people might say “why do they deserve free gems just for buying a skin?” Well, they don’t. They aren’t being given them because they deserve them, they’re being given them as an apology for ANet selling them something and then taking it away again (often after many other purchases of dyes etc. had been made).
This just seems like a really simple way of keeping gem store customers happy after a mistake, whilst still rectifying that mistake for everyone upset about the T3 reskin.
ANET made a mistake – it would be unfair to people who didn’t buy it during the limited time it was available to then give it to free.
Wait for the new skin – if you don’t like it I’m pretty certain you will get a in-game gem refund.
It is impossible to let that skin that was purchased stay as it matched cultural armor and broke the whole point of the skin system. If your character is human you can get the T3 skin (without the flames).
This is one reason why some people didn’t purchase it and were also very angry about it when it was released.

It isn’t a question of fairness, it is a question of making up for a mistake that affected certain people. The people who didn’t buy it during the limited time didn’t have their purchase taken off them, nor did they transmute/dye/buy new gear. ANet’s mistake upset players with original T3 and customers who bought the item. They’ve solved the first problem, and I’ve suggested a way to compensate for the second (because they can’t do what people want them to and let them keep the reskin).
Moreover, the solution I suggested makes ANet’s life easier. How exactly do they deal with a customer who bought the skins, used them on armour, and bought dyes or weapons to match it? Even a minimal solution that ignores the extra costs has to roll the armour back to its original state, and they have to deal with countless tickets explaining the various individual costs involved. My suggestions just sidesteps that entire issue except in cases where players got really screwed, which should be dealt with anyway. It also prevents the inevitable complaints that “The new armour looks much worse” because anyone stuck with it gets it discounted/free, so really can’t moan that much.
If you are unhappy with the new skin then ask for a refund. However it is completely unacceptable for you to keep the current skin, which is why it was removed in the first place.
Same thread again. Same discussions. Prepare for merging, I wager.

Do you understand that I and probably many others who bought the set have issues just like the original people who complained. The knee jerk pulling and the future replacement of the set only fix the people who had issues to start with.
I have issues with it being replaced without any say, I have to like it or ask for a refund. What I am asking for is another option, the gems aren’t the issue I bought the gems to buy this set of armour not some other set that ANet released.
If I like the replacement set I would most likely buy gems and purchase it. I just want the option to keep what I originally bought. Forcing players to wear a mistake that ANet made is bad business practice because I will think twice about purchasing anything from the trading post again secondly if this happens often enough many others will probably do the same.
Am I the only one that can see this?
