And there go the dyes....
I only had a handful and made 10 gold in less than 5 minutes…..suh-weet
I’m so happy, I can’t stop crying….

Will unid dyes stop dropping or something after feature patch?
I have Celestial on both my ele and my mes at this time. When I log onto my ele, Celestial now becomes account bound and available to all of my characters. When I log onto my mes, Celestial is already known and cannot be added again to my account bound colors. To compensate, I will get a free unidentified dye. If I had Celestial on say my necro, I would get another unidentified dye, since I already have that color in my palette.
This. This right here ^^^^
I don’t think there is an easier way to explain it. Kudos, Lanfear.
Will unid dyes stop dropping or something after feature patch?
They said they will not be dropping anymore, but they will still be available through rewards and crafting. There is no word whether they will remove them from Laurels
Also keep in mind that several players will have a chunk of unidentified dyes on patch day since they are handing them out for duplicates.
I’m so happy, I can’t stop crying….

I think it’s time I get paid and spend my entire check on gems.
Thank you anet!
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

Will unid dyes stop dropping or something after feature patch?
yes. They will only be available from the MF and the specific color packs from cooking. Also they mentioned as specific rewards for things, but I don’t know what that means.
and of course you can always buy them in the gem store.
Will unid dyes stop dropping or something after feature patch?
Unidentified Dyes will no longer drop after the feature patch. Currently the methods to get one besides drop:
Harvesting (small chance)
Black Lion Chest
Laurel merchant (10 for 5 laurels)
Dye Pack (200 Gems)
Mystic Forge
Whether or not it will remain from harvesting is unknown, but it’s highly likely in my opinion.

Can sell unid dyes right now for 65 62 silver each. Lower than it was but it seemed to have gotten stuck at that area. Just now it is starting to dip again toward 58-61 gold each.
So anyone with laurels that wants to make quick coin, trade 5 laurels for 10 unid dyes and sell them. 90 unid dyes (45 laurels) got about 53 gold at 65ish silver per dye.
edit
Dropping fast again after getting hung up at 62-65. Looks to get down to 53-58 in a couple minutes.

On top of the unid dyes, the garbage dyes have shot up over 10x (20s+ for the the cheapest) on the blog post.
I’ve already ranted in another topic so no need to do it again here, although the blog post was rather incompetent in this regard. I suspect J.Smith didn’t even get to read it.

I missed a bigger one sitting on 374 laurels, i’ll keep ’em.
So If one of my characters has all the dyes unlocked then I won’t have to relearn them correct? Wondering if a Dev could see this and respond with an official answer. It was a little misleading to me.

Correct, any dye you currently have unlocked on a character, will be account wide on patch day.
Any duplicates on alt characters, will give you 1 unidentified dye per duplicate.

Yea I’m not worried about it, 100 g i probably would of made I can just buy with gems if I really wanted to for 20 bucks witch is less then an hour of work . I’ll save the laurels as we’ll.

Keeping your laurels is a good move — you can’t get those back with cash or any other means (except time). In a way it’s the most valuable currency in game.

Every now and then there is — cough, ascended recipes, cough. If you spent them, you’re out of luck when ANet pushes those future changes out.

“When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.
If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account."
So does this mean, in order for us to make a dye account unlocked, we must buy the color and unlock it, and if we already had it unlocked on individual characters then we get an unidentified dye for each old character locked dye of that color?
So we must once again purchase a single dye of every color we want regardless of how many characters already have it unlocked?
I’m a bit confused as to what you’re asking. But from my understanding…
All dyes on your characters will be converted to account-wide. Any duplicates across characters will pop an unidentified dye into your inventory (for a chance at another color). Any dye used after the feature patch is implemented is also automatically account-wide.
Dude, I can see it now…
We’ll all login after the patch.
All the unid’ed dye credit bottles will start flowing into pack.
We’ll fill up our backpacks and dye bottles will EXPLODE all over the place.
There’ll be rivers of technicolor and glass shards in every capital.
Asura will drown in a rainbow and glass maelstrom!

Well yet another update that has really annoyed me, i was flipping dyes at the time, 1000g worth of them to be infact and all sold for 2 silver each. Had i had these in my inventory right now they would be worth around 15,000 gold at 30 silver each……argh.

Was that you that had a wall of like 350 of each dye at 1s 97c? Yeah, those and everything else below 30s were gone in under 10 minutes. It was crazy seeing the stock just melt away in front of my eyes.

Yup 1.97, all mine, 10,000s of them. Not only that, over night my wealth in armor/weapon skins has dropped by 4,000-5,000g due to the announcement of the Wardrobe.
Im the sort of player who just invested, played the TP but never really spent any of it, im still running around in exotics, dont have a single craft above 450. Looks like ill never get around to enjoying it before Anet takes it all away from me =’(.
100s of hours sat at the TP, for nothing, feel like such an idiot…
You still sold your dyes for a profit, right?

Tbh, if I was actively flipping dyes on the TP there’s no way I would list ALL of them when I know I will be away on a day like this. I mean, we all knew something major was gonna happen with dyes today, so your decision does seem a bit inconsiderate.
You annoyed yourself, is basically what I’m trying to say.

I do have to show you great respect right now for your level-headed reaction to this. So many people would rage and throw kitty cats at the screen and say they are quitting. You impress me. I know it is just a game, but many people seem to forget that all too easily and that there are more “important” things to get upset about or worry over in life. Thanks for not throwing any kittens at your screen.

Yeah im just not showing my rage :P, i have put 2,000 hours into this game and now i feel like that has been ripped away from me.
I however like to remind myself of when SWG shut down, 7 years of progress all gone. But hey i had fun throughout that time and thats all that mattered. Diablo 3’s new expansion also made alot of peoples $500-$5,000 gear sets worthless, so such killing updates are always happening, i have just come to accept that.
The time i have spent in GW2 has been amazing and i will continue to play, but i would be lying if i were to say this hasnt put me off spending considerable amounts of additional time in it.
I am however a little confused as to why such decision have been made by Anet. One of the first walls i hit upon reaching 80 at launch was “right lets go earn some cash and get some amazing skins”, they later added ascended gear grind as we all know but i honestly couldnt care for a total stat increase of 1-3%? Im not the stat gear grinder type, i even ran around in gold gear for the first 6 months of this games release, i just didnt care for stats.
Now this wardrobe / account bound dye system is coming into play, what will people run dungeons or farm events for? surely not those 150g duplicate skins/ 30g dyes for their alt, because now they can get if for £0.50 via an account bound transmute. Why would i now make two spinal blades or run the next living world several times for some tokens for an event skin. Just seems like Anet is shooting themselves in the foot when so much of their design philosphy has been built around the rarity/exclusivity of earning such skins.

Totally true!
But now that we’re done stroking your ego, GOD I’m glad that wasn’t me
Don’t worry, you could have never sold all of those dyes in time before the crash anyways. Unless you would have already had them listed at 10s, which doesn’t really make much sense unless you are psychic.

I never saw anything like the feeding frenzy this morning, kittening banana and natural dyes were being sold for 50 silver, it was CRAZY. The piranha ate the cow in like 20 minutes and then it was over….nothing left but bones.
For once, ONCE… I was actually online when the news hit. I immediately converted a large chunk of my spare Laurels to Unided dyes during the initial price spike.
So THIS is what it feels like to be able to profit from game patches.
Araleg’s story made me marvel at the sheer size of the GW2 market though. For that many dyes to disappear so quickly… Wow. It must have been a sight to behold.

People speak of having an event skin or some other event token to show off or prove (to others or themselves) that “they were there” and to remind themselves of a momentous Living Story event in the game. Despite not having an item or skin to prove I witnessed The Great Dye Run of 2014, this is the event I will think of when discussing momentous events happening in the world of GW2 to which I can say “I was there, I watched it happen.”

By the wording it uses, it sounds like you must unlock dyes again after the patch goes in.
No. Read it again:
All dyes on your characters will be converted to account-wide. Any duplicates across characters will pop an unidentified dye into your inventory (for a chance at another color). Any dye used after the feature patch is implemented is also automatically account-wide.
If everything reset with the patch, it would make no sense for them to make the whole “unid dye pop into inventory” thing because nobody would ever be able to get the same dye twice.
You know what to do with your worthless identified dyes now…
Basically identified dyes between now and up to april 14 might as well be considered future unidentified dyes (april 15th) if you have the alts to put them on.
But remember, you can only convert them to unided if you have the extra alts to create duplicates. So there is a limit to how many can be converted. If you don’t dispose of them by the 15th, say goodbye to your inventory value…
Dude, I can see it now…

It’s a self made mess — I hope ANet is enjoying the outcome. Every dye is less obtainable right now due to the price jumps.
I actually like the feature changes — it’s the handling of the information that is buffoonery. They should never release market impacting details before they are “live” in game.

These kind of short term spikes and falls will happen regardless of what and when the information is provided.
Had they held off until patch day, it would have been a price collapse instead of a spike and people would be equally [insert non-“kittened” word for “angry”… seriously, that was censored?] off.

I think you are oversimplifying it by calling it “short term spikes and falls”. The market is substantially different this morning than it was yesterday morning. How long it will remain substantially different is a question, but I suspect longer than would be classified as “short term”.
You seem intelligent pellion (from your other posts), so I’m sure you can imagine a number of different ways ANet could have handled this information to minimize market impact. You probably could envision an alternative implementation that would minimize market impact.
In addition there’s a significant difference between “interpreting a blog” and experiencing the changes “live” in game. Take this exact blog at face value and remove all mention of “receiving unid dyes for duplicates”. That would have minimized market impact now. It would have created fewer unid dyes at patch time. It would have minimized the market impact after the changes went live. I’m not sure how anyone could see this differently.

By “short term” I mean until the patch hits.
Once the patch goes live, people will get a huge influx of Unidentified Dyes. Many of those will be used in order to gamble on getting new colors. The duplicates at that point won’t be able to be converted into Unidentified Dye again, so they will either be dropped in the Mystic Forge for more gambling or sold on the Trading Post.
Since you no longer need to buy between 1 and 50 dyes (depending on the number of alts on your account), the demand for any given dye is now equal to the number of accounts, a much, much smaller number than the number of characters.
This means that after the patch disruption subsides, the price of individual dyes will begin to decline again because there is no demand for them.
The price of dye will be different in the future due to changes in supply and demand, but the prices we see today are the result of speculation and will dissipate once the gamblers are done on patch day.
It’s a self made mess — I hope ANet is enjoying the outcome. Every dye is less obtainable right now due to the price jumps.

What mess? Frankly this is a good thing.
The people who got in the first hour made a killing, yes, everyone else hording dyes after the first hour is going to lose money, the market will have HIGH SUPPLY, with NO DEMAND, once dyes go account bound no one has any reason to buy dyes ever again. Never. Ever. Again.
Also, the TP taxes are going to eliminate a large sum of money from the game.
Every time someone buys up supply, and relists it, TP taxes eliminate money from the game, this is a good thing to curb inflation.
Everyone has had close to 2 years to get most/all of the base dyes for next to nothing, if you missed out, well, good news, even at 20s they’re still not that expensive, it is a once off transaction for years to come, that’s well worth it imo.

Only people who have played for “close to 2 years” had that opportunity.
At 20s, it’s 10x as expensive as previous. Relative is probably what’s important here. You can argue about any price is “not that expensive” because it’s based upon the price, your current liquidity, and your desire for the item.
Making items in the game more expensive is not always a good thing. Someone’s increased value can be someone else’s increased expense.
In short the entire dye market just got more expensive. How is that good for the average player?
