Anet and Players Help for TP!?
http://oakvale.enjin.com
perhaps players were putting it in listed as different prices at the same time as you were?
What item was it? It might have been a bot messing with you. Happens on EVE, dunno about here.

Nope… We bought ALL of the listed Item. We rose the price TEN times the amount and the availability kept changing. It started 182 (that’s how much we bought) then it changed 108, then 127…. and our listed product price was NOWHERE to be seen. It went from 5s then 6s…. Availability is broken or something. If we had known that we wouldn’t have made the gamble. Arena Net, refund please?

and there’s a few thousand people using the trade post at all times, listing things in a bulk (just like you) for cheaper than you. And it will always be this way.
It was a sigil. Seriously though, Anet we aren’t the richest players in game, for the amount of funds we had, we wasted a ton of money on a mistake this game had.

With possible millions of accounts, it should not be surprising to see items listed to be bought or sold every few minutes, or even seconds. I know that sometimes I list crafting materials and they are sold as soon as I list them, and other times it takes minutes, hours, or even days for them to sell. It just depends on whether the item is in demand at the time.
It was a sigil. Seriously though, Anet we aren’t the richest players in game, for the amount of funds we had, we wasted a ton of money on a mistake this game had.
the mistake was yours to list the prices as 10X higher to begin with. Of course there will be people selling it far cheaper than you.

Really now? okay think clearly, please. We bought 182, Sold for 50s. Then availability popped 108. ( this here is the problem ) with only 108 available shouldn’t our listing be posted there as well? So since there was 108 we bought all of that and that made the availability 127. (Problem again, our listing was nowhere in sight) If there was so much more, shouldn’t the availability be 500+ or even +1000?
If it was ranged from 108-182 available, our post SHOULD be down at the bottom for 50s.

and how did you determine that it’s a bug and not people selling and buying at that time? You were able to buy the item for low price. Meaning that the item was indeed available to be bought of the trade post.
Speaking about available – didn’t it show “that much available for this price”? Because that what it normally shows me. How much is available for the lowest price, then when you click on the item there are further listings of people selling it more expensively.

Lemmie try to go into it with detail.
Availability of the item was 182.
We bought it all. Then sold for 50s.
Looked at TP and refreshed. It said Availability was 108.
We bought all and sold again.
Looked at TP and refreshed it said availability was 127.
Okay now here is the part where I determine it is a bug:
Even if the availability was at 108 and all the prices ranged from (estimated) 6s 13c – 6s 48c, our 50s item should be posted on the very bottom. Which it wasn’t. Availability says 127 available.. we posted 182. that should add up but TP was incorrect. I’m guessing there is way more than 127 and the TP is off, therefore since it’s not projecting the correct numbers, something isn’t right with it, that’s what I’m calling it a bug or mistake Anet has done that they didn’t notice or fix.

I’m curious at the “bought (all)” comment. Not many things on TP aside from legendarys have so few available that you can buy (all).
Also the TP is cross server, meaning every server is using the TP at once. You can check http://www.gw2spidy.com/ to see the rates and things. As well as more information on individual items.

so let me get this straight:
you didn’t just check availability (because that would only display the number of the cheapest listed), but did scroll down trough all of the higher prices (that wouldn’t have shown up on initial availability) and couldn’t find yours? Did you think about writing a bug report then?

you press on the item as if you were going to buy it, then it comes up with a list on the right side. The item marked (the bulk you would be buying from) is the cheapest listed one, however you’re able to scroll that list down and see how much of the item is listed for what price.

The TP does not list every item sometimes. If you click buy all ectoplasm you will probably count a few thousand, when clearly there is wayyy more than that. It only shows up to a certain amount, check BLT chests to see what i mean, or simply list the item and people can help further.
2,777,233 in buy all option. But 2,922,119 are available. This specific item is sold in huge quantities so I imagine they are grouped better than say ectos or armor which may have 100’s of sellers at different prices.

To give you fair warning, ArenaNet typically does not take action (i.e. reimburse funds) on the vast majority of buyer error cases like this. You can certainly submit a ticket, but don’t expect the end result of the ticket to be in your favor.

This is NOT a bug. The TP only list the cheapest 20 prices(or a number similar to it).
For example, if there are 30 of the same item on the TP, each with 1c apart in price, only the cheapest 20prices will show and the most expensive 10 will not.
Also, attempting to manipulate a market, even a small one, with little capital is usually not a good idea. This is especially true if you attempted to raise the price to such unrealistic level.

This is what I was getting at, but I don’t know the limit for sales shown. But you can clearly see this with something like Unidentified dyes, no way is there only 1073 in stock acrossed every server.
38585 available. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20323
And yet as you can see below 2926 are available for purchase. Thousands possible millions of transactions are occurring every second. Playing the TP is a play at your own risk game.

That’s a rather harsh way to put it. If he listed the item for 10x their original amount and it sells, then it means that the item was undervalued all this time. If it doesn’t then the seller will lose money, which they had in this case, for overvaluing their goods.
Their mistake is not trying to screw people over, rather overvaluing their goods (also lack of capital to certain degree).

They don’t list how much of an item is available. How was I supposed to know that the amount listed “available” was only a small portion of how much there really was? You see some items list +1000 so from that you would be able to determine, this is something we shouldn’t attempt. But when it lists 182, you think hey this is a good opportunity. We went by what the trading post listed.

It’s not written within the game and i agree to a certain extend that these information should be made more available in a convenient manner. However, like the TP sales tax of 10%, this rule is not written and is something that needs to be observed.

I find it surprising that folks still think it’s possible to buy up all the supply. Right on the front page of the TP where it lists the top supplied/demanded items, it shows multiple millions in volume. And yet the penny doesn’t drop.

This is why I am a little upset with Anet because they do not give out all the necessary information to players so they can understand exactly what they are doing. Of course things are learned over time, but Anet should do a better job at putting down info on the game so players, such as myself, don’t make mistakes that can cost them..

This is what happens when you try to screw people over, I hope that you and your friend lost all your gold.
And by the looks of it some lack of understanding some basics about the TP.
And where does Arena Net put down the info on all this?
It’s not written within the game and i agree to a certain extend that these information should be made more available in a convenient manner. However, like the TP sales tax of 10%, this rule is not written and is something that needs to be observed.

But if you are going to do something risky like play the market, you need to ensure you have all the information possible to do so. It is much like a person buying 500 stocks of microsoft, or sony, and thinking they will be rich. Or trying to day trade with 500 dollars in your account, which will receive you slams of warnings. Playing the TP assumes that you know it in depth, and with that in depth knowledge you acquire ways of flipping certain things or making profit. Without trying to sound entirely rude, it isn’t on Arenanet to ensure you are a skilled TP player. Most the TP information you need in an everyday setting IS available online, beyond that you need a depth of knowledge not everyone has, or wishes to have.

I agree with you there, but the thing is I THOUGHT I had all the information I needed. I THOUGHT that the available listed was the actual total amount across the BLTP. Unfortunately I didn’t have all the information I needed, and I still hold on tight to blaming Anet for not making it clear that the availability listed was not the total amount across all servers. I still want me refund; and add a shake with some fries with that.

Did the TP give you false information? No it didn’t, it stated that there were x amount of items available in that range of prices.
YOU foolishly assumed that it was all the supply currently available in the market.
Your own fault and now you’re paying for it.
Why should it give you the information of the total amount of items currently in the market?
So it makes it easier of you to manipulate that particular market?
Apart from you and your friend would anyone have anything to gain if that information was made available to the public?
Not being able to see the total amount makes it harder to corner any market which is a good thing for all the other players.
By all means flip as many items as you like or craft in order to get some gold out of the TP, but this sort of manipulation doesn’t benefit anyone but yourself.
Oh wow. I can’t believe I missed this gem of a thread yesterday.
Definitely fair. I think being punished for attempting something this risky without fully researching everything is completely and fair. Gotta punish impulsiveness and stupidity somehow, eh?
By the way, even if assuming you were able to “buy out” all the supply for this Sigil, I highly doubt your investment would’ve paid off considering the high volume of transactions for these Sigils. There’s also the possibility that as the server is carrying out your purchases, more of those commodities is listed. Again, high volume market. Won’t be surprised.
John Smith has stated multiple times that people highly underestimate the sheer volume of trades that go through the TP. Heck, even something as pricey as Dusk still sell… what was it, 11 or 15 copies a day? Trying to corner a market on the T kitten heer folly.
You gotta think of all the people in gw who are doing the same thing- since market is game wide.
and at the rate of whatever this item drops.
