Anet you are throwing money away..
Just keep in mind that what appeals to one person may not appeal to the next. I think the Toxic Mantle skin looks ridiculous, but the number of people I’ve seen wearing it argues that it appeals to some people. I think the Profane set looks awful, but I still people wearing it.
It’s not just about preference. The selection is severely limited. It is rather clear that they’re going for the “currently featured” model where they throw up one item/style and then everybody buys that, then another and everyone buys that, ad infinitum. In addition, they have also latched onto the “limited time” mantra, creating an artificial scarcity and sense of urgency which has almost always proven effective in short-term marketing. They use this for many of the incidental items.
The latter wouldn’t be so bad if the permanent selection was greater, but I still consider it a very tacky method to encourage interest in one’s goods. If it’s something done every now and again to mark a special time, sure, but that’s almost invariably never the focus.
So what if it works on the sheeple; is it really what creates the best game experience?
I’m with the OP. More stuff. More choices. If you’re going to re-skin anyway, or base your items off existing items, offer up some simple stuff that doesn’t sell for ten dollars. Perhaps since they’re building from existing skins anyway, it may allow a better mix and match ability than what many of the items currently offer.
A bit of creativity would go a long way, I was hoping for some new and exciting content, all I got to see was two ugly armors and the re-skin of the tier 3 cultural exclusive armor for humans.
i agree with OP .
the heavy armor sets in Gem Store are awful for human males (i can say most of the heavy for humans are awful , but what ever ). the only armor set there i liked is the medium krytan for my charr thief that i will buy it when he goes 80 and i can not find a better one or the same.
p.s. most of the players that i know want a rune/sigil extractor and they will use any gems for this tool …. but, wait we have keys to buy :p

That’s right. Do you have any idea how much money you are losing by not making decent armor skins for the gem store ? Or even decent town clothes.
The style of the added light armor sets that have been added after release have been very ho-hum boring. Hell I play a female mesmer and I’ve been xmuting my lvl1 starter skirt forever. I like some of the other stuff. But none of the newer stuff. Wow its been bad.
If you look at a game like Tera , crazy armor bikinis aside , the choices of light armor is light years ahead of gw2. Tera is a pretty bad game , that’s true but they make up for it with a crazy good art team for town clothes and armor.
You can make a fortune if you get a real art team in there and design some nice stuff.
I know I for a one have spent 200$ ez on gems so far. Every patch I look at the new skins ready to buy. I would glady pay top $$ for some nice looking stuff.
I’m not alone anet, most of the people I play with go crazy for new exciting armor skins. You are basicly losing money every time you fail to put up some must have skins.
I know Tera online stinks , but I’ll say it again. That game gets by on style alone. Armor/town clothes gem shop are light years ahead of what we have in gw2.
HOW ABOUT YOU GO MAKE ME A SONG OF THE DAY AND STOP POSTING HERE LIKE A PVE SCRUB!
J/k, love ya Obs and yes your clothes are way outdated!
[Bags]
Ebay << What a mistake.
Yes I know , but with such limited options that look good its very frustrating to see them release such trash time after time.
I wanna pay .. But there isn’t anything I even like a little enough to buy.
More choices = more profit for Anet. Without question they would make more money.
I’m not a fan of all the flames, skulls, and steam punk. Where’s some more flare and fashion sense? Not to mention sleek and chic. My four light armor’s have been using the same Embroidered pants since launch. If only I could launder them with some bleach to clean them up!!!!
This is definitely one of the worst problems plaguing the game right now.
Stagnation of aesthetics choices is not healthy for a game whose endgame is based mostly on grinding for aesthetics.
See my signature for what I think would be the ideal solution:
TL;DR: Give the community the tools and infrastructure, and we’ll make better skins at a faster pace than any professional team of artists anyone can possibly assemble, as has been proven in other games like Dota 2 and TF2. Players will have an endless supply of great skins to choose from and progress towards. Content Creators get acclaim and income from popular skin creations. And ANet gets a majority share of the revenue from selling skins on the Gem store, and can turn their in-house artists’ focus to creating timed content-related skins and artwork, which is a much better use of their time.
