I wanted to buy some keys today for my 119 black lion chests, then I found out it would cost me over £100, I didn’t even think it would come close to £40 let alone £100, 1 key costs 125 gems whereas 5 transmutation crystals cost 200, so I wanted to know what other people thought of this, they only point for black lion chests seems to me to fool people into thinking they might get that great 1 or 2 items in them so they keep getting money, I appreciate this is a game that needs money to run as we all only paid once, but to me this just seems underhand and greedy.

If you want blc keys, save a character slot and go keyrunning. Perfectly legal as far as anet goes (they’ve stated you’re investing time in return for the “loot”), and it’s a nice break from mindless farming of events.

Whether they are too expensive is a good question, but the loot from chests is horrible. I bought a few and learned my lesson.

They are not too expensive. They are exactly as expensive as ArenaNet wants them to be.

On the other hand, many players “perceive” the “value” of these keys to be “too high” based on the “quality” of “loot” they receive when those keys are used.

Just know that every time a player uses a key to open a Black Lion Chest, they receive something. Don’t listen to any player claiming that they “didn’t get anything” when they opened the chest. They are lying. What they’re really saying is: “I didn’t get what I wanted when I opened the chest.” or “I didn’t get anything of value to me when I opened the chest.”

The “value” of the items in the chest are purely subjective based on the reasons why the player opened the chest.

Meh, there’s no need to throw a bunch of concepts on him.

Suffice to say that the consensus is that BLC returns, in case you got the means to buy them through playing the game, could be better as you can get stuff with 5x market value for the same price of a few keys.

Black Lion Chests have significantly more value when you first start playing the game as they provide boosters and other items that are beneficial to low level characters.

Once you’ve hit 80 though, the value of the majority of the items hits 0. This means that while a few items are still quite sought after (the rare ones), your keys are realistically only going to net you more things you no longer need.

the keys are about 4 times as expensive compared to individually buying the things you get out of them directly. But some people like to gamble, and they may end up spending $1 and getting something worth $100. But for every one that gets that, there are 400 that don’t.
