I have no problem with the skin being soulbound per character but what really stinks is that if I want to get this new armor I have to lose the phoenix armor because the set is celestial and the runes are traveler. I would have to pay over 70 gold to replace the runes and 30 days of making the stupid celestial crystals to use this new armor skin. It is cheaper for me to buy a new phoenix set than to use the transmutation splitters and the cost/time of the set I am currently using are too high to make again.

Can we please have armor/weapon skins that are gem store items available more than once on a character that has unlocked it?! Make it character bound if you want it on more than 1 character then by all means make us buy more but for the same character it is not right.

I know this has been asked multiple times but the cost is getting to high to get new sets for each skin. I would think you would sell more skins if people did not have to factor in the rune/stat costs every time they wanted a new look.

Yes, please!

Skins bought in the gem store should appear in the same menu the Zenith weapons do.

I was just thinking about ascended armor.. there is no way I plan on having more than 1 set if it is like the weapons.. so I really hope that there is a better system in place for changing our look!

This is my bank from just 1 character’s outfits (1 set is in her bag as well) . I suppose I could salvage them but some take months to get or I paid for from the gem store and do not just want to get rid of them. I would gladly use transmutation stones if there were a way to not lose these skins I hope it is something you all are looking into not only for bank space but for those like me that like to change their look frequently but are prohibited by the cost of the gear and runes.

It really is a racket. If they made the transmutation splitters a reasonable cost (or free, which is what they should be) there would be no problem. This is the absolute worst MMO I’ve ever seen as far as cost of wardrobe and/or build changing is concerned. My recommendation is to just find a very versatile build and a look you like, and stick with it. It’ll only get worse when ascended armor comes out.

Well it is not so much the build.. I honestly went celestial because I got tired of changing that part. It is that I love changing my outfit. Maybe I am alone in this aspect? I doubt it though. I just wish in a game about cosmetics that it was more thought out about how to let characters change their armor appearance. I understand the transmutation crystals as a gem store item for income… but really this needs to be redone. The fact that runes can cost over 70 gold and the exotic gear is 18-30 gold makes changing your appearance very costly outside of the gemstore.

I have bought every dye.. gotten almost every armor and a quite few weapons skins because I find it fun to change things up.. which is something that was suppose to be part of this game. The fact that it costs me 100 gold on top of the armor cost to get a new armor set to play with is crazy. There has to be a better way.

How can the transmutation splitters being higher than the cost of a armor set be justified?! In all honestly significantly lower that price and it can all be fine— and by significantly it should be lower than 1/3 the cost of a skin set imo.

You are not alone jazz. I’d love to change more outfits more frequently, but I just don’t have the space or gold for it.

I refuse to buy anything that ends up soulbound from the gem store.

The simple reason is that I have EIGHT characters, one of each class. I will, eventually, have 11 characters, one of each gender of each race. (I have two human females as I was suffering from Nolan North burn-out at the time I created them.)

I don’t want to pay 800 gems for a pickaxe that can be used by only one character. A calculation that would have changed if all 8 could equip it (like the reward skins).

I don’t want to buy an outfit that costs 800 gems for just one character. A calculation that would change if all of that armor class could equip it (even though I doubt I would, it’s the point of the matter), like the reward skins.

I certainly don’t want to play the dye lottery, and pay thousands of gems, to complete the dyes for all 8 characters. Though I might think differently if I had one shared dye pallet.

OTOH, I have spent thousands of gems in the gem store. (3 character slots, 3 inventory panes, at least a half-dozen BL kits, minis, etc.) I’ve also purchased thousands of gems for my daughter’s account.

But what I’ve purchased has almost always had ‘complete account’ benefit, either directly or indirectly. And it’s like this because I’m not ‘just’ THE one character, I’m THE ACCOUNT. All the characters are mine and I, like a good parent, refuse to play favorites…

I also, as a consumer, refuse to be exploited. And this ‘soulbound’ decision, in my book, pushes past my acceptable limit. So, I don’t buy. YMMV.

Before GW2 came out, I’ve always had a different impression on how they’d do the armor. I always thought that every armor piece you get is how it is, but you can use the transmuation stones to make a specific piece of armor a “costume” type piece. Like have 2 armor sets in your character menu, one for the stats, and the other for the look. Then you can change a zerker piece for a knights without having your char look any different. The costume pieces can only be placed in the costume slots, and the stat armor like wise. If nothing is in the costume slot, your character will take the appearance of the stat armor instead. But I was wrong.

After playing Guild Wars 1 for several years and being used to their costume system, it was a grave disappointment to encounter the inflexible Guild Wars 2 system. For a game that’s built on cosmetics, the town clothes are either poorly thought out or it’s a system that’s highly monetized. If monetized, it’s too highly monetized for the good of the game imo.

For those who didn’t play Guild Wars 1, the costumes (that games version of town clothes) overlaid your armor. What that means is, you could wear any costume on top of your armor, still have all stats and weapon skills, and wear it in combat. There was an NPC who stored your armor for you and gave you copies of them upon request This meant each character had access to any costume you bought at any time. You never had to store it in the bank. You never had to worry about accidentally deleting it and losing forever what you paid for. It made changing your armor appearance easy and convenient.

For those who say costumes break immersion. Bows that shoot unicorns with the ANet logo on them. Tybalt backpacks. Wings. Quaggan backpacks. A mace that looks like a dico ball. People doing modern dances from Earth such as the Charleston or Everyday I’m Shuffling. Charr doing a human tribal dance. Etc, etc…

In addition, costumes don’t need to be ‘goofy’. They can look like armor or robes. They could give a way to vary appearance while not hurting others immersion.

Some actual costumes from Guild Wars 1. All of these were wearable in combat over your armor and were dyeable. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume
