Not sure if this should be under bugs or TP, so I’ll post it under TP and the mods can bounce it back and forth.

Why am I amble to purchase Bank Tab and Bag Slot Expansions if I’m already maxed out for them? The other limited items don’t let you and instead say “You have already purchased the maximum number of this item.” I just saw these 2 and thought there was a stealth update that increased how many of these you can have. Luckily I read the info and counted how many I have before purchasing, but I’m sure some people have bought too many of them. (Or did they actually increase the limit but not change the text?)
Same applies to Digital Deluxe Upgrade… already bought it and it’s still available.

I don’t think there’s a particular reason besides some coding peculiarities from the past. Meanwhile, to be on the safe side, it’s better to unlock tabs/bags by clicking on the lock icons in respective places as those won’t be active otherwise.

I’ve done this before. Submit a ticket with Support and you’ll get a refund.

Per above, it has been argued that rather than letting you actually BUY these in the gem store, the advertisement should POINT you to buying them via the unlock tabs in your inventory and storage windows in order to make the purchase. Those don’t show up at all if your maxed (so it could be confusing), but not sure why this matters if you are maxed and can’t buy one anyway.

The fact that you can’t gift these upgrades to other players also supports this change (there is NO reason to buy these via the actual Gem Store page).

regarding programming the cap: as far as I know, nothing had caps when these items were first introduced (at the start of the game? they’ve been there as long as I’ve used the TP). But since then, there have been gem store items that do have limits on how many you can buy. sometimes a limit of 1, sometimes more:
crafting license (3), home instance node packs (1 each), collection expander (5), free items (1 each).
It seems the code is there, just that bank and bag expansions were added before that code was used, so they weren’t updated to the new capabilities of the gem store. I hope it’s an easy update to include them, but maybe not. I look forward to seeing this updated

I don’t like that there are caps. You should be able to buy as many as you want regardless of the current scenario. My main account got hacked last year and Anet never returned my bank collections size when my account was restored. So I cannot even buy them again because I am capped on something I don’t own. Ive sent in support tickets but some 10-12months later, no fix, no reply.

Unfortunately this isn’t easy to implement or else it would have been. The reason is that those two items (bank tab and bag expansion) are the only two items you can purchase through the gem store AS WELL AS in-game. The gem store is essentially a web app that runs completely separate from the rest of the game. For all the stuff you can only get through the gem store, a cap is possible because that app has access to the info of how many you already purchased (the collection expander being a prime example). But if you ever bought a bag slot or bank tab in-game, the game server would directly add that slot/tab and deduct the appropriate amount of gems from your account without the gem store app ever knowing about it. So of course it would be possible to add a cap on bank tabs to the gem store, but that would only apply to bank tabs purchased there, and you’d still be able to purchase more than you can actually use if you’ve ever bought a bank tab in-game before.

Same here, I got an item, but had max bank tabs already. Got a refund without problems. Good customer service on this.
