So what’s the best way to make money with all the 120 ectos I’ve collected through salvaging? I have all crafting skills maxed would like to know what to do with them to maximize profit besides straight up selling them.

I usually generate 3-4 stacks of ectos per week through salvaging the right rare items (for profit). I usually sell them as the most profitable ways to craft ectos into something different usually include spending other currency like skillpoints, karma or dungeon tokens. The Return of Interest on those account bound currencies is way better in ways that dont involve ectos, so i usually sell them.

For selling i have 1 advice. ectos fluctuate in price quite heavily, usually 5-10% per day, with buy and sell order usually 2-3 silver apart.

When selling ectos, i usually wait until the difference between buy and sell orders is in that range and sell 1-2s above the lowest seller. They usually sell within a couple of hours anyways due to the price fluctuation.

Your best bet is probably to watch the prices carefully and sell them at the right time.

Ectos can also be salvaged into crystalline dust and essence of luck in varying amounts.

salvaging into dust then selling the dust will net you a little less gold than just selling the ecto (about 1s), but it will gain you luck.

do a bit of research before you sell them. ectos change price so quickly and by so much that you can list for more than the lowest sell listing and still sell them in a reasonable time (less than an hour). check http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721 for the highest sell price within the past day or so for a guide at where you should sell them. (as an example: current price is about 30s. but was selling at 32s around 15 hours ago – ectos bounce a lot)

That’s interesting… what in the world is generating so many ectos? I have not been getting nearly enough from the puppet event to think that is causing the massive supply spike…

I guess people are starting to wind down on the ascended crafting and thus just selling all their ectos?

I posted this pic yesterday, the supply rise started the beginning of December (6th I think). So either the number actually purchased daily dropped or generation spiked or both.

People quit making Ascended armour because the cloth mats are so stupid.

Not really generating any more but I’ve filled up my collections again since buying the expanders.

Also like the other person mentioned I don’t really have any real use for ectos any more. Not bothering to craft any more stuff.

I’ve always just put them in TP for a price around their highs. some times it takes a day or 2 or even a week but they sell in the end.

that depends. are ectos common in jewel crafting? if yes then very likely will see a sharp spike in the early release. if no, likely will still see a spike from people expecting it.
