Better long term investment
This would depend entirely on whether or not the Mad King Chest recipes continue to be valid after Halloween is over. If it is, then I would sell the Greatsaw NOW, and wait to buy the others. As time goes by, more and more skins will enter the market, and you can expect to see prices tumble accordingly. As such, the smart thing would be to take your profits now while the prices are still high.
Of course, if the recipe STOPS working after Halloween, then you can expect to see the opposite, with prices shooting up and probably peaking before Wintersday, when public interest will switch to the new skins, and Halloween skins will probably fall and settle until next year’s Halloween rolls around again.
So, it’s a gamble. Do you think the recipes will continue working? Or stop? It’s a 50-50 chance. Place your bet.
you cant craft a greatsaw. That said you can craft the others but the kicker here is that you can buy a crossing for 20 gold, but the mats to craft one are like hundreds of golds for the holloween items, which is why the dilemma. I think im going to ride it out with the greatsaw skin and try to sell it for 75 gold plus down the road.
and to answer your question yes the recipe’s will stay valid forever, just a matter of the mats.
I would sell the skin. And even sell it now.
- My guess is that the price of the skin will go up in the future, because there is such a low supply. But there is also a low demand. Not alot of people will sink so much gold into that particular look.
So, it is entirely possible that no one will buy it of the TP for months. But then you’re in trouble, because you do not know what skin they will come up with for christmas. For Valentine. For Eastern.
- It also depends on your ‘inventory’. If this is your only high end item that you can sell, you can not take the risk, I think.
If you had 4-5 of that type of items, you could take the risk. Even if one of them fails to sell, you’re still okay. Selling such high-end items is very lucrative, but you need to have a certain number of them, else failing on one item is a catastrophy.

Update to this situation, still sitting on the skin. 48 hours ago there were like 63 of these, now there are 14. Either people are buying them for use or somone is hoarding them. Either way its looking like a good thing that i held onto it so far. Still really contemplating selling and buying multiples of those other items, but havent pulled the trigger yet, keeping a close eye on all as prices are rising as we get closer to the event end. I’ll keep u posted.
Well seems quite a few things factor in here, both on the demand and the supply side.
In terms of demand, the bow and Greatsaw may be the most sought after, followed by the staff and finally the shield. Looking at gw2spidy.com, the number of sell listings for the items do not seem to differ all that much (around 40 available, but indeed there’s a sharp drop for Greatsaw recently). The higher price for the Greatsaw in my opinion indicates that it’s more sought after / more in demand. Looking at the popularity of the greatsword legendaries, I think betting on the Greatsaw makes sense…
With regard to crafting; it is true that one can craft the other weapons after Halloween ends, but I don’t consider this a viable option for 2 reasons:
1) The materials needed drop only during Halloween. In particular, the craft needs 2000 candy corn even if one already has all the required recipes. To craft these weapons in bulk, you’d need to stock up on candy corn big time.
2)The material costs are insane for an exotic (around 150G+) and I doubt people will spend such an amount of resources on a single exotic item. Those who do, will probably keep the item for themselves rather than trade it.
In any case, I don’t expect a bulk of these weapons to appear after Halloween nor do I think people would be willing to pay the material cost. The craftable versions were just a big mistake on ANet’s part (which they tried to fix by making them random drops).
That said, your question pretty much boils down to: do I want to gamble on 1 highly sought after skin (Greatsaw) or 2 somewhat less sought after skins (Crossing + Arachnophobia). Hard to give a good answer, but I’d at least wait until Act 4 is nearly over to see how prices develop for the weapons…

personally i would go with the crossing and the arachnophobia, they’ve stated that the mad king dungeon will only be for 1 more day whereas black lion chests (and mad king chests) will more than likely be available until the end of the Halloween event which i believe is the 7th?
i know the 2 exotics can drop from the labyrinth but that’s only 2 attempts at getting one of them, if you factor in the cost that they take to make which is over 100g a piece(poster above says 150g which might well be true) as well as dungeon tokens you’re looking at a sale of pretty much at least 100g per
edit: wow just noticed that the skins gone up too 70g+, if you’re feeling luckittenep onto it!
word filter kind of broke my last edit.. if you’re feeling lucky, keep onto it
