Hey all!

I wasn’t sure what section to post this in so i figured that the Black Lion Trading Co. might be the appropriate place. I wanted to share with you all a video that I just uploaded that shows my take on getting Black Lion Chest Keys faster. I basically get a group of 4-5 people in a party and level up enough to get the level 10 mission and then restart and do the same process. Eventually it starts feeling fun and sort of “speedrunny”. It reminds me of The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time Speedruns (and other games) that I would watch on Twitch.TV every now and then. Anyways let me know what you guys think. Any feedback is appreciated and please feel free to drop a comment if you might have other better and faster ways to get to (and complete) the lvl 10 story missions! :P

This was nice of you to do, but honestly, it’s currently not very efficient.

“30-50 minutes per run” hmm….

If the gold faucets dry up, then alright. But right now I could make in 1 hour with my thief farming Deadeye 4gambits 36g pure profit with constant back to back fights. That’s at least one bundle of five keys I can get from the gemstore. Maybe even two packs of 5, depending on whether or not the exchange rate holds around 4g for 100gems.

Looks like you picked the poor parents option at character creation.

I tried all options, for all races, at one time (I wanted all avenger bow and greatsword skins :P). I found the human commoner option the easiest. Not a lot of traveling around and easily done with a non-leveled character. Without doing anything besides the PS, I reach lvl6 and finish the lvl10 quest without any problems (solo, should even be easier with a group).

My experiences are the same as LadyRhonwyn. Human commoner is much shorter/faster/easier. My personal preference is to use a ranger w/shortbow (tried warrior and didn’t like it as much). I can finish it in 30 minutes or less, solo, and underleveled (usually level 6 by the end).

I almost always get black lion keys from WvW map completions – you might try adding a quick stroll around your world’s borderland after collecting your personal story key.

Run Warrior and put on “twink” gear if you have the Digital Deluxe Edition (for the personal banker). Basically, purchase level 0 Chainmail armor and put in any Runes that give Power (make sure they are diverse and not the same, you don’t want the 2nd minor bonus). Put on a Polla of Might (adorned ruby jewel) and a Hero’s Band if you have it (don’t bother putting anything inside).

Put on a Greatsword of Justice (+3% damage to bandits), but keep your Sword on hand.

Unlock skill 2 on your Sword in the tutorial.

Put on your Greatsword and cleave everything.

When running where you need to go (from the Waypoints, since there are parts you need to run) use Greatsword 5 + Greatsword 3 + Sword 2 to move fast. Don’t bother with the Warhorn as you shouldn’t bother grinding up enough mobs to unlock the Swiftness.

Sounds like people put in more effort than they need to to farm keys.Here is a very easy guide.Make a ranger and choose bear and commoner and sister path. Then do the intro and after port to garri to get the skill point there and unlucked troll urgent. Buy a short bow from the tp and go feed some cows and water some plants. Now just do the story quests until you get your key.

Warrior is faster, and you don’t need to pick sister or whatever since you don’t go that far into the storyline.

Might be but since you mentioned twinking which all cant do i thought i would let people know there is an alternative. All i have to do is get one sp(which you port to) and buy one weapon and im set.I finish it all well under 20 minutes.

You can twink a Ranger, but it won’t get the mobility a Warrior gets from Sword 2 + GS 5.

I’ve never found mobility to be enough of an issue to warrant warrior over ranger. It only costs 5c to port around and the longest run you have is from Divinity’s Reach to the bandit cave, which isn’t that far.

Plus, I don’t have to unlock anything on shortbow. I can get by solely on the bleed from auto attack, anything else is just a bonus. I guess if you have the personal banker (I don’t) and can start out with GS then unlocking #5 isn’t that difficult, but otherwise it’ll take longer than going through the personal story. I often don’t even have #4 unlocked before the end.

Me and my friends are doing this very often
Before you create the character, buy a green hammer with no lvl requirement, it costs nothing and is way stronger than any other weapon. If you group up, all buy hammers and send them to each other.

Now create warrior human + common, and take the hammer out of your message and start.

@Heartquest feed cows until u have ~1/3 left and then shower flowers

@Fight in Pub, kill the first 2 guys and then pull the next 2 guys to the last guy in the upper floor, you can kill them all at the same time.

Choose hospital its way easier

If everyone knows the way a run will take ~20 minutes, thats rly no problem with hammer.

And if you have long loading screens, put your graphics to 0

After you finished the run you can send the hammers to each other and start over again

Another vote for human/commoner.

I’ve tried all the classes and engineer is the fastest. Run speed (1/3 chance from elixer H) and go Pistol/Pistol. Going to trading post or weapon merchant just slows you down, it can be done with the starter pistol and one you get as a reward.

Other classes rely on a lucky drop or a trip to TP to get a ranged weapon, and you need range to do the burning hospital stage at level 4.

You guys know you can just buy those keys on the gem store right?

Yes, but I’m not about to pay rl cash to get something I could earn in game.

Now thakittens raining loot in the last 2 updates its probably better to just zerg the clockwork mobs to earn gold and buy gems.

Just a couple of additions if you are ocd and want to get the maximum speed.

Most classes get only one or no headpiece and shoulder piece. And the one they do receive has no extra stats or upgrade slot. With transmutation splitters you can now get around this. If you have an account where new toons get the golem banker then use a unversal “skin” such as the halloween mask or clockwork mantle skin on a piece of armor from the trading post. Then use a transmutation splitter to receive back a level 0 armor piece in place of the original skin with a level 0 req and higher stats than the starter armor and with an upgrade slot to boot. This also works with a backpack skin (although it will have 0 stats, it will have an upgrade slot that can take an adorned jewel – if you are really really compulsive about getting every single stat point you can)

And, frankly, it doesn’t matter which class you choose or which weapons. The last two missions of the commoner human story line have npcs to help you and for anything before that you are pretty much overpowered if you have all your upgrade slots filled.
