I’ve opened a fair few chests over the months and I get this feeling of “meh” every time I do. There’s never any excitement when I open them because I know that nothing important will be in there. The only drop that I hope for are the ultra rare drops like the contracts or the tonics, but they’re so rare no one actually knows how rare they even are.

To make these chests more fun, I think there’s a whole bunch of amazing possibilities for items that can drop. These would all be rare drops, but the less powerful they are, the less rare they are. And you could trade these on the trading post as well. Here are some of the ideas I have and feel free to add some if you think of any.

Permanent Portable Laurel Vendor
Permanent Portable Dungeon Vendor (dungeons+fractals)
Permanent Portable Crafting Stations (one for each profession)
Permanent Portable Basic Merchant (doesn’t sell items, but will buy items from you)
Permanent City Portal (like to LA, or Divinity’s Reach)
Permanent Dungeon Portal (teleports you to Cof, AC, etc.)
Permanent Finisher Moves (like the cow finisher or the Super Adventure Box Finisher)
Permanent Salvage Kit (of each type or just the basic)
Permanent Guild Vault
Endless Repair Canister
Endless Transmutation Stone (1-79)
Endless Transmutation Crystal (1-80)
Endless Banners (with a set cooldown of whatever time Anet deems best)
Endkitten x of Fun (apparently saying Endless and Box of Fun together is censored )
Endless Tonics (like the already existing ones but more types)
Endless Fun Items (like fireworks)

For people that don’t know, there’s already similar, but extraordinarily rare items in chests that I’ll also list.
Endless Mystery Tonics (can turn you random objects)
Permanent Trading Post Contract
Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract
Permanent Bank Contract

You mean like the feeling of opening a Mann Co. Crate? Oh wait, it’s the same feeling, you just didn’t spend [as much] real money on the MCC’s.

I doubt they’d introduce the transmutation stone or repair ones even though it’d have barely any effect on their bottom line. The dungeon vendor one sounds pretty cool and convenient

Dont forget they have the endless hair stylist contract now.

My problem isn’t so much the items inside, but I just never have any kitten keys to open them. I still have like 100 chests from when they dropped like candy at launch. Buying keys of the Gem Shop isn’t exactly cost effective xD. Can’t tell you the last time I got one off a drop. I’ve gotten lucky the last few maps I’ve completed with a key instead of stones, but that’s it.

They really should copy the TF2 model. Have a chance at a very very rare item that everyone will see.

i.e. including legendary dyes as a super rare drop in BL chests.

1 key is 125 gems. 80 gems = $1. 125 gems = $1.50.

5 keys is 450 gems. 80 gems = $1. 450 gems = $5.60. 1 key = $1.15.

$1 per key… haha… total rip off

I’m not 100% certain, but I’m relatively sure that the permanent contracts were nothing to do with Black Lion Chests. They dropped from the rare Wintersday boxes.

I’d certainly like it if the chests had more exciting and useful items like the ones suggested, just feel I should point out that the items of the same sort in the game already didn’t come from the chests. (Or so I believe.)

You’d pay for stupid keys with a real money? me not.

I prefered the chests we had at launch. Sure I was guaranteed to have a useless tonic but I was also guaranteed to have 2 other items that I could use (boost, merchants, rez orbs).
What I hate to most about the chests now is the stupid bag of coins with 2-3 silver in it taking the slot of something that would be useful. Keep your silver, give me an extra boost or a merchant, I will make money elsewhere.

The five racial cities give 3 yellow trans stones each, that’s all. I think Lion’s Arch is the same.

I get black lion keys very, very frequently for WvW map completions.

This is why i do not open chests. Just because 95% of content is just trash during events with special skins. Rest of the time – 99.9% (nothing is worth money spent (if converted from gold)).

The black lion tools are considerably better than you think. I just opened 177 Orrian jewelry boxes and then drank the liquid karma and cycled ‘til I was done and received 19 lodestones, so if you can’t find a use for karma boosters, I’m not convinced you’re trying all that hard. The black lion permanent contracts are major conveniences. Guild discoveries are great for small guilds or creating a guild-of-one for another 150 bank slots. Unidentified dye sells well assuming you don’t like collecting them.

And your statement that “the karka event showed 300% MF makes no difference”… I think we’re actually playing entirely different games…

The black lion tools are considerably better than you think. – i have 11 stacks (no real difference with most expensives for game money, so i always forget to use them) yes you can get +5%-10% more ecto. Useful if you have them for free. But i tried to salvage hundreds of yellows. It is better to use “ingame money” kits if you plan to salvage many items for profit (better to convert gems to gold and buy ingame kits).

The black lion permanent contracts are major conveniences – i have many 1-time-use, but used them 1-2 times. Most useful permanent thing is – mystic forge conduit – i use it pretty often.

Guild discoveries are great for small guilds or creating a guild-of-one for another 150 bank slots. – just buy character slot, problem solved. Anyway you can buy influence for money (Large Guild Discovery – 300 points == 60 silver).

Unidentified dye sells well assuming you don’t like collecting them – convert your gems to gold and buy them directly (if you want them of course).

And your statement that “the karka event showed 300% MF makes no difference”… I think we’re actually playing entirely different games… – looks like it. I dropped better items without that +200% buff and +MF items.

They need to add the permanent hair stylist contract back. I cant find anymore in the trading post, and the chests don’t seem to drop them anymore.
