Maybe this has been asked before… (if so, I couldn’t quite find it) but… what’s the rationale behind the Black Lion gathering tools? (sickle, axe, pick).

They are not “Extremely efficient at gathering resources and uncovering rare components” (the wiki itself says they have the same efficiency as a regular orichalcum harvesting tool (with of course just a tiny fraction of the uses)

I wouldn’t take the “it doesn’t have a level requirement” point to justify the fact that they have such a low number of uses and yet they are Black Lion chest drops with “rare” rarity… (and keep in mind the unlimited use, orichalcum-quality harvesting tools are just masterwork)

Seems to me they need to be upgraded

I’d be okay if they had higher drop rates (or even double drop rates) with such few uses. It would give me a point to using them instead of my unlimiteds, if even for a few more items.

I look at them as more of a cosmetic/convenience item. I like the animations and they keep me from heading off on an expedition without enough tools. I’m looking forward to the logging axe.

Sorry, my bad. I miss read. Translation: Saw gathering too in the title and assumed it was the other without reading through. I was just trying to give my perspective on what I thought was the topic. Sorry if I irritated you.

Nono, it’s just your response doesn’t pertain to the topic, so I wanted to see if you had any response that was actually relevant by notifying you of your incorrect assumption.

Testing the effectiveness of these seems tedious. First you have to establish the base rate for the white tools then do it again with the others to see if there is an actual change from the fine/masterwork/rare tools. You would also have to do it while guesting to avoid WvW bonus influencing the result.

I thought they had a higher chance of getting extra things? (such as gems from ore)
so instead of 10% chance, probably 20%.

They don’t have any higher chances than a regular Orichalcum tool… people have tried putting them to the test in the past.

Being a “rare” Black Lion chest item and all, it should be quite good… they are the harvesting item with the highest rarity type in the game and as they are they are less than masterwork and even less than a white
