Black Lion Key to Chest Ratio makes no sense
the reason that less keys drop then chests because if that were not the the case, then there would be no reason to buy keys whatsoever.

Like I said, if there was something valuable in the chests that would make sense, but there’s not, therefore, there is no reason to buy keys.
1 key right now costs about 1g 18s (125 gems). For what? So I can run around looking like a Moa for 30 minutes? Or for a crafting booster that is useless since I’ve maxed out of crafting? No, for what’s in the chests, the key to chest ratio is just too low and the cost of the keys is to high. If they wanted me to actually buy gems so I would buy keys to open chests, they should put something in the chest that has real value to players, like Rare or Exotic items. Doing it this way makes me NOT want to buy gems, EVER.
well they have the halloween skins in them, but no one wants to buy keys when there is a high chance the chest will not have even a crappy halloween skin in them. Its like those blind box collectable miniatures – who would buy those if the most common thing was for the box to contain nothing at all?
@OP:
As your response notes, you’re ultimately asking the wrong question.
The question isn’t why the ratio is where it is (obviously to encourage people to buy keys with real $$), the real question is why the loot in the chests is largely crap if they’re trying to incentivize paying $2/pop for whatever might be in there.
To Voyager: That is a good idea. I think they do need to tweek the drop rate for some of the rarer items in the chests. I do not think they should be to easy to get though. I look at it being alot loke the zaishen chest from GW1. The drops from the chest were mainly garp but every few keys you could get items that give you points towards certain achievements (sweets, drunkard, and party). Plus every time you used a key it went towards your zaishen title and that you would be able to show off with a flashy emote. If they were to add something like this towards the BL chests they could increase the desire to open them as well without changing anything game breaking in the loot tables.
To the OP: It would be nice if they also increased the drop rate for keys from mobs. It is obvious that they intended the keys to be recieved mainly through the item shop but increasing the drop rate to where you can get a key maybe once a week would not hurt sells in the shop. So far outside of the shop I have gotten 2 or 3 from rewards from clears and 1 from drops since release.

There is nothing in the chests worth paying money for though. If there was then your statement would be a bit more viable. As it stands now the chests are just inviting you to say “open me” but when you do all you find is coal.
For those of us in the UK, the price for keys if we buy them works out at nearly £1 per key, which is ridiculous. The stuff in the chests just isn’t worth anything like that. So the chests sit in the bank waiting for keys to drop.
