Black Lion Weapons - Acquire time
From what I’ve heard, you need to open an average of 50 Black Lion Chests to get 1 full Ticket via Scraps. You could be lucky and get more full tickets from the chests, but do NOT count on this happening. Personally I’ve managed to accumulate 1 full ticket so far just by using keys that dropped for me; I haven’t been keeping track, but it’s definitely within the vicinity of 12 – 15 Black Lion Chests.
If you prefer not to take the risk, then I heartily recommend saving up gold and just buying the skin you want from the TP.
I have 3 Tickets and some scraps, so far, after collecting them about 2-3 months. I open about 2-3 chests a week, very occasionally a few more.
i have farmed 100 BLKeys before the april 15th patch and i opened them on the 16th.
And i got 3 tickets +38 scraps, so almost 7 tickets out of 100 chests.
Might be above average luck, but that is my experience.
ALWAYS FARM KEYS, DON’T BUY THEM!
Yea, I myself prefer to farm the keys instead of buying them. ~15 gold is a bit of an overkill for me, not to mention the Dreamthistle skin on TP which costed nearly 250 gold last time I checked it.
Anyway, thanks everyone, I guess I can just keep farming them up and hope for the best.
Cheers
From keys I got as drops, from map completion, and personal story (for my regular chars, no dedicated key farming), I’ve gotten 1.7 tickets. Quite a lot considering drop rate and complete lack of trying, but still very far from the 5 tickets needed for a single old skin.
For me – it averages about 2 full tickets (converted from scraps) per 25 chests opened. This isn’t a lot, but also remember that you should be buying the skins you like when they are introduced for 1 ticket each.
I estimate that in order to recoup your cost to obtain the tickets, via back conversion through gems, you’d need to sell skins for at least 50 gold per ticket cost.

Hmm, the ones I like currently cost 5 tickets – is there some kind of a rotation with every weapon so that they all go down to 1 ticket?
Normally when they first come out they are only 1 ticket until their LS expires.

I don’t buy keys, but I’ve done key runs on a casual basis now and then, when I have an hour with nothing to do (I don’t speedrun, it takes at least 30 min for me to do a key run). I don’t keep track, but I would estimate I get a scrap every 4-6 keys and an actual ticket (not 10 scraps) every 20-30 keys.
I don’t buy the skins that are 2 or more keys, I save the tickets for when new skins are released and buy them for 1 ticket each. If you want a skin that is already beyond the intro period, your best bet is to save up for 2-3 tickets and when new skins come out, buy skins and sell them on the TP. You’ll get less for them during the first week than you will by waiting six months for the prices to go up, but if you sell 2-3 skins you should be able to collect enough gold to buy the older skin you want from the TP.
Trying to collect five tickets or so will probably take weeks or months of intense effort and it’s a good way to burn yourself out on the whole idea.
I see, thank you everyone. I guess I should go back to farming other weapons and armour until a new skin is released. Cheers!

That’s what I would do… who knows, maybe you’ll like the next skins even more.
Been playing about five months, only been using keys that I find (think I’ve found two from drops), awarded from map completion, and from personal story, so I’ve opened maybe twenty chests at most. I found one complete ticket and six ticket scraps so far.
I don’t even look at BL keys or BL weapon skins because of how stupidly low those chances are. Gambling two to six times the price of a full set of armor skins for a single weapon skin? I can literally get a whole other game, complete with all its art and models and whatnot, for that kind of price.
It’s cheaper to buy gems and trade for gold than to buy BL keys and open chests.
Assuming a 2.5% drop rate on tickets and a 25% drop rate on scraps you need to open on average 100 chests for 5 tickets, which costs $105. You can buy about 350 gold for 4,800 gems which costs $60 and you’ll have enough gold for almost any of the dreamthistle skins with gold left over.
This site has some reported drop rates. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest/Drop_rate
If correct, the % drop rate of scraps is 21.3% (1 out of every 4.7 chests). The % drop rate of intact tickets is 0.8% (one out of 125 chests).
If you disregard the intact tickets, that means on average someone will have to open 47 chests to get 10 scraps.
May be a stupid question but what do you mean by farm keys? Is there a mob you are killing for drops? Or farming gold to purchase them with the conversion?
Always up wind from my prey. I want them to smell my farts!

Using a spare character slot you can make and remake a character (warrior human generally) and in 30 minutes get to the lvl 10 personal story reward for the key. People do this over and over.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
It doesn’t take me much time, since I would never, ever use BL keys to try to obtain a weapon skin.
Instead, I let other people gamble and buy the skins from the TP. In the long (and short) run, it’s much cheaper and more satisfying.
Think of BL Keys as akin to buying a lottery ticket. Expect to get nothing, but the excitement of opening the BL Chest. Often, you’ll get a booster or tonic of minor benefit to you. Less often, you’ll get something of value (e.g. BL Salvage Kit). Rarely, you’ll get a nice bonus (e.g. 1-use Total Makeover). And other people will still be the ones getting lucky by getting multiple tickets or scraps.
Any other expectation from BL Keys is bound to end in disappointment for all but a tiny fraction of players.

Choose commoner also (warrior, human, commoner) and at the choice to save the hospital or the orphanage, chose hospital.
I think 5 is definitely too high for each skin, if it stays random like it is now I think 2 or 3 for old is much less punishing. You aren’t just investing in an old skin, really, you’re also removing 5 tickets you could use for new ones. So i feel like the old skins get really underused for it
