I wonder if there’s anyone who can explain this to me. I’m willing to buy the permanent gathering tools, but it says that it’s as good as a orichalcum gathering tool.
What if A-net decides to add a higher tier of nodes or trees that requires something better then orichalcum.
Does this mean A-net will upgrade the Black Lion gathering tools? Or do we have to use other gathering tools making the permanent ones quite useless?

First, the unlimited use tools will never be “useless”, even if new materials are released that they cannot harvest simply because they would remove the need for you to obtain lower level tools (it is a bad idea to use the top end tools on low end nodes because the cost per use wipes out the worth of the harvested item).

Second, the descriptions are:
Molten Alliance Mining Pick – Used to mine all metals. Unlimited use.
Chop-It-All Logging Axe – Perfect for use on all types of tree. Unlimited use.
Consortium Harvesting Sickle – Used to harvest all plants. Unlimited use.

These descriptions do not suggest that the tools will remain at Oricalcum tier, should a new tier be added.

If they make the T6 Black Lion Tools useless with the introduction of T7 nodes for ascended crafting, and then sell T7 Black Lion Tools in the Gem Store with the next patch, telling everyone who bought the tools during the current sale that “hey, that’s why there was a sale!”.

Dem tears dem fits dat rage.

I have a full set of permanent Pick, Sickle, and Axe on each of 7 characters (yes, $210).

If they add a tier of mats those items don’t harvest, I’ll be annoyed. Ultimately I don’t see them wanting to annoy a customer like me, when they consider how much more I might spend in the future.

I think they should be only account bound……… paying $30 for a set of gathering tools for one toon seems ridiculous enough..

I would get them all if they were account bound but i doubt ANet would do that ..
