Bolt of damask to drop in price?
Assuming nothing changes, bolt of damask will drop in price due to people finishing up on ascended crafting.
But..
Linen supply is being kept up right now do to some questionable farm spots in the game, so if these spots become nerfed, there is no telling if demand will outstrip supply.
Furthermore, the comment of “looking into” should not be read too indepth. They said the same thing about precursors over a year ago.
so does that mean leather sections would be effected?
isnt leather one of the top supplied items?

Leather is harder to deal with.
I should first mention that any changes in linen would have to be on the supply side. They cannot reduce the # required for bolt of damask since the community would feel robbed, especially among early adopters. If anything they could increase the drop rate or salvage rate from bags, or even introduce demotion recipes (which I would do).
The only change that can be made with leather is on the demand side. Anet needs to provide more incentive to use leather in other recipes in order for the Elonian Square to rise in price.
thank god for that, its always good to get reassurance on speculation i figure such a high supplied low demand item could only get more expensive in the future, far in the future but increase none the less

“We do recognize that cloth prices are a bit high this is a factor of how hard it is to focus farm for leather and cloth. This is something we are looking into.”
If wool, cotton, silk and linen are made more abundant, will damask drop in price? Possibly.
you have a source for this? cause i dont saw anything bout this

I used these search terms in Google with good results:

They need to hurry up and do something about silk. John Smith’s here maybe he can update us.

Silk isn’t too much of a problem. Linen should get priority.
3 months ago I bought/made thousands of bolts of silk at around 13c each. I’m really lucky I did that as they are now 8.22s. I’m not sure how that price change isn’t a problem. Very few people can make 100 bolts (300 scraps) per day, which costs 8.22g on the tp. The total supply is drying up completely and people are nowhere near finished building their armor sets. Personally I have 1 set and still want 3 more sets to cover a couple alts. They whole process is getting out of reach for most of the base and is not near to a cooling off of prices.
Bottom line, damask is not going down in crafting price, and will probably slowly march upwards for some time as people run out of their pre-release storages

Depends on if ANet is satisfied with their “value”. They’ve had time to analyze the supply/demand, and could very well “fix” it in the next release, or… never do anything about it.
If they do try to “fix” it, then they have to be careful with long-term consequences. After half a year, for example, prices could stabilize on their own to an acceptable amount. Any early intervention, in that case, would just be counter-productive to their long-term balancing goals.
Linen isn’t a problem, really. It’s 40 scraps per damask, which is farmable.
Silk is the problem. 100 bolts of silk a day? 300 scraps of silk a day? That’s not farmable, and the recipe is sucking up all the silk in the game at an astonishing rate. The player base can’t replace silk fast enough. The price of silk is way out of balance.
The recipe requirement of 100 silk bolts was a HUGE error in judgement and needs to get fixed, ASAP. Frankly I am shocked by the poor judgement that was shown here, and it hurts my confidence in the game economy over all.
The thing is, the Damask recipe needs to suck all the silk out of the game; it’s the only recipe that makes use of it with any significant volume. The cost is pretty onerous now, but we’re also in the midst of its initial demand spike. In a few months, once it has passed, silk is still going to be produced in enormous quantities – and Damask will likely still be the primary sink.
Maybe legendary armor can fix some of the silk sinks. It will require a precursor right?

No. Silk is not the problem. The Devs didn’t put the large requirement of silkscrap in the recipe so they could fix it’s prices for now. They want silk to be at a price expected from a T5 crafting material in 6months and onwards.
Right now the demand is incredibly high because the number of people who still dont have their ascended armor. It should be rather clear that the demand for silkscrap will eventualy even out and so will it’s price.
So, let’s say the devs ajust the silkscrap requirement and bring it down to an acceptable level, like 1s or something. Within the following months, most of the people who want aA will have it. Result: Silkscrap back at vendorprice+1c. I don’t think fixing a problem in a way that makes you fix it again later is an acceptable solution.
And as for linen scrap: it never had 8 million supply on the TP sitting at vendorprice+1c.
As someone who prefers to get his material from game play needing 300 silk is more of a problem than 40 linen. Running TA and CM occasionally is enough for me to more than keep ahead of the pace with silk.
I know why they went that way, it’s because they looked at leather and saw that the glut was still there with 150 per t7. It’s still annoying though.
I doubt bolt of damask will drop, for example I wanted to buy yesterday 1 Deldrimor steel ingot, they are around 4g to buy and 3.20-3.30g for placing orders. Placed my orders and in few seconds was 3 other buy orders, one order with 1 coper above me, one with one silver and one with 3.50g. I rectact my buy orders in seconds the 3 orders above me disapeared too. I put back my orders they pop up again.
If any of you ever placed a order for precursor know this move verry well and everyone knows they want to force you the “right price”, the price what flipers set, coz they know you are too poor to shift the market in your favor.
Tbh I dont even belive ppl still buy this ingots not to mention will be a bot set or a no lifer who do this things. So imagine about bolt of damask… no way this crap will decrease in price the next 6-9 months. At least with Deldrimor Steel Ingot you can mine everything for free from the ground, but with scraps you cant mine them for free, they need to drop… RNGesus may bless you with his mercy ^^

Why does every discussion about the price of a commodity boil down to the TP flippers causing the problem? And before you whack at me, I only dabble in the TP game, I have enough gold to have what I want for my toons but I cannot hold a candle to traders who don’t actually play the game but play the market full time. I like to farm, I like to roam, WvW or PvE and the rare dungeon.
Real quick, because I don’t want to derail here but look at the US economy. Of the annual GDP (gross domestic product), 2/3 of it is consumer spending. The other 1/3 is everything else (manufacturing, energy, government, money earned from the stock market, etc) so the absolute lion’s share is the every day Joe or Josephine buying goods.
I think we can postulate, since no numbers are truly given here about how many traders just work the market, that the ratio in BLTP is even more skewed towards the consumer than in the US economy so, just to pick a number, let’s say that 95% of the transactions on the TP are by the average user (this is a swag, the number of consumers is probably higher, closer to 98 or 99%, IMO). This means that 5% of the economy is messing up the prices for everyone else? No way. Impossible.
If you want an in-demand item, you will pay more, no matter what and the people that drive that, 95 times out of 100, are people just like you who are willing to pay 20 silver more or one copper more, no difference. Damask, currently, is one of those products. If you want to place orders on a high demand item, someone will outbid you unless you really overshoot them, every time. You have 2 choices, bid higher or wait longer….don’t blame traders.
Demand will fall in a few months, which will cause the price of the mats, particularly silk and linen to fall in price which will lead to a lower crafting cost which will lead to a lower price.
Right now demand is pretty steady so the price will remain the same for a while longer. Most people only make one set of armor though and once they are done with that set they will sell their Damask (at least some of them). As more sellers enter the market it means there is also less demand. More sellers + Less demand = lower prices.
My prediction is it settles at around 8g in 3 months time.

That depends on future content. For example, if the legendary trinket is a back-item that requires 250x Damask (exaggeration, of course), do you think demand will go down?

I just would like to see a great big pile of the ingredients necessary for that much Damask….then I would like to transfer them into my bank…if there was room.

If you compare that to deldrimmor ingots and spiritwood planks I don’t see how thats a reasonable price level, especially given the amounts needed.
