Bring back variable Gold:Gem exchanges
They have taken away the option to pick your own amount of gems.
If you want the 500 gem grave finisher, go ahead and buy 800 gems because that’s the only way to do it without paying cash.

Horrible, horrible change.
-Fixed exchange amounts have been set to simplify the exchange process and remove confusing rounding points.
How dumb do you think your players are, Anet?
This is just insulting…
This is a horrible decision. I want to buy custom amount of gems! Revert!

Clearer exchange rates are all fine and good, but I want to buy the exact amount of gems I need, not the predetermined amounts given. I do not like this change at all.
I am really shocked by the incredible stupidity and short sightedness of this change….seriously what the hell? All you had to do was make it easier for us to buy the EXACT AMOUNT we wanted instead of having to guess, not make the amounts fixed, who the hell thought this was a good idea?
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Had been debating about whether or not to spend cash on the Outfit when it came out. Instead ANET found the point I am unwilling to support their game anymore by breaking the ability to choose.
stupid change. what are you thinking Anet? already hating the patch
Well no more gems for me. Not from gold or real money. If you wish to squeeze money out of me I’m not giving anything. Didn’t expect that. What a cheap shot…
+1.
I do 99.9% of my gemstore transactions with real money (go ahead John, check how much money I spent there. Must be scary.)
But 2 or 3 times since launch, I bought a very small amount with gold so I coud complete the amount I needed without buying more (when I miss 200 I just buy 800 and keep 600 for next time but 2-3 times I only missed 25-90). What happened ? Didn’t want to pay 10€ for those few gems I was missing when I had alreayd payed most of the price with real money => got them with ig money (which is still gems bought with real money by someone else) and still BOUGHT those items. And next time I had 0 gems so I BOUGHT a full 800-4000 gems set again.
What would have happend with current system ? Oh I need that items that costs 750, I have 730 left. Not gonna pay 10€ right now. Not gonna pay 70 gold for 400 gems because I don’t want to spend gold for gemstore items, even if those 380 other gems would stay on my account until next time like when I buy 800 gems with real money and use 200. So I most probably DON’T buy the item. Next time ? Chances are the price will be the same, so it’s another sell chance that goes away for Anet. Next-next time ? Eventually something cheaper or much more expensive will come so this time I’ll use my gems and/or buy more so next-next-next time I’ll buy again.
What I mean is that with the new system, and even for someone who’s into spending real money on that game like me, I’ll sometimes refrain from buying things.
===> The new clear and already-rounded options are nice, but give us back an option to choose the amounts !!! (it didn’t need that overhaul : just reversing the way we do transactions = let players tell the game how many coins/gems they want and let it display the price gems/coin, instead of having players trying a lot of prices until they get what they want).
BTW : more options for real money would be nice too !!! Remove all 800-8000 gems options, put a single 100 gems option with a number of items in the “shopping cart” ranging from 1 to 80. Won’t change anything for me since I buy a lot of stuff and usually just buy the next higher amount to what I need (because I know that I’ll use other gems later), but there are a lot of people who sometimes refrain from buying something just because they can’t get the number of gems they need.
Unable to track market fluctuations, unable to purchase the amount I want when I want in gems. This is designed to do nothing but make more money for the company.
I understand the need (I think), but this change needs to be rolled back.
Super bad decision in so many ways. You can’t get ‘just the amount of gems’ you need. The statistics graph removed, (cmon that was amazing both for buyers and other ppl, they used it, deal with it Anet, now they won’t use it and probably wont buy gems). I’m not sure if I will ever buy more gems again this way, if this doesn’t get fixed.
It’s also very easy to accidently click twice in same zone of the page (cause it’s new and confusing), that you buy something accidently. I almost bought 800 gems accidently, luckely i didnt have enough gold. I was trying to click the old page back, boom, almost an epic misclick.
Why why why. John Smith censoring the exchange rate is not gonna help guild wars 2 in long run. It has worked for two years, it will still work in future.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Oh God why…
At least just give us the option to buy in increments of 100.
Submit a support ticket for each exchange to get a partial refund on your exchange process or an additional exchange for a specific amount. For example, I’m now stuck with 903 gems. Since I don’t expect there to be any item soon that costs 1 or 3 gems only, I’ll have to contact support to have those 3 gems converted into gold as well.
What? Why? Arenanet, explanation please?
This is the most brainfarting change I’ve seen in a long time (since the NPE changes)!
I just want to get 100 gems, not 400! Why the friggin hell does ANet feel the need to destroy working systems?
I’m stuck with 482 gems. I wanted to buy 218 more to get the outfit but I can’t because of this stupid change.

Problems:
- You cannot track market fluctuations in gem prices.
- You cannot select the amount of gems or gold you want, you only get these horribly placed fixed increments.
Revert. Please.
Who could have possibly thought this was a good idea? Seriously, how does this get through? No, really. I want an answer to that.
Northern Shiverpeaks ~ [dO] Drop Otter
Yeah, not a fan of the change. I always support the game with direct gem purchases but occasionally when I’ve needed 50 gems or 100 gems to get the amount needed for an item because I was a little short I’d convert gold to gems. I’ve only ever needed to do this a couple times, but I liked that I didn’t have to do a large conversion to get the little amount I needed. That was one thing that stood out to me about how customer friendly Anet was considering almost all other games made you get preset blocks of gem store currency.
This is outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous
Like seriously? How could you do that Anet. What is wrong, are we turning into a “pay a lot or don’t get anything” game? I gotta admit, the interface is cool. The old currency exchange page was a mess. But why change the way it works, not only the way it’s presented?
And to those who say to get over it, take out your white knight armor and see the reality in face : The new system is bad and they need to change it. There is NO advantage in having a set amount of gems or gold you can exchange. NONE.
Fort Aspenwood
The boldness of claiming this was about simplification is a hit in the face of the players! As if anybody could overlook the lost possibility of filling their change. This is entirely hand in hand with new items for 700 or 200 gems, and the sweets for 25, guess why the prices are so uneven.
Like it had ever been to complicated to just type the amount of gold… (besides, if someone was not bright enough to do so, maybe he should not be trusted with the whole idea of numbers or currency).
If the game is no longer profitable, maybe think about worthy reasons to spend my money, like add-ons, just something that does not show one big stinky Middlefinger to all Your players, Anet.
I bet they make the changes so you have to buy more than you need you 800 when you need 700, for example. So in the future you will be buying more gems to use yours unspent ones.
Anet profit 1 x players 0
Clever. Evil, but clever.
Please add another account holder who is not pleased with this change. The ability to buy just a few gems at a time to either make a nice round number, or when you have 100gems already and only need 25 more to buy that Black Lion Key..
Why do I feel like someone wants to squeeze money off me?
Totally unacceptable change not in the change itself, but in the direction it manifests.
And what should I do with a leftover of 8 gems?.
The graph was uninformative, but at least it worked a little. But this is the least of the problems here.
Idiotic change. I realize that in all likelihood this was done in an attempt to get more people to buy gems outright, but it’s backfiring horribly for me. I buy gems fairly often since I like to support the game, but until this underhanded trash is reverted, I’ll be using ingame gold exclusively.
It’s moves like this which made me stop buying gems with real money.
Go figure.
really bad decision. I want to buy custom amount of gems and gold
Adding my voice into this discussion.
Not only Anet decided to follow the path like Bioware did with their points, which you pay with real money but you ALWAYS have left points which you can’t buy anything! Just a waste of money for buyers, since they always need to buy more points until they spend a large sum, enough to have left over points to buy something. It is clear the path anet is choosing here, specially with the gems price being so high now.
Not only you are tied to buy a certain amount of gems as well pay absurdly amount of gold for it.
Come on, give us options. If want to introduce such system, give the option to buy 50, 100 and 200 gems at least. There are items which cost 35 gems. Now we have to buy 400 gems to spend only 35?? And while at it, the price is way too high….

I’d like to see this changed rolled back too, or at least have the ability to buy smaller amounts, 400 is simply too much. I buy gems both with real money and gold and after the current changes I won’t be doing either anymore.
I’m honestly amazed.
I won’t say the previous system was fantastic, but to strip out the ability to pick the exact amount of gems you wanted, the single best quality that system had going for it, is complete and total failure. How anyone could possibly consider the current system as an update when the single most important piece of what we used to have is missing will remain entirely beyond my comprehension.
This is a nothing short of a complete reduction in the functionality of the gold -> gem -> gold currency exchange and is extremely dissapointing.
ANET just wants your money, they could care less about what you think about this method, and its utter BS. Money hungry that’s all.
+1
My friends and I all had been tracking gem prices with our own static exchange rate for years. There is a chart on my desktop (first value is launch day) that can no longer be added to because of this highly disagreeable change.
I liked seeing the fluctuations, I liked buying gems in small, random amounts. Undo please.
I don’t mind an interface change to make things more comprehensible to newer players, but the ability to chose custom amounts of gold & gems to exchange needs to be returned to us immediately.
Also: the fact that gold can be purchased 1G at a time but Gems in minimum increments of 400 is ^%!#$%

Well, NCSoft probably had a bigger hand in this. Still, it’s very disappointing that breaking something is called a “fix” or “update”.
It’s never a good thing to take choice and options away.
Revert, please.
REVERT —-—- or do set increments of 50 or 100 gems…. 400 Gem increments is kittened considering the most popular things are 500 gems or 700 gems
Wise up man, stop screwing with your gamers. You guys always make a great game and do stuff people love, then you just literally try to make people hate your game over the next few years after people have already bought it. You don’t have to fix something that isn’t broken, if was fine before!
Everyone with half a brain can see that you’re only trying to make the conversion using in game gold more problematic as a ploy to get people to use their credit cards. We’re not stupid.
Lol’d.
They’ve shown their true colors.
Jagex v2, ’nuff said.
It feels like I’ve been punished for buying gems with gold. I now have a weird amount of gems, and like someone has already said, I would’ve been able to buy the exact amount I needed to make it up to a round number.
Maybe it’s a way to “entice” people to buy gems with real money and repeat purchase (you can’t just buy one costume now without having gems left over).
Of course you can get them converted back to gold, but that exchange rate is awful.
And once again we’ll have to rely on some page on the internet to see market data.
I understand that making games is a business, but it seems like most updates these days reduce the quality of life in-game as some kind of compromise for them to earn more money.
Just another update that could’ve been great… but has been soured.

Yes, NCSoft may be driving this kitten. No matter how whack the patches, I don’t think that Anet would deliberately break their game in such a spectacular fashion.
Patch Fail.
Revert please.
I feel really bad, I just got a friend to buy into this game. I feel I should reimburse him for wasting his money on Guild Wars.

Wow, I don’t understand this change at all- it’s horrible.
On another note: 70 gold for 400 gems? REALLY?!
Good to know 70 gold isn’t worth anything hardly.
What if I only want 150? NO I HAVE TO BUY 400. THANKS ANET FOR SHOWING YOUR TRUE COLORS.
(edited by Chasind.3128)
As someone who buys gems with both gold and cash, I find this to be a very player unfriendly move.
Reduced transparency and options makes me less likely to use the gem store. Why impose these limits? If I want to buy 17 gems to round up to a purchase, or sell 171 gems for gold, I can’t really see how that is hurting your bottom line.
Please also bring back the graph. You already lose so much when changing gold to gems and vice versa, it helps to decide when is the best time to make the exchange to minimize the loss.
Changes like this one make me want to play the game less and less. If Anet wants to keep making dumb decisions like this one. I might as well spend my time and money on a game with more sensible devs.
Maybe this was not done for new players. Maybe this was done because folks with leftover gems are inclined to buy more.
First how is this making more money for ANet since we are talking about exchanging game currency for Gems.
Second the minimum purchase size for gems in gold is half what it is with cash.
That said it’s still stupid. Yes some players requested a means to buy an exact amount of gems without playing guessing games but it’s easy enough to do the calculation based on what they wanted to buy, not limited tiers. And we can’t even sell the exact amount of gems we have.
You want to offer tiers, fine but give us an “advance trade” button to get to the old interface or one where we can specify the amount of gems we want to buy or sell as well.
RIP City of Heroes
Right now I have 30 gold in game, and some left over gems. What if I need a few more to buy something off BLTC?
Old system — I spend some of my 30 gold, buy a handful of gems, and make my purchase.
New system — I can’t afford the minimum in gold, so it’s real money or nothing. So I spend real money, and make my purchase. And now I’m left with even more gems than I started with. The cycle continues.
This is an old racket. This is why you already couldn’t pay less than $10 for less than 800 gems. Folks with leftover gems tend to keep purchasing, and the new system means you keep having leftover gems.

To all of you saying it’s some NCSoft ploy, it’s not. NEXON is in charge of the gem store. They’re the cash shop kings.

Please, not this again.

As a customer, why do I care if it is NCSoft or NEXON?
