according to the email from Arenanet 01.12.13:
I want to ask, if people get the “presents” from buying gems in december too, if they bought it in the last months. I bought gems 3 days ago and im a little bit confused, because all other “presents”, like the minis from dragon bash and the kites from the basar are given to the people, who bought gems some time ago and for their allegiance and support to arenanet and not for a bonus to get more people to the gemshop.

I think the difference here is that the items rewarded before were also available in the gem store so it was no big loss if someone didn’t get it, if they wanted it they could get it, getting it for free was just a nice bonus.

Whereas this time both the rewards are not currently available anywhere else, so players need to be told in advance or they might miss out completely.

I could see them being added into Black Lion chests as account bound drops after the giveaway.

What email is this? Jan 12, 2013, or Dec 1, 2013? I certainly got no email from ANet today and I’ve bought plenty of gems every month since before launch.

Same here that why I made a separate topic about it. Keep a close eye on it mate.

Any chance of posting a screenshot of it? Or saying what’s in it beyond elliptical references that assume your reader has a copy?

I mean, I know I’ll be buying gems come the Dec 10 patch for the Wintersday stuff. But should I buy them sooner to make sure?

*note I am not frothing to make sure I get my goodies. I am just intensely curious based on this cryptic thread and would like the details. Feel free to PM me if you think there’s some sort of NDA and non-gem-buyers shouldn’t be told, odd as that would be.

Maybe the target audience is those who don’t buy gems to give them that extra nudge to buy a few? The end of the fiscal year is coming up. Folks already buying gems will probably be drawn in by the sales.

I’ve bought gems in the past (but not recently) and got an e-mail saying I had been awarded a token amount of gems (not enough to buy anything cool without buying a few more) . Looks to me like they’re making a big marketing push to finish out the year on a high note.
