Buy orders match vendor price
It’s not any more, but it looks like old orders are still up there from when you could submit a bid for any price greater than 0.
Players need to just cancel the orders since it i impossible to fill the orders and as far as I know always has been impossible. And if they aren’t then arenanet needs to do something to cancel them all out. I’m sure all of the listings that will never complete for one reason or another is a waste of resources of some kind be it performance related or data clutter.
Yeah, this is annoying to say the least – someone wants it but I can’t really sell it to them.
Well, it will go quickly enough if you sell it for 2c anyway.
On the whole, I do agree, though; I don’t see that much reason to stop people from selling things at lower than the vendor price.
I love that we have people on the one hand saying to get rid of the hard minimum price limit, so the market can be more free, and in other threads there are folks whining that it’s possible to sell for vendor+1c, because they are unable to profit at that price.
If people are unhappy with the current situation from both directions, it’s probably about what it should be.
I think either of the two alternatives would be more sensible than the status quo, however; being “in between” does not mean it can’t be the worst of the three.
Ultimately, though, this is pretty much a non-issue.
My take on it is this: if you are going to get less than what the vender is going to give you for something someone else wants then why not just give it to them for free and let those who actually want to make coin off of those willing to pay for stuff actually make a profit over the vender price. That way everyone gets what they want instead of forcing one side to not get what they want based on the current design. After all if one is posting stuff because perhaps someone else would want it and doesn’t care about what one gets for it then obviously coin is of little or no interest to that person and there for giving the item away for free is the same as getting less than vender value for it.
Not minding the 15% loss isn’t even a little bit the same as not caring at all about what one gets for it. You’re suggesting people who are currently satisfied with 85% of vendor price should instead be willing to part with it for 0% of vendor price.
Do you not see how ridiculous that is?
Would be nice if ANet ran a script that cleared out all of the old “below vendor price” buy orders.
Would be even better if they cleared out all the orders for all the account bound food items! Lemons alone would make a huge boost to the game, tons and tons of gold sitting there.
ANYTHING that is account bound shouldnt even be an option to see on the broker. Spec all these foods, that have been karma/not karma/tradeable/not tradeable etc etc. More money sitting on that TP for items they will never be able to buy, then you can prob imagine.
I was just heading here to post the same thing. I am sick of seeing lemons and butter on the TP window when I open it up.
If they are going to set a floor on the vendor price, they should also set a floor on the asking price. When you put in a buy order for butter at 1c, it should flat out tell you no. I know that I’ve seen several things that I would be willing to sell on the TP, but when I check it against the vendor price, I see that I’d be losing money. I’m sure some of it because the buyer didn’t know the vendor price when placing the order, so let them know so they aren’t wasting their, or my, time. Or more importantly, wasting space on Anet’s servers.

It does tell you you can’t place an order at or below vendor price. They just haven’t (yet) removed old orders at those prices.
Ah, ok. Then that needs to be cleared out, pronto.
Hippocampus.8470 you appear to have misunderstood. I was merely pointing out that based on what I read and hear from those that are posting at vender +1c is because of the reason I stated. Thus I speculate than quite a bit of those listing that way are in the same crowd. However I never said everyone that is doing that is the same. The conclusive point is the same though. This is why I’ve suggested all over the place in these threads that raising the floor price to vender +15% +1c is the only fair thing to do to satisfy everyone. Right now the system favors those who don’t care if they get less than the vender gives them to sell something to someone else at the expense of everyone else who could get more but can’t because of the small fraction who doesn’t care.
Crafted jewelery is a perfect example of this problem because everyone wants or needs it. It is better than all the alternatives at least as far as I have seen up to level 40 where I’m at in content level. They all have a demand and many of the items supply exceeds demand. And because of that those who don’t care that they get less than the vender on all of that permanently has shut out those who do and could. Even if that amount is only 1c more than they would get from the vender. I would sell stuff people want to buy for that little amount more just to be one of those supplying things others want. But I don’t right now because the vender gives me a better deal. And this is obviously not the way it should be. Otherwise they would not have taken the time to make what is probably the best designed trading market to date in MMOs.
If supply exceeds demand, it drives prices down. That’s why those prices are all lower than you would like.
And if the minimum goes up, it definitely won’t satisfy everyone. People looking to buy those things obviously like low prices, and might even prefer if the minimum was abolished entirely, so prices drop to whatever level actually fits with supply and demand.

I understand supply and demand and I understand that they are at the floor price because supply exceeds demand. I never said it wasn’t because of that. And people buying those things for that price has nothing to do with the fact that they are at vender +1c. You said so yourself it’s because supply exceeds demand. So if the already super cheap vender value is increased by 15% it is still dirt cheap and anyone buying the stuff is still getting a super deal. Remember the venders in the game sell weapons and armor for way more compared to paying 15% more than vender value for anything else.
But in case that is not satisfactory, nothing is stopping people from being able to buy things cheaper than the TP minimum, they can always put up a buy order for lower, except for the limitations currently set. Right now the system prevents from selling anything for vender value or less in buy and sell orders. However if in addition to enforcing a minimum sell order of vender + 15% + 1c the filling a buy order restriction were removed; then you satisfy those who hate the fact that they are forced to use the vender to get a better deal on stuff people want to buy that are stuck at the floor price; and also those who according to you want to pay less than the vender for something. Because they could make a buy order for what they want to pay and anyone willing to take less than the vender can sell to them. So now we indeed make everyone happy.
That would only serve to give you the benefit of being able to make only 1c copper more for each item by selling it instead of vendoring it, after waiting in a potentially very long queue to do so. Is it really worth it to make this kind of change when it would only result in sellers making 1c more after taxes than they would have by vendoring the item?
This would come at the cost of duping the unwitting players silly enough to pay 15% more for items that they would normally have been able to buy for very nearly vendor price.
So, yes, people would be “happier” overall, but only because some proportion of players don’t know any better.
If you allow vendor-price or even sub-vendor buy orders, while preventing sell listings below vendor+15%+1c, then the people who don’t care about making a profit will just sell directly to those buy orders, and your junk sitting there at vendor+15%+1c will continue never to sell. Except now you paid an extra 0.75% listing fee to put it there.

I’ve been waiting. One day those things will likely be modified (maybe after an expansion or something). if those orders are still there someone is going to get a LOT of lemons.
A lot of money, too. The top buy orders, last I checked, were for multiple gold, likely put there by someone who thought it was funny (or someone who thought to hide their actual wealth by tying a bunch of it up in the TP). The joke will be on them if suddenly lemons stop being account bound, and the first person to take advantage of this gets tens or hundreds of gold for just a few handfuls of the things.

The wait may be worth it to some because some of us actually want to sell to other people vs selling to the vender. And may not care how long it takes to get the coin. As long as an item has a reasonable demand that wait won’t be too long. The longest so far I’ve waited for an item with demand to sell is 7 or 8 days. I play 2-3 times a week. If it were this way in the first place you wouldn’t be viewing it as duping anyone and if it were changed you still aren’t duping anyone. They are not the vender they are a player. They are still getting a better deal at vender +15% +1c than buying stuff from any other source. I mean look at crafting materials people are willing to spend like 10 times vender price on that stuff and they don’t feel like they are getting duped. No different with the change I described which by the way many support.
If you allow vendor-price or even sub-vendor buy orders, while preventing sell listings below vendor+15%1c, then the people who don’t care about making a profit will just sell directly to those buy orders, and your junk sitting there at vendor15%+1c will continue never to sell. But this isn’t how sales are happening now many people’s sell orders sell and many people’s buy orders are filled on everything on the TP. So as I said people who want to give people a deal at a loss vs the vender can and the rest of us will sell at vender +15% +1c for items perpetually stuck at the floor. The difference is the instant gratification over waiting for what you want. Both always exist so both kinds of orders will always be fulfilled.
