Buying gems with Euro
Live in Norway, myself. Noticed the same issue with Euros but didn’t know where to bring it up either. >.<
We should start a complaint list. I will hold my gempurchase til I get a good answer about this.
I believe it is lazy rounding to cover things like TAX ie VAT in the UK and other charges that apply to selling things abroad from the US.

Why would there be a charge for transferring virtual things over the net?
Still selling and buying with applicable laws and taxes in different countries. If i buy from US I pay import tax.

Because different countries have different laws when it comes to handling goods or currency?

Sounds very strange to me. I would like a higher-up to confirm that.
You might be able to confirm this yourself with some very basic research. For example, DLC for other video games that are made here and sold over seas have the same type of thing going on. If it’s 20 USD, it’s 20 Euro. Given the US tax system, i wouldn’t doubt if US companies are charged an export tax for virtual items, not to mention the wildly fluctuating exchange rates.

Yes I know the search function on the forums stinks, but this has been discussed many times before. I use Google with a site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum option.

In this thread, there is a clarification from ANet:

That UI is for US Tax, VAT is added into the price. We pay 20% on all transactions from Europe.
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

Yeah i figured that was the deal. You see it all the time over there and here as well when games are made overseas that don’t have publishers in the US.
Ok thanks for the links, I will read them through right away.
But I use paypal so it goes from my account to their account and there isn’t any shipment involved because the gems end up on my account on their servers
Gonna read what they have to say now :-)

It has nothing to do with shipment.

It is about the exchange taxes, but if they make a option to pay in USD and with paypal that shouldn’t be a problem would it?
It isn’t “real” money just virtual ones.

You can pay with paypal, and it is the same thing.
There will always be taxes on items, even if they are only in a game. That is simply how stuff works.

Maybe I should order gem cards from the US, free shipping and sell them here and make a big profit
