So I saw that a new item called the “Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic” is available in the Gem Store, and I have a couple of questions regarding it…

1. It operates like a basic salvage kit, and costs 3 copper per use. The basic salvage kit costs an average of 3.52 copper per use. The only other advantage besides this slight saving is that the item is permanent. Is it worth it?

2. Right now the item is on sale for around 640 Gems. How much longer will it be available in the Gem store (either at that price or at its original price)? I can’t seem to find that information anywhere.

It’s not a new item, it’s been in the gem store for months now with a normal price of 800 gems. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Copper-Fed_Salvage-o-Matic so it’s not expected to be removed. I doubt anyone knows when the sale will end.

As for; if it’s worth it. If you do a lot of salvaging and otherwise would have to buy numerous salvage kits instead of this one, then it’s definitely worth it. If you just do the occasional salvage then no.

As someone who wasn’t going to buy one myself…

A friend gifted me one, at the time I was salvaging thousands of things per day, lets just say, I was sick of constantly running to the merch to buy more basic kits.

Loved it. Paid back my friend even though they kept insisting I needn’t.

Just get 1, definitely worth it, and you can move it between characters. Way more useful than gathering tools.

It’s almost objectively not worth purchasing. You will need to use ~46k basic salvage kits before it saves money.

All that said, I still have it as it allows me to clear my inventory for extensive dungeons runs/eotm farming while allowing me to use the “extra room” for fluff like fun tonics and Krytan torch.

I got on, and as a heavy salvager i found it awesome! Granted the cost and the savings may not be worth it. However, the time convinience and inventory space makes up for it. I like having the 1 slot instead of the 10 I needed with the other kits. Even the mystic kits. I would get it while it’s on sale. If they ever come out with a better quality one, I’m definetly going to get it. It made my life so much easier.

That first time you get full bags and realize you don’t need to sweat it because you have an unlimited use salvage kit makes it worth the money.

Convenience item. Never need to run out of basic salvage kits ever again.

I agree its probably not worth it from a monetary standpoint, but I cant wait to get it for convenience sake. So if its on sale, I’m grabbing it.
I think its like the special harvesting items. I bought a harvesting pick for what works out to be 100 gold. It will be a LONG time if ever that I harvest enought stuff to be making a profit on it, but I dont care. I love having it. I love never having to worry about running out, or that I dont have the right level pick for the map I’m on. So I expect I’ll feel the same way about the salvage o matic. Now I guess I need to run a bunch of dungeons to get the $$ to get it before the sale ends!!

If it were a higher grade of kit, I probably would’ve gotten one by now. But as a basic salvage, no way.

it’s hella worth it for the convenience it provides and time it saves (and time = money). not worth it in terms of a way to save coin.
I’ve used mine roughly 300,000 times (getting luck). that’s 20,000 crude kits I didn’t have to purchase. Just the time to click ‘buy’ to get those is almost 2 hours, nevermind time to run to a merchant or double-click a new kit. my bags are almost never full.

If you’re still salvaging like crazy for luck like I am…. I would consider it VERY worthwhile for the convenience factor alone. If you’re just looking to salvage the occasional item than its not worth it probably.

Some of us can’t be bothered to swap our convenience items via the bank because that is too inconvenient…

Eh. I get it. I buy 2 or more of most things because I want a set permanently on my main and then ones for my alts to divvy up.

Incredible convenient imo. It safes a ton of space. This is for two reasons.

1) Only 1 (maybe two with mystic salvage kit) salvage kit necessary so only 1 (or 2) slots needed, rather then to buy 3-6 kits to have enough for a farm session or a day or so.

2) If your inventory is full you can make space by salvaging the items (especially light armor most of time is good to salvage and opens up more space in the bag. That space, saves time and loot.

Another point is, if you salvage more then 25 itesm in a row, (happened that i salvaged 100+ in a row) then the Kit is incredible convenient, cause you just double click it once, and then you can keep salvaging on an endless spree until you misclick (empty box/non salvageable item).

If you have the funds (80g or so, lesser now with discount), salvage-o-matic is worth it.

Yes I know lol.

It’s a bit tiring to have to go to the bank every time I play my Guardian though. It’s makes the convenience item…. Inconvenient.

And I switch Guardian <=> Mesmer a lot. Mesmer is my main, but I like to do Dungeons and farming on my Guardian.

Personal opinion if its worth it or not. Objectively its not worth it from a savings standpoint.
Its a convenience item.

I rarely have issues with inventory, anything below yellow rarity is salvaged with the copper fed, yellow items are salvaged with this mystic kit, exotics are salvaged with black lion kits…

Such a shame that my inventory doesn’t fills up with exotics
