Crafted Armor
I for one never understand this although popular viewpoint, just wrong imo.
When I make something and put it on the AH it costs me almost nothing I have all the mats except thread usually which is minor. So if I sell something I am just about 99% profit
You shouldn’t be able to buy all the mats to create something else then make a profit on that
In addition its all a mute point anyway because they are now going to make yellow and orange useless now anyway with the new ascended armor, that and an adjustment on how pre reqs for legendaries are made is going to destroy the yellow and orange market
Not that they didnt destroy the market anyway with their war on bots
I think some people made that armor thinking they could profit but because the mystic forge spits out so many exotics they relist it at a loss. That’s the only explanation I can think of because some of these exotics are priced nearly 1g below mat cost.
Like NoOneShotU mentioned, this is because the mystic forge spits out crafted exotics (I personally think that is stupid though).
Also, my guess would be that lots of people crafted a bunch of exotic gear when it was profitable and found that no one was buying – so now there’s a lot of excess supply and people are just cutting their losses and trying to get rid of them.
You may have all the mats mangarrage but there’s no reason for you to even make the armor because you could just straight up sell the mats and sometimes make more money. And it should make sense to be able to buy mats>make something>make money. That’s how business works, and not everyone would do it because they wouldn’t put the time in to calculate such things or just too lazy to do it anyways
well let try to explain it another way.
That is how real life business works not this game. Sure a company like Boeing can buy all these fabricated pieces of metal from a bunch of companies and slap together a 747 and sell it for more. But is there a potential of over a million companies that can make planes?
Of all the people that play this game everyone can be everything, master everything the potential is there could be over 1 million 400 tailors. Therefore the demand for a tailored item is low, however the demand for the individual items ie gossamer, insert t6 mat here, and globs is alot higher due to many many people creating items regardless if they are just doing it for themselves or a few guild people etc
So in this game the cost of materials is actually above and should be way above the actual selling price for any crafted item

It is because of people like you the crafting market is usually a big loss of money.
Just because you have the mats doesnt mean they dont have any value.
In 99% of the cases you would have made more money by selling the mats instead of crafting an item. Especially when the price you sell the item for is below the total value of the mats used to craft it.
Agreed with Black Wolf, also this is for all items not just Crafted Armor. Crafted is the only thing I’ve found I can occassionally make 15-25 silver off of if it’s on a high trend. Weapons are the worst from what I’ve seen.
In response to mangarrage, alot of people would be making money if they would quit selling stuff so low. That’s the problem is people don’t realise they’re losing money which is what I wanted to bring attention to. If it was always like this and people started realising it, crafters would make money and people who don’t feel like crafting and sell the mats they get would make money still and be able to buy equipment they want
Once you have the mats you have 2 choices:
Sell them for x gold
Craft them into something and sell for y gold
If x is greater than y, sell the mats. If y is greater than x, craft & sell.
In real life, the work & expertise always make y greater, and it should be this way in the game, except that people make this stuff for crafting experience (until 400), which floods the market with stuff people just want something better than vendor price for.
I can only make money by making yellow armors that have the good and sexy female skins (masquerade, gladiator, and winged). I sometimes buy the mats I need if I don’t have it, but I still make a profit as I’m not matching highest buyer which is always a bad idea. The idea is to sell half way between lowest seller and highest buyer. I’m always making my investment or better.

Someone is using this strat on Berserker’s items and losing their shirt. You might want to re-evaluate your strategy.
Buy orders on armor as far as I’m concerned are low ball offers and should only be considered if they are close to equilibrium and the market is very liquid.

Halfway between? Oh man you could be getting so much more for those. They were selling fine at 50s each, and then this strategy ruined it. Someone would be afraid it wouldn’t sell so they’d post it at 30s. And then it would get undercut from there. It results in all sellers getting less.
And then a new one would come and see 30 and think “I’d better go halfway between there and the 10s buy order price”, and then 20s becomes the new undercut price. Telling your worries to shush and keeping it at 50s means profits can still be had for everyone, without the price permanently being nerfed.
Yellow market will not be trashed, yellows still = ectos and those are needed for even legendaries, also I wouldn’t be suprised if it takes 250+ ectos to make a precursor.
